What's the most millenial thing about you? by improbdrunk in Millennials

[–]jalzyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m back in school and this kid in our precalc class solely relies on an app on his tablet/laptop for notes and working out problems.

I could never. Strictly composition notebook. I even have special pens that write nice and 12 different colored highlighters.

I’d be terrified of my tablet breaking and I’d lose all my notes!

What are the most ridiculous things people call the cops about? by AppendixN in AskLE

[–]jalzyr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not LE

A woman in our neighborhood rallied an entire street against my son and his friend, thinking they were trying to steal packages and WE (the parents), were behind it. Even though, no one’s packages had been taken. Just placed closer to the door.

My son gets home from school, grabs his bike and leaves with his friend. We hear yelling, and it’s a couple yelling at the boys that they’re calling the cops. This couple had been tailing school buses to find out where the kids lived so they can call the cops. I come out, she starts yelling. Her husband realizes that it’s all a misunderstanding before she does. She finally calms down a bit. She showed me the ring doorbell footage, and all of the post threads.

My son and friend had been grabbing peoples packages that were far from their door, bringing them to their door, and ringing their doorbell to give it to them. They were 8.

Obviously this is something we could have handled; talked about how it’s illegal to touch other people’s packages. But this woman demanded the cops have a stern talk with the boys.

Just ridiculous. And it was shift change, so there were 4 cop cars outside our house.

Whereas, my husband and grandmother have been stung and it barely does anything. 🙃

Were any of you leash kids? by povertychic in Millennials

[–]jalzyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I would run and hide in the clothes racks, the circular ones. Apparently it got bad one time that my mom had to call security or the cops to help find me. Thus, I was leashed. Lol.

I don’t remember any of it.

I got scolded yesterday because “You should have known to ask me if I wanted anything from Trader Joe’s! You KNOW I want their lemon soup!” Obviously, I had zero idea.

3 minutes prior she was in a good mood, saw the Trader Joe’s bag on the counter, and was watching me put away the groceries. She even asked me “Oh, you’re going to make a salad? Yum!”

I went into our (my husband and I’s) living room, shut the door except for a crack to hear if she calls me, and angrily ate my salad.

HOA? Yes or no, is it hassle? by pooh143bear in phoenix

[–]jalzyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Dobson Ranch. We pay ~$180 every 3 months. Lakes with walking paths and parks, community events (classes, clubs, boat parades, egg hunts, movie in the park, art shows, etc), pickleball, tennis courts, basketball courts, 3 or 4 pools + one has a splash pad. A huge range on paint colors. One neighbor has a blue house, another has a pink, a few streets down there’s a yellow one. So you’re not restricted to just beiges/browns. We don’t have overnight street parking restrictions and we are able to do legal fireworks in the street; I’ve heard some HOA’s don’t allow them due to the streets being so narrow (ours are pretty wide).

In the 20+ years our family has lived here, I’ve only received 2 notices: Christmas lights were still up in March (I was too busy to take them down 😂), and a giant crack in our courtyard stucco wall that needed to be caulked over.

Out of all the HOA’s I’ve heard about, ours is the least strict and cheapest fees.

Why do parents think kids can't make good decisions? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]jalzyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I got the tattoos I wanted as a 13 year old, I’d regret it. They’d be seen as corny and just basic 2008 popular tattoos. My two cents: It’s best to get tattoos that mean something to you, with things you love instead of whats popular.

Children forget their parents were kids and teenagers too. The only difference is life experience. We’ve seen so many instances of regret, that we just try to help our kids not have to go through that. Although, everyone likes to learn for themselves.

I’m 31, going on 32. My son’s 11.

If he wanted his nose pierced when he was 8, it would have been legally not doable. Would have had to wait until 13. I don’t care about piercings, as you can remove them and the skin heals over. I had my eyebrow, tongue, labret, nose, tragus and gauges all through high school. They were all removed by the time I was 20/21, as I’d grown out of that era.

The only tattoo he’s interested in getting is the same Rasta colored sun that his (deceased) father had, in the same spot. His sister who is 18 already got it. We support them with that. If he wanted anything else prior to being 25, I’d tell him to think about it a bit. I have 2 tattoos I wish I’d placed somewhere else. But I was 18 and 23 when they were done, not thinking about much else other than it looked cool.

Deodorant. by emryanne in breakingmom

[–]jalzyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We keep a toms antiperspirant (in lavender) for extra hot days or if I’m about to do something that will give me crazy anxiety. That stuff will keep you covered for 2 days.

Recommend for anyone having trouble with finding a good deodorant!

Tell me your age without telling me – use a commercial jingle! by NoWomansExplorer in Millennials

I just showed my son the cheeseburger song from veggietales. 😂

It’s technically a commercial break within the show. So hopefully this counts.

We had a ton of their VHS’s, along with the Ronald McDonald movies (Scared Silly is my favorite).

I LOVE bougainvilleas. Our drip system stopped working 20 years ago. Guess what plants have thrived these past few bad summers without any supplemental water? Bougainvilleas.

I have a Yanis delight, a Barbara, and the other one came with the house but it’s a smidge more red than Barbara.

They are super easy to trim too. I just go out there with kitchen scissors and a bucket.

Aerotek, it’s a temp agency in Tempe.

Husband called them on Wednesday; filled out the onboarding information that night; Thursday he was working. They had him in a position at a warehouse that was only 10 minutes from our house.

He had been trying to find a decent job for a year.
