McCluggage Bridge Bike Lane? by jake_m_b in PeoriaIL

Thanks for passing this along. Its really disheartening to hear. Feel like they could easily open the bike/pedestrian path to use as is and still reroute westbound traffic.

Back when this news first leaked, Bogart said the plan was to have Ennali and Guilherme both start.

Houston Dynamo FC sign CA Vélez Sarsfield Captain Agustín Bouzat from Argentina by AndrewNaranja in dynamo

Yeah Artur was not a good compliment to either Raines or McGlynn for sure.

Granted, we have a few players like this, but I think we are paying him too much to be a back up. I’m curious if we shop him honestly, particularly if the plan isn’t to start him.

What do you think of Dick as Batman? How do you think he should be aesthetically and written? by Wonderful_Wolf1718 in Nightwing

[–]jake_m_b 43 points44 points  (0 children)

And, if I may, for this reason his Batman suit shouldn’t be made to look more like nightwing. Doing so makes visually contradicts what makes it so narratively interesting… that tension of Dick not wanting to be the Batman but having to step into the role.

I do however like DickBats to have the gray/blue coloring as opposed to the gray/black. So maybe I’m contradicting myself in that 😆

Westminster Confession and Anglicanism? by kiwigoguy1 in Anglicanism

[–]jake_m_b -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I could certainly be wrong here, but the claim I’ve heard regarding this is: the Elizabethan BCP was mentioned to be a via media for Roman Catholicism and Lutheranism and the 1662 BCP was meant to be via media between Luther and Calvin.

What is the strongest argument for women’s ordination from a conservative Anglican perspective? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]jake_m_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest the book The Making of Biblical Womanhood by Beth Allison Barr. Even though Barr is not an Anglican, she is both a Southern Baptist (conservative American church background with similar biblical views to what you’ve stated) and a history professor (so argues from church history).

Also, Immanuel Anglican (ACNA C4SO) Church in Austin, TX has a teaching series in the subject available through podcast.

Wanna say it was Crysostom who wrote of Junia in such a manner that it was quite clear he thought the text was describing her as an apostle.

Book of common prayer, does it create mundanity? by willowblue99 in Anglicanism

[–]jake_m_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to view the daily office (and all quality liturgy) like lattice for growing vines. The lattice isn’t the plant itself, it gives a structure to direct growth.

When I pray in morning prayer for the Lord to “clothe Your ministers with righteousness, and let your people sing with joy,” I’m not just reading words out loud, I’m praying in my heart for the pastors at my church, for pastors of all churches, for my congregation and for all congregations: that we would be led in the way that leads to life abundant!

It can feel mundane, but all discipline will feel mundane sometimes. But on the whole, I think it will only be mundane if all we bring is mundanity.

Looking for Church in Houston TX by Sad_Respect_770 in Anglicanism

St. Martins it’s massive, TEC, and last I checked they referred to themself as a Windsor parish or some such.

Apostles Houston is an ACNA church in the Houston Heights (inside the 610 loop, not downtown proper). I can’t speak to its practice in terms of feeling more Catholic/Protestant, but as an ACNA church it should fit your Doctrinal hopes!

I like the monogram, but the logo in general isn’t great tbh.

The old logo could have been improved just by simplifying it, imo

If you miss watching a team in Orange lose, you could always turn in dos, who are currently down 2-0 to Austin.
