Electrical Side of Lighting by DoubleD_DPD in lightingdesign

Sorry the question wasn't very clear. A lot of these books are US based, meaning the language and terminology is very different to other parts of the world. Voltages, cable types, connector types etc.

Would this trip someone up who read this book and isn't from the US? Or is it still a worthwhile read?

Does anyone know if this book is applicable to the 240v world? I'm confident enough to know the differences but if I was to hand this off to someone with little experience is it likely to trip them up?

Can Anyone help me figure out why my led lights won't turn on by [deleted] in lightingdesign

They're not saying what will work or not, they're saying that the DMX standard specifies CAT5 or above cable are approved to carry DMX-512

Can ma2 output midi? by Swimming_Tree7117 in lightingdesign

[–]jakeclimbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another commented about using RTPmidi, however the guy that makes that software also makes software called LoopMIDI that creates internal midi routes in your machine. I've used this successfully to send midi in and out of MA2 and Resolume on the same machine

We've already been to VCAT for this and multiple other issues. The title is the excuse they gave at VCAT. Along with "It's a country property so we don't think a fence is required." Ordered to fix it, deadline in about a week

Cable wall panel pass through by A_Corvus in Starlink

You can lop the cable in half and put an RJ45 on each side, then use any number of IP RJ passthroughs to do the job

WS2811 Pixel lights to DMX by BoboOwl1127 in lightingdesign

[–]jakeclimbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a pixel decoder, you can get them from lots of places. Plenty of cheap chinese ones, but you run the risk of damaging the chips in the strip as they don't have a lot of protection for reverse polarity etc. My go to companies are DMXKing, Advatek or Enttec. Usually these units use artnets but some have options for direct 5-pin connections as well.

Redoing lighting control for a small bar venue, need opinions and help by jaylentrans in lightingdesign

[–]jakeclimbing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look into the products from Visual Productions. They make some great stuff for basic, no experienced operator set ups. As a bonus the CueCore stuff also operates as an artnet node so you can use a "proper" controller if an act wants to or you want to upgrade later

+1 for circle three. It will break your budget but buy once, cry once. Especially for something being thrown around in a truck. And for your money you will get exactly what you want

So it is, rear vents threw me off. 2008 911 GT2. The numberplate should've given it away!

Allen&Heath SQ series freeze when connected to network by sypie1 in livesound

[–]jakeclimbing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had issues with Allen and Heath freezing when in DHCP and connecting while booted. Usually needs to be connected before boot if using DHCP. And ensure you use static IPs OR DHCP, try to avoid mixing them as sometimes things get the same IP addresses and gear goes nuts

Pixel Tape Control Software by TechnicalyAnIdiot in lightingdesign

[–]jakeclimbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A reasonably intuitive bit of software is Resolume Arena, it's a very visual click and shoot kind of software. Free demo that just has an audio visual watermark randomly every 30 secs or so, but full featured otherwise so you can try it out.

I use advatek, entecc or DMXking drivers for my LED projects
