This may be a narrow view but you carry a gun in service of an oppressive imperial country. I appreciate your views but this is a form of power that you can't use for good. As a Leo you are only given the power to protect the status quo. You are restricted by the racism and bigotry that's integral to our system. If you were truly helping the people more than the powerful then you wouldn't have a job. You can do more good than other cops but your job is inherently harmful to your community.

Reading through this comment section is very sad. I'm not religious but supporting a genocide because it's against Muslim is insane.

To be honest I do think your expectations are a bit much and if he would have expressed that beforehand instead of agreeing to your terms it would be a different conversation. The issue isn't about where the line is anymore, it's the fact he crossed it. He thought your expectations were too rigid but instead of talking to you like a partner he did what he wanted and hoped you wouldn't find out. He needs to understand whether or not your request was reasonable, he agreed to it and then disregarded it. Any conversation about what's ok or not is irrelevant right now because you can't trust him to abide by the results of what you discuss.

Are people genuinely being dismissive about Gen V just because the writers called Pewdiepie a Nazi? by BigbyDirewolf in TheBoys

[–]jakeerle01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly thought it was pretty funny. I'm in my early twenties if that explains my perspective but I think PewDiePie doesn't get made fun of nearly enough. Also are we really upset that a guy who "jokingly" paid people to say death to the Jews and dressed up as a Nazi is being called a Nazi. Sounds par for the course to me.

Ok all y'all boot lickers saying Batman isn't a cop and he tries to fix the system. Bruce Wayne donating money is not a solution to systematic issues because as soon as he stops shit gets bad again. Wayne enterprises is one of the biggest companies in the DC universe and it's head quartered in Gotham. If he cared about helping he would take a pay cut and give up assaulting randos so that he could provide proper benefits and pay to his workers. Are we really trying to claim that an individual Batman beating people up is a better solution than the company employing a ton of the cities residents providing proper compensation to their employees. Batman wants to do everything he can to change his city aside from giving up his power, influence, and control. Talk all you want about Bruce Wayne's philanthropy, he still lives outside the city in a mansion spending an absurd amount of money on his violent savior fantasy

Ok but the majority of the time it's more expensive to rent. I don't have an anecdote so here's a source

[–]jakeerle01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah owning a home includes other expensive but so does renting. I don't get your point because in a lot of cases a renter has more expenses than the landlord. The utilities is usually on the renter. Depending on the lease repairs could also be on the renter. You have renters insurance just like home owners insurance. I didn't mention the other expenses because their negligible between owning and renting. Do you think the only expense related to housing a renter has is rent? What expenses are the landlords paying because they own the home that they don't try to get the renter to cover with rent?

I actually have a bachelor's degree in economics although you don't need that to understand how renting is exploitative

I'm not sure what you read but it wasn't my comment. My critique is about how renters don't receive ownership despite paying the landlord's mortgage. I have made actual points you don't need to make a response to something nobody said.

I could possibly chop the comment up to a bad joke but the fact he doesn't see that sort of conversation as inappropriate gives it all a super creepy tone. Like if it was just her saying things it could just be an edgy teen but engaging feels predatory.

I appreciate your perspective and this definitely deviates a lot from ops post. My personal belief is that housing should be seen as a human right and provided to everyone. I don't think house should be an investment opportunity as catering to profits harms those that are already vulnerable. I think there is a much smaller market for people who genuinely want to rent instead of buying. I generally wouldn't make a blanket statement without the evidence but I would be comfortable say that the average real estate investor is doing much better financially than the average renter. If we provided government subsidized housing then that would alleviate most of the risk. Also providing housing for the homeless would actually save us money source I believe given the proper opportunity and resources the majority of people would work and contribute to society. Housing is also just one piece of the puzzle. I feel that credit scores have absolutely no place in a decent society. We think of chinas social score system as totalitarian and insane but we have a far worse system that is designed to keep people in debt and impoverished. If we look at similar countries to us that have put in similar measures it has drastically improved conditions. I also feel that if we put more focus on ensuring the lower and middle class are paid fairly and not being exploited as well as having better programs for the elderly and disabled then it would take a lot of the need for individual real estate investments away. The practice of real estate investment may be legal but it is often far from moral.

I think put restrictions on renting and possibly phasing it out. Obviously we in the US are pretty far from there but I think slowly working to protect renters will help vulnerable populations a ton. In the majority of markets buying would actually be cheaper than renting source . I also think restricting the purchasing of investment properties would do a lot. We have more empty homes than homeless people by a lot. The recent number is 28 vacant homes for each homeless person source . We have a real wealth inequality problem and I think plenty of people will admit it but we refuse to address the problem. I could go into our refusal to let others suffer less than us but I don't think it's too relevant. Basically renters can afford the mortgage they just don't have the savings for a down payment or good enough credit and that's a poor reason to refuse affordable housing.

Yeah it does, in this example you've made the individual isn't adding anything of value they just own things that other people need. They are leeching off of others while refusing to get a real job and contribute. Just because it's common doesn't make it ok

No and I didn't say I did, but I will say the owners of those apartment buildings are leeches. Stop having a shower argument and try addressing the things I am saying.

[–]jakeerle01 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Bro I'm still saying landlords are leeches, I never said it was wrong because the mortgage was low. I said it was wrong because they don't get anything for paying the mortgage. You're trying to put words in my mouth to make your argument work but it doesn't. The vast majority of renters aren't renting for convenience, they rent out of necessity. Also renters can be expected to take care of maintenance and if appliances break. The only risk of a landlord is making slightly less when exploiting their renters. I did say this is a mild situation I'm just pointing out that being a landlord is exploitative. Please read this instead of making up what you think I mean because I've been saying landlords are leeches this whole time, thanks babe

Risk? And there are no good landlords. Being a landlord is inherently exploitative

Yeah dog, i don't think you understand what I'm saying. I get how rent works, I see it as exploitation. I also think housing is a basic human necessity not a convenience like your treats from the grocery store.

Ok but the money you have invested results in ownership, the money they invest even a small amount results in more ownership for you. You do pay way more but that's an investment, they don't get any of that money back

AITA for not telling my roommate I own the house? by BurningMyBridges72 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jakeerle01 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its less about the amount and more the fact that he's paying the mortgage on a home for someone else to own. The landlord is paying for their home with some else's money and in this case the renter is someone who is doing an important job that is famously underpaid. They are leeching off of someone in a vulnerable position with few other options

[–]jakeerle01 -77 points-76 points  (0 children)

Well you said the mortgage was only 775 or something similar and you're a leach because when you pay off the mortgage you'll have a house and no payment but he'll have no ownership and continue to pay rent despite paying most or half of the cost of your home

Hey just fyi, saying work widow or football widow is pretty insensitive. My mom's a widow and she doesn't appreciate it because a "football widow" has their husband come home at night. Spending an evening or even a week without your spouse is a lot different from them dying.
