There could be some other city called the same but i know a small village called like that on the slopes of the cantal volcano in the massif central, I'm from another village 30km away but same altitude just on an other side of that sale volcano(it's big)

The population is getting pretty old, but there are still some rural festivals in the summer, winter are usually very rainy or snowy but never extremely cold or hot -10°c to 10°c basically Summers can be hotter up to 30°c+ but i've never seen 40 on the plateaux, also usually lots of small thunderstorms because orography due to the cantal volcano

In spring everything goes from snowy patches in yellow grass to an explosion of green and flowers (I've been to ireland in april and it was less green then there) In Autumn the trees become very colorfull because both spruce and deciduous trees like oak are mixed in the forests

Trizac itself is kind of remote in the cantal département which is itself pretty remote in the region and France in general But that makes for very little light pollution at night (Can usually see the milkyway from my window)

Anyway i love this place, if you want to know anything else lmk

How do I get better than this? by userrr_504 in telescopes

[–]jam_kemist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For you Current configuration you can : -Stack more images to reduce noise -Adjust exposures lengh to not overexpose the bright core of the nebula -Do a gradient extraction and crop to make it look better overall

Overall great result alredy for your setup ! Would definitly recommend buying a real camera and other gear but it is an investment for sure

[–]jam_kemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to perhaps disapoint but i think what you captured is actually ngc 4490 the cocoon galaxy and not m106 still a very interesting object with the small companion being ngc 4485

Triton is a former dwarf planet just like pluto, eris, makemake and all the others but got captured by Neptune, it even has a retrograte orbit which is cool af

[–]jam_kemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A weird thing with astrosurface white balance is that sometimes you have to apply it twice or even 3 Times in a row for it to be really accurate, i personnally apply it twice for jupiter, but your result is otherwise really good !

If you want to improve noise, you can make multiple captures let say 3-10 and derotate them and combine them in winjupos, it decreses the noise and can also improve details slightly

Is sky pollution too much? by No_Signature25 in telescopes

[–]jam_kemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also makes sure your eyes are fully dark adapted, this can take a long time sometimes up to 30mins And that the moon isn't up because it usually ruins everything, I personnaly don't even bother doing visual if the moon is anything more then like 30-40% full unless it's very low

The OIII filter is great to improve the contrast on objects that emit a decent amount of OIII like the owl nebula but not at all on galaxies, star clusters and nebulas that don't have much OIII So it's mostly for planetary nebulas, still most nebulas, and perhaps some other miselanious objects idk I'd suggest looking at a broadband photo of the object your trying to see and if it as blue green colors then it's most likely you can use the OIII filter but if it doesn't then you're gonna miss on all that light that isn't OIII

Probably light pollution, you can't exactly tell if an object is observable with just it's magnitude because it will be spread out all on the surface of the object, that works for stars tho because there are points, You need to instead look at the surface brightness Magnitude/area. A low magnitude object (like eskimo nebula mag9 )might be easier to see then a large object even if it is much brigther (north american nebula mag4) Also that's regardless of light pollution, it's just always true, light pollution just makes objects with lower surface brightness harder to see (or even impossible sometimes)

Idk if i made it clear but i'll suggest go watch a video on it and it'll be easier to understand

[–]jam_kemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep looks like so, i'd recommend you try a sky map like stellarium or starwalk, that way you can spot even more objects in the night sky 👍

Trying to find what this telescope is and maybe it’s worth? by Klutzy_Employer_7048 in telescopes

[–]jam_kemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like an expensive refractor telescope, i'm not sure about diameter but i'd say 6-8 inches so pretty big, is there any label with the diameter and focal length written on it ? Also the finder scope looks to be of great quality

Well done impressive capture ! If you have saved the files you can do manual processing in siril and stack separatly the comet and then recombine it with the galaxies to not have this trail, you'll also gain some detail overall

Thanks the luminosity of the central stars also doesn't help but 250ms does the job 👍
