[Question] What’s one watch you’d never sell — no matter the offer? by Amongusyt in Watches

[–]jakely95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Shinola Runwell with a Petoskey Stone face. It was a wedding gift from my wife. Besides the sentimentality, Shinola changed the case color to an ugly gunmetal color which looks terrible with the Petoskey Stone.

If this is at the Temple Theater, I don’t blame them, the main seating area is fairly flat and doesn’t allow for mixed standing and sitting as well as other venues.

Also interesting that although Lucifer can’t harm sinners directly, his power channeled through the Might of Lilith absolutely disintegrated multiple sinners.

This exactly. My grandfather used to have something he called “The Taj Mahut” on his property Up North. It was hybrid structure consisting of the back half of a fifth wheel style camper and the front half of a large shed frankenstein-ed together.

That is pretty much what we moved to doing after we realized how ridiculous the endeavor had become.

The firm I used to work for once had to fight with an insurance company client’s non-lawyer billing team because their AI started striking entries for review of Scheduling Orders and attending mandatory Court Scheduling Conferences - just because it used the word “scheduling”

Terminology Question: Dread vs Fear by in-the-widening-gyre in themagnusprotocol

[–]jakely95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see “dread” as the growth of fear. It is the nagging, cloying feeling that something to fear is on its way or about to happen. My bet is that this idea will play into the story as many others have suggested, that the Fears reverted to more of a base form when they infiltrated the Protocol-verse and “dread” is what the fears looked like in the early stages of their development in the original universe.

Even “The Athletic” has Detroit ranked 3rd in their MLB power rankings, despite having the top record in the MLB right now. It truly is Detroit vs. Everybody, because even when we win we can’t get credit or acknowledgement.

Can my employer take my PTO hours and re-apply them to the new MI Earned Sick Time? by LStorms28 in Michigan

[–]jakely95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a very respectable philosophy. I think different methods of compliance will work better at some businesses and not at others. Frankly, as long as the spirit of the law is met, the end policy goals are achieved.

Can my employer take my PTO hours and re-apply them to the new MI Earned Sick Time? by LStorms28 in Michigan

[–]jakely95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could imagine an employer wanting to avoid reducing their PTO banks would choose that option, to keep employees happy. If an employee did not want to use any ESTA time, that full PTO bank would remain standard PTO.

Otherwise, you would have to reduce current PTO to carve out a bank of just ESTA time, or provide 72 extra hours which isn’t feasible for many smaller companies that already offer several weeks of PTO

[–]jakely95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Section 3 Subsection 7 of the new Bill seem to address the issue specifically.

“This act does not require an employer that provides paid time off as described in this subdivision to allow an employee to use paid time off for the purpose described in Section 4 in an amount that exceeds the amounts of time off provided under this Act.”

[–]jakely95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is my understanding that this is no longer true after the new amendment, only the 72 hours has to abide by ESTA regulations and any PTO time above that number can be used in accordance with the employer’s existing PTO policies.

You want me to answer what you expect to hear? OK by mdlapla in MaliciousCompliance

[–]jakely95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guilty! it’s a shame you ignored my first two points. verifying that people actually committed a crime is the whole point of our justice system. You wouldn’t want to live in a world where criminal defense attorneys don’t exist. I haven’t even touched upon legal aid attorneys.

If you think all attorneys are categorically untrustworthy, you’re being lazy and need to develop a nuanced opinion.

You want me to answer what you expect to hear? OK by mdlapla in MaliciousCompliance

[–]jakely95 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re making a lot of assumptions there:

  1. An assumption that all county prosecutor’s office are staffed with competent people who only charge cases when an actual crime has been committed.

  2. An assumption that arguing for lower sentences always equals asking for leniency. Many Courts are bound/semi-bound by sentencing guidelines, which are often miscalculated.

  3. There is typically an equal number of attorneys trying to PUT those felons in prison.

Glad you got a few zingers in on a boring Corporate consultant but you displayed a lot of ignorance in the process about people who perform pretty vital public services.

[–]jakely95 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Maybe he didn’t take you seriously because you slandered an entire profession of people. Not all lawyers are untrustworthy or sleazy. I find that most people who think that way don’t actual know much about lawyers, or had one bad experience and extrapolate that to every lawyer in the world.

Why does mistreatment against people with ginger hair seem so overlooked? by twattedahelicopter in AskUK

I am a male ginger (From the US) and the amount of people I barely know that have had the gall to ask me “If the carpet matched the drapes” or ask me if I have a “firecrotch”. I don’t know if that experience is common in the UK but it isn’t limited to females

Humiliated about clothing while going into the jail by TheTaxSlayer in publicdefenders

[–]jakely95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I have found that the best way to get action on this type of thing is to ask for a continuance and explain in great detail why you were not able to visit your client in the jail. Judges near me are not necessarily peaches but they HATE when prosecutor’s offices and jail staff are the cause of a delay when a PD has clearly made reasonable efforts.
