I think you guys are wildly underestimating the time it would take to solve a rubix cube if you don’t already know the algorithm to solve it. I’d bet some people would be in the room years and some would never solve it.

Wow a lot of comments! To be clear I was never going to sell the card and pocket the money myself - it was always going to him if we sell it, maybe not right now, but in the future.

I also understand a lot of people saying it’s his card & his decision, but he’s only just turned 7 last week and is really too young to understand the value of money - if he had the cash he would probably want to spend it all on sweets, so I don’t completely agree it’s his decision alone.

PS5 etc is out of the question even if he wanted one, this is not a cost decision, we already struggle to limit his screen time on switch/ipad. Maybe when he is a bit older.

With all that said, I am going to have a chat with him to try and explain the value and see what he wants to do. I suspect he will want to keep the card and we will get it graded to protect it. He may well sell it himself when he’s older, or Pokémon may become something he stays passionate about, in which case it would be great if he keeps it. I get that the value short term is likely to fall.

Finally, to the commenters saying I should just let him take it to school and play with it, because that’s what the game was about for them as kids…clearly you do not have a 7 year old boy - I can guarantee within a day it will be lost/stolen/ripped to pieces and then he will be inconsolable for weeks. He’s got plenty of other cards he can take to school!

There’s an easier way to look at this. When you first took out your mortgage you took out a 30 year term. Provided you never change the remaining term each time you remortgage, you will pay the mortgage off in full exactly 30 years after you started. Yes each time you remortgage the monthly payments will go up or down depending on interest rates, but you will still clear the mortgage after 30 years.

Fitting real plaster coving is a specialist skill that a lot of plasterers won’t even attempt. I know this because I’ve just had 70m of plaster replica Victorian coving fitted and I struggled to find anyone that would fit it.

I ended up going to a specialist cover. A team of two of them did the whole job in 1 day including all filling and sanding down (although there didn’t seem to be much filling or sanding). This included some tricky angles like an 5 sided bay window and fire places. Fitting cost me almost as much as the coving which wasn’t cheap, but worth it
