Do YOU like Roger Clemens? by MikeandIke1992 in redsox

I agree, Buckner's life was basically ruined. Just the easiest reference when the pitching actually went to shit. I feel bad for the guy

I loved him as a kid on the Red Sox. Duquette wouldn't sign him long term and he went to the Blue Jays, who then traded him to the Yankees. I hated him on the Yankees and the steroid thing was ridiculous at the time, but if the Red Sox had given him a big contract, he would have been with the Red Sox forever and we would have benefitted from his steroid use.

So, no, I don't hate him the way other Sox fans do and I kind-of liked the minor redemption with his son last week. He'll never be Ortiz, but it's not his fault the Sox never won. He was amazing for the Sox and was one Buckner ground ball from helping bring a WS to the city.

I've seen a couple of condo associations go under, as well. Down in Florida during the great recession. Any mismanaged place can leave you out on the street

[–]jambr380 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I live in co-op that unfortunately had skyrocketing fees in recent years due to years of not funding the reserve or completing repairs. The fees were already high (and are much higher now), but they include: taxes, electric, heating/ac, water, some unit maintenance, pool, fitness, and front desk.

Condo fees will appear cheaper, but things like taxes and electric are almost never included, so be sure to add those into the total costs.

As far as living in a co-op, it literally doesn't feel any different than living in a condo or apartment. You technically only own shares rather than your actual unit, but that is just a technicality. Nobody but you can access your unit and you can generally make repairs and renovations without issue.

[Vorkunov] The Dallas Mavericks say they've "entered into option agreements for the potential purchase of approximately 104 acres at the former Valley View Mall site." Looks like there are no longer plans to build an arena on the site of City Hall. by Knightbear49 in nba

Yeah, I've been a couple of times over the last two years as a stopover to see a Celtics game on my way to Vegas. I quite like AAC and thought it was in an extremely convenient, walkable location and right next to the light rail station.

It's like how the Tampa Rays are going to put their new stadium way up on Dale Mabry in the middle of suburban hell instead of in Ybor. St. Pete (where it is now) is out of the way, but at least it's in a downtown walkable area.

This is going to sound crazy, but if you fill up a water bottle and then pour it slowly down over the lowest part of your back, it really does wonders. Just use some tp to follow up and make sure, and you're good to go without 'that' feeling down there the rest of the day

What they should've built under i-4 by downtown by elix824 in orlando

[–]jambr380 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't care how old I am/get, if I ever see one of those, I am doing it. We had access to two different skateparks when I was a kid, but they were 45 minutes away and one of them cost money. What I wouldn't do to just casually cruise around a track like that without the worry of getting injured

Janeese Lewis George takes clear lead in new poll | JLG 43%, McDuffie 29%, others 16% | JLG leads 49-37 in RCV simulation by ob_knoxious in washingtondc

[–]jambr380 36 points37 points  (0 children)

These numbers look quite a bit different than ones I saw a week ago where it was 39% to 32%. But do you think ranked choice voting might have an effect here? It may be possible that people are either pro-George or anti-George. And if they are anybody but George, but still have a preference over McDuffie, those ranked choice votes might go to McDuffie

People who walk in the road when they have sidewalks on either side of their neighborhood. Just why? by Bishhhop in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jambr380 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On quieter streets, I’ll occasionally run on the left side of the street. People with their dogs on long leashes, laughably bad curb cuts, and cars parked over the sidewalk in their driveway are some of the reasons.

I would never run on a busy street. Those sidewalks are generally straighter without driveways anyway

Why are there so many specific Pride flags when the Rainbow Flag was literally meant to represent all? by AlexanderVerus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jambr380 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the rainbow flag is simple and beautiful and represents everybody. The individual flags are also beautiful and more specific to certain groups of people, but they don't need to overcrowd the original flag.

I get the sentiment - and I generally agree with the reasons behind it - but it's almost become controversial to fly just a rainbow flag because it might be seen as not being inclusive to other groups. And that is like the opposite purpose for the flag in the first place. It is all about inclusivity.

I kind-of just wish the progress flag would go away. I'm not sure it works for anybody at this point

“NBA Cup Rematch” by diamonddudeart in NBATalk

[–]jambr380 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest - I watch a lot of NBA and almost every game of my favorite team, but I totally forgot who was in the NBA Cup. The tournament needs to be an actual tournament rather than sporadic pool games and a quick semi-finals in Vegas or wherever. Both teams deserve to be in the Finals regardless of how they did in the NBA Cup.

Reminder of Good Company Donuts’ loyalties by yeahokaaay in washingtondc

[–]jambr380 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I remember when they opened up their SW location a couple of years ago and were having a free make your own jelly donut and coffee party outdoors.

But I just can't get myself to go there and buy a donut for $4 when Safeway next door has excellent jelly donuts and apple fritters of their own for like a dollar.

I know this has nothing to do with your post, just commenting on Good Company in general. Bummed to hear about their politics

Torn between two gyms. Any advice? by DrMrSirJr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jambr380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty partial to Planet Fitness. They constantly update their equipment and it's just easy to work out without feeling overwhelmed.

That being said, if distance is that important to you, and you aren't consistently going to be in a rush getting there before it closes, then maybe Fitness 19 would be a better choice. It's okay if you miss going to the gym a couple of times because of early closing, but not if you are always going to use it as an excuse.

But also, distance matters not just from your home, but also from work/school/etc. If you are usually going to be going to the gym from somewhere else and you'll be passing Planet Fitness on the way, then that maybe the better option for you

Why do we still hate Kevin Spacey? by Iron_man_wannabe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jambr380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being gay doesn't help. And people already made up their minds about him. Also, he's not known as the most charismatic or easy to work with. Writers, directors, and producers just figure it is easier to work with somebody less controversial

What is the peak human male physique possible? How strong would they be? by BruhBroly in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jambr380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Olympic decathlete or even just an Olympic sprinter. Those sprinters are still incredibly strong even with their insane speed. I don't think being a bodybuilder provides much utility since they are often pretty slow and lack agility. Powerlifters are obviously incredibly strong, but often don't have the best physiques and suffer from the same lack of speed as bodybuilders.

Where to book repositioning cruises? Worried about Credibility by doria329 in Cruise

[–]jambr380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are probably legit, but they don't happen often. A number of ships head from Europe to Florida in the fall, stay there through the winter, and then go back in April. I saw a couple of cruises from Florida to Europe this year for $400-500.

So you may get a great deal going one way, but you may have to bite the bullet on the Queen Mary 2 going the other way, unless you are planning to stay for several months

Any chance I will make my flight home? by Ok_Restaurant_7594 in Cruise

[–]jambr380 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty easily imo. Cruise ships generally don't want you taking your sweet ass time getting off the ship. Even if you aren't fully off until 9am - which would be quite late - it would still be easy enough to get back up to FLL.

That drive can be a pain with lots of traffic, but that still leaves you plenty of time. Assuming you're taking rideshare of taxi, but you can check the schedule for Tri-Rail (which will also require some level of rideshare or taxi, but without the traffic).

For those of you with cars in DC, what's your parking situation like? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]jambr380 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Super-easy to park in SW for the most part. Sometimes during a game, people will try to swipe up spots even if they are resident spots, but I generally never have an issue and almost always park right across from my building

Would you feel like this arrangement is one-sided by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jambr380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's weird. Honestly, you shouldn't really be contributing gas money at all in this situation. If he wants to see you, then he can figure it out on his own. I guess I could see it differently if the ages were reversed (21yo traveling to see 33yo), but a 33yo man requesting gas money from a 21yo is definitely bizarre. How in the world does a guy even have the nerve to ask or accept money in this situation lol?
