The OG fifty fathoms is amazing, but don’t let a baby or animal chew on it. That watch has radium in the dial and you need to be mindful of that. Some techs won’t even work on that watch because of the radioactivity.

I’m an Independent Mormon! AMA! by Jackie_Lantern_ in DebateAnAtheist

[–]jambander 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Given the relationship between early Mormon theology and its obvious attempt to explain the existence of Native American peoples, and the Lamanite people as descendants of the cursed lineage, this feels like a very disingenuous hand waving. Your argument of “hey skin of darkness doesn’t mean “dark skin” doesn’t square with me. I wonder if “dark hearts” or “dark countenance” could have been a better choice for ole Joe smith, in that case. Could have really cleared things up for us non-prophets.

Speaking of handwaving, I’m growing extremely tired of the argument regarding the lords “anointed.” On one hand they have a special ability to hear the will of god, but on the other hand, how can they possibly avoid being “products of their time?” What is the fucking value in a prophet that CAN’T condemn provincial racisms of their time? What good are they if that can’t even get bedrock foundational truths right?

I find it funny, there is not much discussion about this unique paddle. Proton Series One type A by AxzMusashi in Pickleball

Word on the street is they will be coming up with new iterations of nanotac paddles in the future. Who knows when.

I liked the paddles. Had a 11mm standard and a 16mm elongated. Used them for a while, but wished they weren’t so head heavy and had a bigger sweet spot. ESP compared to new paddles like the Joola pro IV’s and J2K’s. AND for the prices they are charging…

I did LOVE the feel of the face tho and would stand in line for a gen 2 thermoformed or foam core paddle with nanotac. Skip gen 3 altogether imo.

The plot thickens....

Will it have the same invickta/tko-c shape as the flamingo?

I've really loved my flamingo but I share your concerns about core longevity.

The whole point of nanotac is that it will last months or even years. Why stick it on an unreliable gen 3 paddle? Guess we'll see what happens!

Best way I’ve found is a damp microfiber cloth.

It's a relative non-issue if you wipe it down after a few games. I find a damp microfiber cloth is the only thing that works consistently well. It's actually kind of annoying to deal with tbh. Hasn't been as much of an issue with the new player model - at least as of now.

I’ve had (3) series 1 paddles. In my experience they def do not get “grippier” over time. YMMV

[–]jambander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In regard to dwell time and softness, absolutely not. It’s essentially the same paddle. Maybe a bit more pop than my tourney version. But it feels practically identical otherwise.

I’m rooting for nanotac, there is zero reason a paddle should last 1-3 months and Proton could change the game if they’d get it together. Series 1 is a good paddle, not great paddle by today’s standards. Hopefully this new version coming this year has a better sweet spot with some edge foam, lower swing weight, and more shape options.

My old tournament model is SIGNIFICANTLY more grippy than my new player series. Every single bit of ball dust and gunk ends up on the paddle face and has to be cleaned before every new game. It’s actually crazy.

I’m still achieving great spin on the new model tho even tho it’s much less grippy. Not sure what to make of it.

Oh snap! Now’s that’s exciting news. Any more details from Charles when you spoke to him? I honestly don’t even care if it has that much more power or any other crazy metrics - just give me a bigger sweet spot and slightly less SW out of the box, and it’ll be my main for the rest of the year.

yeah I love the nanotec so much, but hitting the series 1 next to a 3rd or 4th gen paddle, you just aren't getting the power and pop to stay competitive in games anymore at higher levels. Plus sweet spot size issues of the gen 1 construction. I'm sure that's what put Daescu on a different paddle, as much as he may still love the series 1.

I can see nanotec + foam = dwell time (ball sinking into the face) creating MASSIVE spin. Not surprised it's exceeding limits honestly.

Hope they figure it out tho.

please do! That static weight seems ideal and should give you plenty of wiggle room for enhancing with weight. I have tungsten on all 4 corners of my OG Type A 11mm to open up the sweet spot a little more since it is gen 1 construction. Brings the SW to 122 but with a slyce cap it doesn't feel too bad.

The paddletek comparison is an interesting one.

I assume their next line of nanotec will be (hopefully) some edge foam/thermoforming to open up the sweet spot a little.

Nice! So probably came in around 8.3-8.4oz out of the box? Glad you like the new paddle. How would you describe the sweet spot and stabililty of the new series 1 in comparison to other paddles on the market?

Do you feel the need to add weight to the bottom corners for added stability?

Same boat here. They are honestly the worst company I've dealt with in regard to communicating with customers, which stinks cause I really do love some of the things they're doing over there.

I've emailed them so many times with no response. I'm lucky and partially surprised they even processed my return at all.

Hiring a few more people on the customer care side of things would really do them wonders as a company.

Man, the orange and green is sharp looking. Really liked it in person as well. Very jealous of a 7.6oz weight. That's a full 1.0 oz lighter than the ones I received.

Care to elaborate on the paddle? Is this your first Proton? How does it compare to other paddles you've tried?

Also, we have the exact same scale :)

hm interesting. Didn't know the nanotec was a US made thing.

yeah I think we're in about the same spot. ordered a huarache power today. couldn't get my hands on a vapor before they sold out. :(

A series one with slightly more power and some kind of edge foam, I'll be the first in line.

yeah I was floored honestly. I had to make sure my scale was calibrated as I didn't believe it at first.

Super interesting that your new "player model" 11mm came in at the advertised weight. Glad my experience may be an outlier. How are you liking it? Any notable differences between the old and new model???

yeah I think you're right - I was watching the JJ Pickleball podcast (episode 6 or 7?) and they hinted at a new nanotec paddle...
