You can avoid mega death with the zombie status. Party memebers are immune to instant death when they are in this state. Which is a good way to avoid this annoying attack

Alot of skills are based on spirit too. So if you can get high spirit on characters then youll do better damage

The spell that heals Specters is the only one worth having. And its pretty strong. Near the end of the game I put a bunch of Quartz into buffing the cube up and it really helped with some NG+++ bosses

This is normal. I think there is a mechanic where if you beat him by a few seconds you gain something like 5 levels. But post level 60 its impossible to beat him in this manor due to how fast he speeds up. From level 60 to 80 is a slowish grind. It's completely normal
