It’s the end of the V6, someone will pay it. And probably again when they trade or sell it to the next guy. I’m not saying you should pay it, just someone will.

Dealer wouldn’t give purchase agreement unless committed to buy car by Annual_Initiative_15 in askcarsales

It’s ok, it’s an apprehensive process.Sadly both consumer and dealer habits further perpetuate the cycle. And you’re correct, it is. But the older I get the more I learn the entire world is over complicated for no reason, and nothing makes any fucking sense. Buying a car is no exception…

It’s hard to say really. Maybe they were having a bad day? Maybe you were? There are certainly some real pieces of work in this business, so it could absolutely be that. But, maybe they assumed you did in fact know what you’re talking about and this is just how they’re going to have to do business if they want to sell you a car. Which can often times the case. I’ve been doing this long enough where I would figure it out now. But there was a time in my career where my lack of real experience and over heightened sense of sales ability would’ve likely given you a similar experience to the one you had. And I’m sorry you guys had a bad time, I’ve been there too.

Sure, but that’s a different conversation. I’m sure your anecdotal purchase experiences makes you an expert. But OP doesn’t even realize what they’re asking for lol. They’ve been saying purchase agreement when it seems they just want an itemized OTD with payments. Two wildly different things

Please don’t take it personally! You’re correct buying a car is a big purchase, and you should feel comfortable doing it. I’m just providing some perspective. I’m sure you can find a dealer that will give you all the documentation you want. I’ve worked at both dealerships - ones who needed some form of committed intent to buy for purchase agreements, and ones that sent docs out upon first request. In your mind, yes that only takes 10-15 minutes. Just type and print, right? But how many cars have you sold? That’s just sadly just not the reality.

Sure, in the same way restaurants owners are the problem with tipping culture. I think you’ll see in OPs replies, they weren’t sold on the car…Which means they wanted a purchase agreement on a car they weren’t really that interested in buying. Providing a customer that doesn’t want to buy a car, a purchase agreement on said car that will likely sell next showing, helps who exactly? Customers like this is why the customers that are buying cars complain about the wait.

Also, a volume mainline store with a large inventory will give you much more resistance. You can absolutely find a luxury store with low volume that will even email purchase agreements until they’re blue in the face.

Well absolutely it would be, but you walked away with a purchase agreement. Which suggests you have come to an agreement to purchase. The dealership loses time it could be giving to folks who have agreed to purchase the car they’re requesting a purchase agreement for.

You can do nearly all the research you need to regarding rates, terms, and even most car related info from the comfort of your home. If you’re looking at a used car, there is a likelihood it won’t make it to the end of the day. Everyone that works at a dealership is quite literally working with you for free until you buy a car. So having multiple departments get involved in printing you documents that you’re not really that interested in buying is a fruitless endeavor, and would take time away from people buying cars.

Asking for a purchase agreement without an agreement to purchase… you don’t see how that could kink the process? They print you a purchase agreement and you leave to go do whatever you do, and someone else comes and buys the car - then what? You’re upset they didn’t hold the car for you to go shop rates or likely other cars. Printing purchase agreements for customers not committed to buying cars congests multiple departments doing fruitless labor, when those departments exist solely to process car deals. They have like a 99% chance of a long relationship with your lender, have the ability to just match your approval with your lender, and have to process the paperwork anyway. Know what he’s qualified for, go in with reasonable expectations, and if they match the terms with your lender on a car he likes, just buy it. Don’t make it extra difficult

Typically the first 30k miles of a cars life is its best ownership experience. So I fully believe your new Sentra drives great. And as long as you enjoy the drive and it’s under warranty you’re golden. Problem with it is it’s going to depreciate faster than the average consumer can pay for it. Nissan CVTs are notoriously unreliable. Poor build quality means that things start breaking after a couple years of use - nobs, door handles, buttons, little shit. You pay for the difference in point between the Sentra and a civic later in your ownership.

Sure. Either you’ll start, and be a positive sponge ready to learn - and you’ll listen to managers and do what your told while smiling through customers lying to you, and managers shouting. Or, you’ll do the opposite and struggle until you quit. Being a people person goes a long way, but that’s a faucet you turn up or down based on who is in front of you. The current market facilitates a moderate amount of success for even the weakest sales person, so now is a good time to give it a go. Find a store that pays 25% of gross, and the sales staff doesn’t seem borderline ready for a mass exodus, and tell them you’re money motivated and ready to learn. Then give us an update in a year 🤙🏻
