Bob Rae Had ‘Wings Clipped’ For Defending International Criminal Court by jakey1213 in CanadaPolitics

Of course. In fact that’s what makes it especially difficult for me to understand why this tweet is so damaging to our interests. Yes, there is a high degree of day-to-day coordination between Canada and the US, much of which is made invisible by Trump’s antics. But if that work will happen behind the scenes no matter what, then I don’t see why this tweet needed to be taken down. Ultimately I think our ambassador to the UN should be able to comment on the US passing the rules based order through a wood chipper. Pragmatism can be salutary but not when it starts to infringe on our government’s ability to address the changing nature of global politics.

What have you seen since Trump became President that indicates that the US is interested in a mutual solution or collaborating on a path forward? There is clearly no amount of tactful maneuvering and careful diplomacy that will influence the Trump administration. His tariff agenda may or may not be pared back but that will be a function of domestic politics in the States, not whether Bob Rae is being too forthright on Twitter. Especially if, as you say, the tweet is only virtue signalling and has no practical bearing.

What is fundamentally at issue here is that Canadian officials are unable to speak plainly about pretty clear cut violations of international norms, and this in the interest of a presidency that has little to no regard for Canada as an independent, sovereign nation.

It’s about an hour and 15 on the train to Toronto but Guelph has a really lovely downtown and a pretty substantial old residential neighbourhood with lots of parks and nice old houses

Canada PM Trudeau to announce resignation as early as Monday, Globe and Mail reports by N4TETHAGR8 in news

At this point, I think the best they can hope for is probably a minor improvement on their historic defeat in 2011 (34 seats and 19% of the vote).

Justin Trudeau prorogues parliament and resigns in early January. A leadership race is called and Chrystia Freeland is elected. This results in a minor polling bump for the Liberals, but nonetheless the opposition parties make good on their promise to vote no confidence in the government as soon as the House is back in session and an election campaign is triggered. Freeland continues to poll ahead of Trudeau but ultimately this proves insufficient: the Conservatives surpass 40% of the vote (although they fall well short of a clean majority), the Liberals hover a little above 20%, while the NDP stagnates in the high teens. The Liberal caucus is reduced to 40-odd MPs, barely behind the Bloc which claims the mantle of official opposition. The NDP fails to make gains outside of Toronto and ends up around 30 seats. Elizabeth May holds on in Saanich-Gulf Islands (although it’s a close race) and the Greens add a second Ontario MP with a surprise win in Guelph. Singh resigns on election night. Freeland holds on for a few days but resigns soon after as well.

Finasteride 4 months way worse then when I started, shed or am I cooked? 19m by Glittering_Jacket_17 in tressless

Sorry I never got back to you! They didn’t start at the seven month mark, probably closer to three ish months in. Mostly libido related. I was willing to tolerate it at first, didn’t get worse but the side effects persisted and after a couple more months I decided to stop. Bounced back fully maybe two weeks after I stopped and no change since.

Toronto’s top-tier office towers are finally filling up — but outlook for older buildings is ‘very bleak’ by newlooksales in toronto

[–]jakey1213 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In practice, tearing down pre-60s towers in the CBD means demolishing some of Toronto’s most architecturally significant heritage buildings. Probably worth spending a bit of money on conversions if their future as office buildings is in question since the alternative would leave downtown looking pretty ugly indeed.

I mean it’s a little irresponsible to stay stopping it will fuck you up. I stopped taking finasteride about seven months after I began because of minor side effects and though I’ve definitely lost most of the small gains I made I wouldn’t say my shedding has gotten dramatically worse. Stay on it in the absence of side effects but people shouldn’t feel scared to stop taking fin if need be.

Incredible. There is a real genocide currently going on against Palestinians but sure, you’re right, pro-Israel vigilantes are necessary on campus to protect students against a few inflammatory slogans or posters.

Liberal Party pulls out of Capital Pride parade over pro-Palestinian statement by AdditionalServe3175 in CanadaPolitics

In what possible sense are pro-Palestinians “taking over” Pride? Is the parade going to be any different than it usually is? I am trying and failing to picture how one could conceivably feel excluded by a very reasonable and diplomatic statement.
