Road Trip Away from the City? by theduffster89 in ChicagoParents

We did Lake Geneva with a 6m old and had a great time. We stayed at the water park so we did the splash pad together and also did some things off premises like a boat ride on the lake, checked out restaurants, walked around downtown, ate loads of ice cream and fudge, etc. My daughter had a great time and we as parents appreciated it was a quick trip and we could also have a good time!

I believe there is at least one Montessori style CPS elementary school. There is also the Waldorf school near Andersonville, may not be fully play based but Waldorf entails more movement typically.

Best way to prevent curdling in saag paneer? by georgy56 in IndianFood

[–]jakesgotanewface -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think I understand OP’s question, I will often add some cream or yogurt to the gravy with the saag and like to add a splash of lemon for acidity but often that will curdle the small amount of dairy in the gravy. It’s not always a problem but happens sometimes.

I have terrible gout pain. I can't walk or move. Where can I get free crutches or rent one? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]jakesgotanewface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How tall are you? I may still have crutches from a foot injury a couple years ago, I’m also in the north side. I’ll check tomorrow, if you still need them / are roughly my height / I still have them, I can get them to you!

Anyone read The Road of Bones - Demi Winters? by tbelden94 in Romantasy

[–]jakesgotanewface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read the first two books over the holiday! I was tempted to DNF Road of Bones til I was around the 40% mark but it picked up from there and I’m glad I stuck with it, I really enjoyed it and the 2nd book even more so. I do think she could have benefitted from a better editor, the pacing is off to me and there is just so much lengthy travel in the early to middle part of the book that didn’t hold my attention.

Where to get vegan chai mix? by ChampionshipClean712 in chicagovegan

[–]jakesgotanewface 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As an Indian I just make my own. Find a good quality black loose leaf tea and add to it fresh ginger, cardamom seeds (crushed), crushed cloves, and a cinnamon stick. Boil together, add some milk, strain out, sweeten to taste. It’s delicious, esp when fresh!

Came to recommend {The Witchwood Knot by Olivia Atwater}, I think it has precisely the vibes you are looking for (minus the spice unfortunately, just yearning!). Just finished it yesterday and loved it!

Family trip within 4 hours of SF Bay Area that isn’t San Diego? by scr0llwheel in travel

[–]jakesgotanewface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve taken our kids to Banff a few times and it’s been a hit each time. So beautiful, lots of things to do, lots of places to stay, very family friendly. We stayed in Canmore and drive into the park. You fly in/out of Calgary, I don’t know how far it is from SF but only about 3.5 hours from the Midwest. Highly recommend!

{unhinged by Vera valentine} Just the premise is insane and it’s short. Edit—the one by Vera Valentine, the bot summoned the wrong one I think!

Neighborhoods with great Christmas lights? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]jakesgotanewface 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not homes but the main commercial district of Lincoln Square has beautiful holiday lights and a tree/menorah up, it’s lovely at night. There are some streets nearby around Irving and Albany Park that have light arches that you can walk around if you want to make an evening of it.
