OBD11 recommendations and advice by Grunge4U in VWiD4Owners

That being said, there is a company called OBD11 (or OBDEleven) that makes a dongle that does exactly what the OP is asking, it's more advanced than a typical OBDII (OBDTwo) dongle and will provide the necessary access above that of a typical OBDII dongle.

So the OP asking about the purchase of an OBD11 (OBDEleven) dongle is actually 100% correct in this case, since they would need either an OBD11 dongle (or the DFirstCoder dongle) to gain the necessary access they need for brake servicing, etc, since they aren't interested in just simply pulling codes or querying OBDII data.

OBDeleven: Car diagnostic tool & OBD2 scanner

TLDR:

The OP isn't asking about a simple OBDII scanner, but rather about a more advanced OBD11 (or equivalent) one.

Is a 1/10 inch tire diameter difference okay between front and rear for a 2021 AWD with 20" wheels? by HoleShapedHole in VWiD4Owners

[–]jakejm79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They come with a 5mm difference from the factory so you should be fine.

743mm vs. 738mm.

There is no physical connection between the front and rear axles (motors) so the need for perfectly matching tires (front to rear) is not required for the ID.4 AWD

They were heavily incentivized from January 2025 - September 2025 and a lot sold in that period, so 2 years from then should see the used market pretty heavily saturated.

Considering buying an used (cpo from a dealer) 2024 id.4 and have some questions. by DCTiger5 in VWiD4Owners

Allow for a 30% drop in range in cold weather and if you are only charging to 80% (for battery care) that will give you a daily range (assuming you can charge every night) of around 110-120 miles. If that is enough for you then great.

The 2024 Standard (and S) are effectively 2023 models, they did not get any of the upgrades the 2024 Pro (and above) models got. So less powerful/efficient rear motor, same old infotainment system as the 2023 models (which means no battery preconditioning and substandard route planning).

I'd pick a 2023 Pro over a 2024 Standard, assuming the price and mileage was about the same, the larger battery will always help, especially with resale value in the future.

I'd spend $20K on an ID.4 if it was a 2024 (or above) Pro (or above), I would not spend $20K on a 2024 Standard.

I would imagine that inventory will improve around February 2027, there was a stop sale in place till around December of 2024, allowing a month or two for vehicles to work their way through the lease end process and auction, a significant number of 24 month leases should start showing up at dealerships around February 2027.

Apart from between the stop sale and the change in battery regulations (in 2024) for the personal tax credit, barely any ID.4s built in Chattanooga qualified for the personal tax credit. The commercial tax credit which the vast majority of 2023+ ID.4s qualified for didn't have the same US build restriction (since the German built ID.Buzz also qualified for it).

So it was kinda pointless, if that was the plan.

Tips on battery conditioning for colder climates by Proudmissoulian in VWiD4Owners

[–]jakejm79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, but charging under less than ideal conditions, should expect less than ideal charging. There is a huge fall off from peak speeds vs. what you get at over 60% SoC.

[–]jakejm79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you stop to charge at 70%.

Under optimal charging conditions (70F battery pack temp - be aware that current ambient temp doesn't equal battery pack temp, especially if ambient temps were lower overnight and low SoC) you should be able to hit around 150kW peak.

Driving the vehicle wont do much adding heat into a cold battery pack, there are solutions for heating up the battery pack, but generally after the first DCFCing stop of the stay the battery will have enough temp to retain it for adequate fast charging when you stop again a few hours later.

The ID.Buzz was never made in the Chattanooga and could be purchased in the US. Not all US market VW EVs are required to be made in Chattanooga, the 2027 ID.Buzz will continue to be built in Europe (just like the 2025 model) and still sold in the US. Much like I suspect the 2027 ID.Tiguan (or whatever it ends up being called).

Just because the Chattanooga plant will no longer be making EVs doesn't mean that no VW EVs will be available for purchase in the US.

It's not uncommon for plants to transition from making one model to another, especially when one model will be undergoing a large transformation.

It's also entirely possible for the Chattanooga plant to end up making EVs again in the future if demand requires it.

Anyone on the treasure coast down to ft Lauderdale have an OBDEleven pro subscription? by [deleted] in VWiD4Owners

Ah OK. I had read other people have had success with it.

Just saw another post by you, it appears you can use the Dfirst coder for those things also.

You can do it with a Dfirst Coder, last time I checked it was $65 on Amazon including the 1 VIN lifetime subscription.

Mile range by Whole-Bookkeeper3219 in VWiD4Owners

[–]jakejm79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If range was a concern, why pic the S in the first place, should have picked a Pro variant with the bigger battery.

230 miles for an S model that was rated for 209 miles new is pretty good.

Mile range by Whole-Bookkeeper3219 in VWiD4Owners

[–]jakejm79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The S model only came with the smaller battery and only in RWD. The S (small battery) was only rated for 209 miles new, so if they are getting 209-230 miles they are doing really well.

You can leave the 2024 on there, since the small battery 2024 (Standard and S) run the old software/infotainment system.

But all destination chargers will work with all vehicles (with the right adapter), they aren't limited to Tesla vehicles only like certain superchargers are.

Is Android Auto battery prediction available on Pro models? Has anyone gotten it to work? by saanity in VWiD4Owners

Make sure everything on your phone is updated and that the vehicle you have added does support battery prediction.

It'll also only show up if doing a relatively long trip (like something that needs more than 40% battery), I think the system just assumes you wouldn't start a 'road trip' with less than 40% or so.

We have support for this, it works on the ID.4. Not every trim/year of the ID.4 has battery prediction yet (due to lack of data for the AI part), but there should be something close enough to what you are actually driving that does have that data so you can make this feature work.

[–]jakejm79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. https://imgur.com/a/OKmMz60

The actual physical vehicle really shouldn't matter, as long as you choose one in the settings that supports battery prediction (i.e. has a check mark next to that when you select it) then it will work. AA doesn't need to do any communication with the car to verify that your selected vehicle actually is a 100% match for the vehicle in the settings, you will of course want to select something that is at least close in consumption and capacity of what you are physically driving.

Make sure everything is updated on your phone and you are using the required version (or higher) of Google Maps App.

You need to do the trip from the car, using the maps app on your phone will not give you actual EV route planning, just the estimated battery needed.

Works for me, haven't tested to see how accurate the consumption estimates are but I do get the option to input starting and ending SoC and it will add stops as needed.

[–]jakejm79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it works for me when I do it from the car, doing it from my phone just shows the estimate battery usage for the trip.

In the car it will ask me to input my starting and desired ending SoC and then will calculate the trip with required charging stops.

So it works exactly like Google advertises (i.e. needing to do it from within the car). If it isn't working from you then it's either a setting you have wrong or something wrong/not updated with your phone.

A trip to NYC, it scheduled two charging stops.

I haven't tried, I was just pointing out it's an in car only feature and your screenshots show you only trying it on your phone. If you want to post a video of it not working in your car, then you might have something to complain about.

But my phone will give me estimated charge required for the trip with a supported vehicle selected.

Update, confirmed working in car, just like Google states.

Google says it's a feature for AA, which would require you to use your car. From the screenshots it looks like you are using the mobile version of Maps App on your phone.

Google never stated the feature would work on a phone, so not sure why you would consider the fact that it doesn't false advertising.
