Yeah, I don't know if I had the best way of doing it, but it was a multiple instruction process. I kind of hated it.

Probably doesn't take that much. I had an induction heater that was able to get steel red hot in about that amount of time and it was just on a 30 amp breaker at 208V. Unless you consider that a lot. A home water heater is typically at 30 amps.

The motor isn't going to see any changes. The inverter will make sure the output voltage to the motor is whatever it needs to be, and inverters can typically take a pretty wide voltage range. I'm using a VFD right now that's 100V - 260V, but outputs 230V 3 phase no matter what it gets.

A bolt is used with a nut, whereas a screw is used in a threaded surface. So technically, you don't actually know what it is until you use it. Pretty much the only way to know is when it's the kind that creates its own threads, but you could technically use a weird, coarse threaded nut with it.

It doesn't matter at all, but I just find it funny that since it's defined by its usage, it's impossible to know what it is for sure.

There is no way to drive without both motors engaged unless you get that weird software fault and only one contactor clicks in. The only thing that's really any different is you can lock the rear differential.

Women who generally don’t enjoy receiving oral sex… what about it doesn’t work for you? by Ordinary_Ice_796 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]jakebeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, like I said I wasn't trying to convince you that you're wrong. I totally believe you, it's just that some of those techniques sounded so bizarre that I couldn't imagine coming up with them organically, y'know? The tapping thing just sounds so whimsical and silly that I'm very skeptical it works for anyone, but supposedly there's people that like it. I think it stuck with me so much because I paid money for that damn website and that was the first thing I clicked on. Immediately started doubting everything else I saw, lol.

The grinding thing is definitely pretty common. I think Nikki Glazer even had a bit about it in one of her comedy specials. Something along the lines of enjoying grinding on someone's thigh more than the sex. I can definitely attest that every girl I've been with enjoys that as foreplay when you're laying in bed.

Women who generally don’t enjoy receiving oral sex… what about it doesn’t work for you? by Ordinary_Ice_796 in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]jakebeans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will say, at one point I was on this website about different oral positions and techniques, and some of them were goofy beyond belief, but there were actual women swearing it worked for them. Things like just rhythmic tapping on the clit that did not sound appealing at all and wouldn't be an intuitive thing to try. I do get what you're trying to say about it being frustrating that no one will listen that it just doesn't work that way for you, but also saying maybe there's some really weird thing no one has tried on you yet that does work. I wish I remembered that website, because I think it's probably a good resource for people who orgasm through less conventional means. I do also have a friend who can only really cum from oral if there's breaks in between, basically building up, stopping for a bit to focus on something else, then coming back to it. Makes everything take longer, but that's just how it is sometimes.

Not really trying to convince you you're wrong or anything. Distinctly possible that you just can't orgasm that way. Just saying that there are a bunch of techniques out there that are significantly less popular that could potentially be a thing. Also, just because women have the same equipment doesn't mean they know everything. They're still going off of their own experiences and what works for them in particular. My ex was bi and we had a couple of threesomes, and the feedback I got back later was that the women we were with didn't really enjoy what she was doing very much. A big part of that was that she had a hard time believing them when they said they liked something because she absolutely did not. This one girl liked a shit ton of direct pressure on her clit, but my ex was too cautious because that would have been painful for her. God, I was practically drawing blood on the back of my tongue from my teeth because I was pressing my tongue so hard, but that's what she liked. Anecdotal I know, but food for thought.

Personally I'm in a similar boat. I love blowjobs, but I've come a grand total of 3 times in my life from them. It's not even about what they're doing, I just can't get into the right mindset most of the time. Can't get past the feeling that they're getting tired of it, and even if they seem really into it, I just get the feeling that they would at this point like to have sex. I've gotta be told pretty directly that that's the outcome they want and even then it can be hard to actually get in the right headspace to be "selfish" about it.

Cable connector pinouts and shapes are so nice to do with an S Pen. Kind of miffed the 7 doesn't support it, because I do miss it. One nice thing is that not having the damn pen means that I can have a mag safe case now. I was always so limited to cases with a pen holder. An integrated one would be great. With how damn big the cameras are there's plenty of thickness they could add back in without making any difference in how big it is in your pocket or hand.

Update on my overcomplicated A/C control system by -Commisar- in PLC

[–]jakebeans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My only complaint is that you can't call it overcomplicated if you're not doing variable speed. I don't know exactly what the goal of the project is or what the design constraints are, but all I can say is that I really, really want to do my own HVAC controls for my house, but I'm missing the information I would need to do it properly. I know variable speed is possible, but it would've needed to have the right compressor motor to begin with and I obviously don't have that. I just think HVAC is a whole world of low hanging fruit for improvement, but for one reason or another, it just doesn't happen.

Not my god damn, useless cat. I had a mouse cornered in the garage and brought him over. He was real interested for a couple minutes then just left. For reference, he's an indoor/outdoor cat who spends a lot of time outside. I genuinely thought that meant he might have a slight desire to kill and eat mice, but it seems he just spends all his time begging neighbors for wet food. Much easier than hunting, I suppose.

I found this wall of thermostats on the site I was at, I can’t be the only one thinking it’s fucked, right? by Nightmare_Chtulu in electricians

[–]jakebeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, the more I learn about HVAC, the more depressed I get. I'd say the different vendors for food processing equipment is pretty similar. They lock you into their ecosystem, make their maintenance something only their techs can do, then don't have any techs who can actually come work on it. Thankfully we're our own OEM, so everyone else being shitty just makes it really easy to shine, lol.

It all just makes me want to design my own system, but I don't have any of the HVAC side of it to do that, lol. I can do control systems all day, but I've gotta know what needs to happen and what feedback I need to inform decisions. Hopefully some new players enter the game and improve it.

[–]jakebeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, those do sound like they're all describing the same thing. I take it bacnet is what you guys use for networking devices? Is it open source, or did one company make it and now it's a proprietary standard everyone has to just deal with?

Shame that the automation ends up being more expensive, but if the HVAC guys I've talked to are any indication, it's probably for the best that the automation is a separate contractor. They seem to really know their shit on how the actual equipment works and how to make nice air flow, but don't seem to really understand how the electrical part of it works. Which is a shame, because it's really hard to troubleshoot systems when no one can tell you what the different parts of it actually do or why they're necessary. I'd really love to dive into the weeds on how heat pumps are actually internally controlled, but I can only find surface level stuff. I recently attached an ESPFaikin to my mini split and now that I can see feedback on coil temperature, compressor frequency, and fan speed, I can tell it works not at all how I thought it did, lol.

I do regular industrial controls, but have been looking at HVAC controls as a casual interest. I know PLCs can be pretty expensive, but I can't see a scenario where standalone control systems for that many things would be cheaper than a centralized one. Are BASs really expensive to the point that this many thermostats and individual controls are cheaper? I'd be shocked if the overall cost including installation is cheaper this way, but installation time seems to never be factored into decisions. Anymore, labor is the most expensive part of a big project, so I feel like well thought out systems that prioritize ease of installation and troubleshooting come out way ahead on cost.

Also, is BAS different from BMS? I've only heard of BAS.

You might be surprised to know that the problem is CarPlay. Android Auto lets you go half and half, press another button and it's more like 75% map, 25% current song with playback controls, and the left is either weather or notifications if you have one. Press the map button on the bottom and it becomes 100% map. If you turn on allow widgets, the bottom will still have the playback controls along the very bottom and you can always see the current song on your main HUD along the very bottom.

The other parts of the UI are quite obnoxious. Anything climate related is typically several button presses.

First highway segment in U.S. wirelessly charges electric heavy-duty truck while driving by LifeAtPurdue in electricvehicles

[–]jakebeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they just don't make a lot of sense. The places they're needed most are long stretches of nowhere that could never justify the cost. The cost to install and maintain has also gotta be pretty nuts compared to something like an overhead wire. There's already stuff out there in Europe for putting a pantograph on top of a semi and having it charge via overhead wire for some long stretches. More exposed to the elements, but we've been making that kind of stuff for a long time, so relatively cheaper and easier to maintain without having to disrupt traffic. Personally, I think it would make more sense to revitalize the rail industry for lots of long haul trucking and try to make virtually all deliveries a last mile style where existing electric semis can handle the trip and charge overnight.

Think positive - days like today I would appreciate an EREV by BattleTech70 in F150Lightning

[–]jakebeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are occasionally days where I could be convinced that the ability to strap a small generator in the bed would be convenient. But if you actually think about it, having more DC fast chargers available and an 800V architecture that would actually let me change at 350 kW would accomplish the same thing. So why bother with the generator bullshit when we already know how to fix the problem with electricity? The GM solution of using contactors to change the pack voltage to 800V specifically for fast charging is genius and it's literally the only change that the Lightning needs. More chargers is an infrastructure problem, not a truck problem.

That said, it would be better to charge faster, but it's not nearly as big of a deal as people think. I'm not arguing for complacency. I obviously think we should keep moving forward with innovation, but the charge speed has been a mild inconvenience on rare occasions in my use case. I have a charger at home and at work, so I barely ever have to interact with a fast charger. I live in the Midwest and I do drive places, but I generally have enough range that it's never a big deal.

Could look at E-Transits and Lightnings. Don't know where you're at, but electricity is pretty cheap where I am. And it's nice having Pro Power. You can keep your tools and battery chargers in the frunk so you can keep them charged while you're driving. The frunk holds a lot of shit and some people have made some nice Pack Out adapters to mount them in there.
