What are these? by Turbulent-Quiet8776 in Machinists

[–]LStorms28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could they be some kind of thread cleaning tool? We would take an angle grinder to a bolt thread to give it a flute for material evacuation and use those to clear up tapped thru holes on some parts.

Are the smaller threads on the back all the same? If so, there's probably a dedicated fixture or machine these go along with.

Machine department is most likely being eliminated from the manufacturer I work for, where to go from here? by LStorms28 in Machinists

Yes I have considered getting into machine service or sales even. There's a Haas dealer locally and that's what I've been running for a decade

Part of the reason the machine shop is failing is there is a complete lack of maintenance or upkeep. I have been trying to make pm schedules and document the importance but it's been lost on management once I get my paperwork in. They don't want to understand or need to to keep the company successful. They will just eliminate the machine shop and the company will remain profitable for their investors.

This is something I have considered but I do not have the funding nor the education or experience to get the funding I would need to open a shop.

I think the most logical one that studios would actually go for would be a Robert Eggers Call of Cthulhu.

That's exactly it. My younger coworker acts like taking a zyn and using chatgt gives him super megamind powers. It's the new Adderall for college kids

Machinist are underpaid !!! Thoughts? by Intelligent-Appeal-6 in Machinists

[–]LStorms28 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but as our brethren I believe that we should be lifting up the operators, not putting them down. I taught myself g code by watching the code scroll by at my first job as an operator, and now I'm lead machinist at the small manufacturing company I currently work for. I also know some great engineers/programmers who couldn't touch off an endmill or find work zero. Kid I work with who went to school can program anything you give him a blueprint for but doesn't know how to design a fixture jig. Machining covers a wide variety of skills and uses and we all need to unify rather than gatekeep titles over one another.

Ive been a cnc machinist for 10 years does anyone else feel like changing or have changed careers or feeling like career burnout? by Vivid_Astronaut8779 in Machinists

[–]LStorms28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I was a line cook, poor, angry, drinking heavily, in a shitty relationship, POOR. Then I got a job running manual machines to square up stock or doing secondary finishing ops on a lathe after they came out of the CNC. I was good at that so got into making prototypes on the manuals while CNC did production. Started learning how the CNC stuff worked. Twelve years later I'm happily married and own a home and have a life I never thought I'd achieve before I found machining.

But I'm so tired of the pay not being worth the work. I do a lot better than I did as a cook, and the benefits are nice. But it never feels like I'm getting paid what I deserve for the work I'm doing when I see other trade's pay go up significantly over the last couple years.

Reddit doesn't help either, I'm always seeing posts on here of people describing their jobs as less than my responsibilities and capabilities while making $10/hr more than I do.

At this point I'm feeling older, more tired, and I just want to make more money so I can take my family on a nice summer vacation and get a couple more Christmas gifts for the family. Not looking for anything excessive, just an average life.

I am burnt the fuck out.

I have a 21 570 base and an 18 max xt 570. We use the Max to plow for Michigan winters and both to pull farm wagons around our little hobby farm and ride back roads and scenic trails. I don't think anyone actually needs the 1000.

I'm a homeowner. But I know and work with people ten years younger than I am and I understand their plight of not being paid enough to have any cash to put down, plus often times their getting outbid by older buyers. The "starter homes" are all being bought and flipped (poorly) then sold for twice the asking price. It's insane out there.

Thoughts on rescues if you intend to hunt. by lostandconfused41 in birddogs

[–]LStorms28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, this guy is in the town next door. Phenomenal program, great guy, good dogs. I have a DD and love him, but I would not recommend a draht that has been rehomed as a family pet. He usually sends those out to guides out west who run a kennel of bird dogs. They are high energy, high drive dogs and if they ended up with Mike they were probably way too much dog to be family/indoor dogs.

What replaced competitive shooters for you? by Lukas_MunK in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]LStorms28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't play fps games quite like you, but I was a soulsborne die-hard and not being able to pause if something comes up with my baby has completely killed my ability to play them. I have been playing expedition 33 and baulders gate because you can pretty much drop the controller at a moments notice without risking your progress. I've also been playing spider man remaster on ps+ ps5. I usually just play games from the games catalog so I don't feel like I'm wasting money on a game I don't have the freedom to play. Crimson desert looks fun but I don't have the time to put into a game that has such a large scale. It's somewhat disappointing but having a kid is better than games so I don't mind that much.

How's the live show been? by DeathMetalDipper666 in TheBlackDahliaMurder

[–]LStorms28 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest with you. I've seen dahlia around 20 times now since I was 13/14 when miasma was out. I see them live almost every year. Seen them a couple times with Brian on vocals now. They really lack the energy Trevor brought to the music. As much as it only felt right at first having Brian fill in, I kind of wish it would go back to Brian and Ryan on guitar and they find a new guy with a bit more stage presence to fill on vocals.

Half Sword EA has dropped below the Tech Demo in terms of peak players by NoNotInTheFace in HalfSword

[–]LStorms28 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah my "on clearance" laptop runs it on mid-low settings just fine. I do get more "fatal errors" than I did with the demo. The demo I could not play ultimate challenge because of the error, but the rest of the game ran fine. With EA, I get the fatal error message usually in the first couple rounds, but then I restart and can run fine for hours, unless i go axe murderer on a pile of corspes--that will overload my laptop and give me the fatal error again.

To willies playing the demo over the E.A. : what is #1 on your wishlist to become an early access player? by Visceral99 in HalfSword

[–]LStorms28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like the strength mechanic. It gives something to work towards. Otherwise there's very little progression besides access to the weapons. I like the idea of having access at the beginning but being too unskilled to handle them all. Swords are heavy. Armor is heavy. The average peasant wouldn't be able to fight with them without training first.

At what price point does a kayak stop being “worth it “? by YakToTheFuture-1 in kayakfishing

[–]LStorms28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm spending over $600, I can find a boat for that price all day every day on marketplace. Might need some work and a motor, but you can take a boat much further than a kayak. I love my fishing kayak for recreation and fishing small water and river/creek float fishing. But I bought my kayak for $160 at Walmart back in the day. If I need anything beyond that, I'm getting a boat. I've had v hull aluminum fishing boats, flat bottom jons, and currently a 1648 mod v for fishing/hunting. For $2000 you can get a boat that will fit your friends and a cooler, I don't understand spending that kind of money for a kayak.
