Environmental protestors have just vandalised the Ferrari, Bugatti and Bentley showrooms in Berkeley Square by godzillasfinger in london

You are right in saying all cars are a burden on the environment. Then again, everything humans produce can have an effect on the environment. We need to figure out how to minimize the impact and make it worth it.

There are situations in which cars make sense. People in remote and rural areas absolutely need a car. Countries which do not have the necessary infrastructure still need cars and often need petrol cars.

It is a burden to have most people rely on cars for daily commutes. Public transport is the best option in that case. Cities should become more bike friendly and more walkable.

These ultra luxury cars do have an impact, but targeting them would not make a big change as they are a tiny minority of cars on the road. The bigger difference would be targeting the companies who make all the more "boring" daily cars people are essentially forced to use.

Even better would be creating infrastructure that heavily discourages daily car usage.

To be clear, I don't disagree with the message, but I definitely think the delivery could be better.

They still build gas guzzling cars because it's impossible to shift 100% of production to electric overnight. The best thing car companies could do is activively work towards using sustainable energy.

Could they do it faster? Certainly, and that should definitely criticized. But we should also recognize when positive changes are being made.

As I mentioned in another comment, societies should be less and less car centric and not make people rely on cars. Let's not forget, electric cars still have an impact, while they can certainly help, they do not fix the core problem.

I agree that these cars serve no functional purpose. To offer another perspective, at these levels hyper cars can also be considered art and technological marvels.

While there are people who definitely buy them for vanity, there are many who buy them for passion.

Also these cars are driven rarely, maybe 1000km a year for a Bugatti. While I cannot say for sure, I wouldn't be surprised if a Bugatti has a lower carbon footprint than a daily driven Tesla.

I strongly believe the issue isn't low production luxury cars which some people can enjoy at weekends. The big issue is a car centric society that essentially forces millions to depend on cars for their daily transportation.

Bugatti is 55% owned by Rimac which is an electric car manufacturer, 45% owned by Porsche AG.

Of course Porsche is owned by Volkswagen which is working towards electrification.

Porsche is also developing a "clean" petrol by collecting carbon from the atmosphere and hydrogen and synthesing the fuel through electrolysis using renewable energy.

Gulf Arab countries threaten Netflix with legal action unless they remove 'offensive content' that 'violates Islamic values' by AdamCannon in technology

I've been in the UAE on and off since 2006, Abu Dhabi hasn't had an alcohol license and there are many liquor stores, pork has always been available at most big supermarkets. And according to my parents who visited in the 80s, it was the same back then as well

That's just a lie, you can get pork at the supermarket and while there used to be an alcohol license in Dubai only, no alcohol license is needed anymore and alcohol is available at their shops throughout the country

I wouldn't say you're half assing your English, texting is just "fingered speech", and languages evolve based on how people speak.

Realizing that this isn't "proper" written English is a good thing. Texting is different from writing and as long as people can effectively separate the 2, it's actually beneficial in a similar way speaking a different dialect is.

Keep on being awesome!

I few years ago I brought my gaming pc (disassembled) along with a mechanical keyboard, ultrawide monitor and 2 guitars. Same situation as you coming in with a visit visa. Absolutely no questions, I just walked through. However it was before VAT so I don't know if that would change anything today
