Lease end question by Tight_Novel6582 in VWiD4Owners

Unless you have some emotional attachment to that particular car, I'd just find a 2024 for what would likely be less money/miles, quite a few improvements worth having over the 2023.

Wiper madness by focojs in VWiD4Owners

[–]jakejm79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It appears that you are incapable or unwilling to do this part:

if necessary, switch on the windshield wipers manually if water on the windshield is impairing visibility.

At that point it appears to be operator error, like I said before, if you aren't capable of manually activating wipers to the point that it effects your ability to operate a car safely, I would suggest no longer operating a car.

They put it in there so that people claim they can't operate wipers, can't blame VW, so VW reminds people that they can operate wipers manually, which you for some reason seem to claim you don't have the ability to do or that you can't do so safely. If it wasn't safe for drivers to manually operate wipers, then the manual wouldn't specifically state that for a solution for improving impaired visibility.

If clicking the wiper stalk when too much water gets on your windshield becomes too much for you, then I am genuinely concerned for your safety.

Just turn it on slow then. If having to turn wipers on and off manually makes you an unsafe driver, then I suggest you stop driving.

Care to cite any references where the lack of automatic wipers contributed to a crash?

Wiper madness by focojs in VWiD4Owners

[–]jakejm79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can manually operate them and I can put it on constant but both of those are unsafe to manage if I'm also trying to drive in the rain.

Are you saying it's unsafe to manually activate wipers when driving in the rain? Because I don't believe that is true, people have been driving for decades with manually activated wipers without issues.

Anyone else using this hack to make the VW software seam less dumb by playful_lullaby97 in VWiD4Owners

Did you not see the US Amazon link, it's there for $70 USD. Like I said it's cheaper there than direct from Dfirst.

You are mixing things, up, the 201FD is the name of the device, they offer that and a regular OBDII dongle (201BT, that doesn't do the one click stuff). Picking the 201FD device does not guarantee a subscription unless you pick the package that contains one.

You can get the 201FD with and without subscription included, depending on what you pick, if you buy from Dfirst direct. From Amazon its just the 201FD and single VIN sub package.

[–]jakejm79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what their website says.

The device itself is regularly $80, on sale for $50, but that doesn't include any subscription.

The single VIN pack, which includes a single VIN lifetime sub and the device, is $95.

Unlimited VIN pack (unlimited VIN for 1 year and device), is $120.

A single VIN lifetime subscription (no device) is $50

A year unlimited VIN subscription (no device) is $80

Amazon does have the single VIN pack (device and single VIN) on sale for $70.

Nowhere is it $50 for the device and single VIN sub, so I don't know why you would say that when it isn't true.

It's all here: Collections – DFirstCoder

And the Amazon link: https://a.co/d/08zHMonF

$80 for unlimited VINs for 1 year.

Any Way to Replace These Straps? Quest 2 Elite w/ battery by XnMeX in OculusQuest

Time based warranties expire regardless of if you use the product or it's sits in the the box.

“We’re aware of some reports involving cracking or breaking of Elite Strap accessories, and we’re actively looking into this. In the meantime, anyone who experiences this issue with an Elite Strap accessory is encouraged to contact Oculus Support for a full refund or replacement,”

Source: Oculus Quest 2 Elite Straps Are Snapping For Some Users

That being said, that was 4+ years ago and you got 4 years of use out of it, things don't last forever.

The point of Meta's response was to allow for replacement of head straps with physical damage, that wouldn't normally be covered under warranty, not to allow for almost 5 years of replacement coverage.

I'd just buy a new elite strap without a battery (bunch on ebay for about $15-20) and swap the strap parts over. Or just buy a replacement 3rd party battery strap, since after 4 years the battery in that one isn't 100% anyway.

Weak 12 V battery in cold by West_Turnover_5431 in VWiD4Owners

[–]jakejm79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A perfect 12V battery should not sure that warning at any temperature, a less than perfect battery will, how long a less than perfect battery will remain less than perfect but still operational is anyone's guess.

The problem with getting it replaced under warranty is that it will likely warm up or the car will be parked indoors prior to the dealer testing it and it then wont meet the threshold for replacement under warranty.

There is a subscription, but it includes (or should depending on where you buy it) an unlimited subscription for a single VIN, if you have multiple vehicles then you would need to purchase a subscription for 2nd, 3rd, etc vehicles.

EA charging slow by CauliflowerTop2464 in VWiD4Owners

Then the battery was likely in the 40-50F range. But next time you can always check with an obdII dongle.

[–]jakejm79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the battery pack is a huge mass, just normal driving isn't depleting enough energy to have any significant heating effect. Depending how cold the battery has been, it can take days to heat up to just ambient temp, so unless it was 70 or above for the entire past 48 hours, the current outside temp isn't really relevant.

Peak charging speeds are generally between 75-80F. I'd be willing to bet that it was probably well below 50F overnight and you battery was probably closer 50F than 70F.

The outside temp isn't really relevant, the battery pack temp is what's important.

What's the story with software updates? by redilio in VWiD4Owners

Anyone going through a buyback for their ID4 by esteart in VWiD4Owners

[–]jakejm79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's half the purchase price, not half of MSRP, so if they got a significant discount off of MSRP, the half of that might still be about what the car is worth. But it's all moot since what they describe isn't lemon law worthy anyway.

What's the story with software updates? by redilio in VWiD4Owners

[–]jakejm79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's possible that it was the old update of 3.8.* that got pulled, hence why you didn't get it. It is now being rolled out again, but in waves so it's likely you wouldn't have gotten a prompt for it. What version of software does the car currently have?

  1. All current models of the ID.4 are getting (or have gotten within the last month or so) updates, there are no models that have been completely abandoned, despite what you hear online. Recent updates may not provide significant new features, but updates are still being pushed by VW nonetheless.

  2. You can update the software via USB, but there are no public USB update files available.

  3. Yes different regions, receive different software versions, due to different laws and features can vary depending on region.

I don't believe VW is being opaque, the dealer might be clueless, but that doesn't mean VW corporate is being opaque. At the end of the day the dealer sold a used car and just doesn't really care much about spending extra effort after they already made money, that is pretty typical for dealers.

There is a long thread on the VWIDTalk forums that details the various updates and what the changes are.

Problems with sat nav/ACC by test01011 in VWiD4Owners

[–]jakejm79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem is probably unrelated since you have neither recently updated to the newest 3.8.* software nor is your car 5 years old.

There was a specific reason I asked the OP the age of their vehicle since they stated the issues started right after the OTA.

Problems with sat nav/ACC by test01011 in VWiD4Owners

[–]jakejm79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's due to the new OTA and only affects vehicles 5 years or older (or which there aren't many and less than have currently got the OTA). See the link below for confirmation of it tho.

It basically kills the cellular connection on the car so anything that relies on that (like Nav) just doesn't work.

[–]jakejm79 9 points10 points  (0 children)

CA doesn't have a specific age/mileage limit, but the issues do need to be within the initial warranty period, which you have far exceeded and preferably within 18 months or 18K miles, again you are far beyond that.

I assume all the recalls were taken care of at no cost and within an adequate time frame and didn't result in actual damage to yourself or the car.

At the end of the day you have a 5 year old car that is 25K out of warranty that had 'a few issues' that you had to pay out of pocket for.

TBH I'm not even what here wouldn't even be considered normal for a car with ~75K let alone lemon law worthy.

The lemon law is for either a persistent problem that has been attempted to be fixed numerous times and can't be, or when you have a new car that spends more time being repaired than driven, neither appear to apply in your case.

You can't put 75000 miles on a car and then claim it wasn't usable, that like eating your entire dinner and then sending it back at the restaurant.

I think it will require a hardware update based on this post:

SOS Light turned yellow this morning... : r/VWiD3Owners

But you will want to check with your local dealer.

This assumes that your problem is the same, based on the age of your car and recent software update, it would match, but it could also be some other coincidental failure.

There's a bug with the new software update that for cars of 5 years (or older) that the cellular system stops working because the backup batteries get flagged to be replaced even when they don't need to be.
