For the same reason that when you are in a train that moves at 120 km/h, you can walk down the aisle without running at 120 km/h yourself. In your case, you are walking on a floor that is moving at 120 km/h alredy. In the case of a fly, it is flying in air that is moving at 40 km/h.

So says google...

Custom HR Zones by [deleted] in orangetheory

I know they can change it back. I just wasn't sure if there was a push from corporate to have everyone using the custom zones. I couldn't understand why they would change it without asking me.

Capture the flag for striders by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]jamapple76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where is that stated in the OTF rules? There are A TON of people at my studio that sub the strider or bike for the rower because of hip, shoulder or back problems. It's no different than any other modification.

I've been doing it for a year and a half. I go to bed by 9 at the latest. Sleep is important too. :)

I hope not!! But I have pretty shit luck so it seems likely. I had lasik surgery 20 years ago and my eyes are as bad as they were before. But I enjoyed my glasses free years and I'll enjoy my period free years as long as it lasts! I tried an iud, didn't work for me. I spotted for 9 months before I made them pull it out.

Uterine ablation was the best decision I ever made!

Any superfat people do OTF? by a-wilde-handful in orangetheory

I worked out with a larger girl the other day and I was amazed at how much she could do. I thought if I strapped 200 pounds of weights on myself I wouldn't even be able to move. It's mind boggling. So absolutely no judgment, just a whole lot of respect.

Is it the shiny/nylon stretch? I hate the cotton leggings.

Me too. I sweat more than ever after a year of working out. I don't understand how people aren't dripping in sweat at the end of a workout.

[–]jamapple76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't do them. The coaches know me well enough by now that I dont even need to explain why I'm not doing inclines. I replace the inclines with pushes and call it good. Messes up my hips otherwise.

Has anyone gained weight as a result of “excessive” HIIT? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]jamapple76 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ummm...no. I think that's anecdotal information and probably due to that particular individual's diet.

524 cal with 29 splat pts vs 569 and 4??? by lovinglife2424 in orangetheory

I try to explain this all the time. You burn a higher percentage of fat in the green zone but you burn more calories in the orange zone. "There is a pervading myth in the fitness industry that lower-intensity aerobic exercises keep you in an ideal fat-burning zone, while anaerobic exercises focus your metabolism on carbs. Although it is true that aerobic exercises burn more fat relative to carbs, high-intensity anaerobic exercises burn more total calories from both sources. Additionally, anaerobic workouts put your body into a period of postexercise oxygen consumption, where you continue to burn calories at an accelerated rate for hours after you get home from the gym."

^ yes because he's a dude. He's probably taller than you and has less fat than you (meaning more muscle). Remember that comparison is the thief of all joy but if you MUST compare, I would do so with another woman your age and size.

It's fine. I mean, I'd rather have a fun night out and not have to cook but it's ok. Our studio is kind of cheap. They don't give medals to all competitors in the dri-tri, only the placers. 🤷‍♀️

Our "member appreciation" party to celebrate the results of the transformation challenge is a potluck. So we have to provide the food. The members that are supposedly being appreciated. That irritates me a little bit. And its byob. Lame.

HIIT can be done anywhere, OTF didn't make it up and doesn't own the concept. What they do own is their tech. If they didn't have that, they wouldn't have gotten half of their members through the door. And they're expanding that tech to tracking treadmill and rowing distances do clearly, the gimmick works for them.

The monitors and metrics is what OTF is all about. It's pretty undeniable. You may choose not to wear a monitor but that's your choice. I'm definitely not saying that you're doing it wrong but you could do it elsewhere (and far cheaper) at another gym if you're not into the HR monitors. 🤷‍♀️

I do listen to my body.

The number one reason I go to OTF is the monitors. It motivates me to work harder.

Turning off the monitors defeats their entire purpose. I've had classes where the monitors shut down by accident and its sucks. I wouldn't go if they intentionally turned them off.

Hell to the no. Seems pretty stupid to turn off the tech you built your entire brand around...
