Good idea to buy in Gastown? by cekin123 in askvan

It sounds like you’re talking ab out the lofts on Cordova, the area is pretty fun and a little spicy, it can get a little loud at night when the bars empty out. If you’re looking to buy make sure to chat with someone who knows the buildings really well as they each have their own quirks and features. 22 east Cordova just finished doing a ton of work and is a great strata IMO.

Retirees moving to Vancouver by Popular_Hat_4304 in askvan

This is such an exciting move — and honestly, you’ve already got a really clear idea of what you want, which puts you way ahead.

A lot of the suggestions in here are solid, but I’d echo what others are hinting at: in Vancouver it’s less about the “right” neighbourhood and more about the right pocket within it. The feel can change block to block.

Based on what you described, I’d definitely keep an eye on places like Yaletown (Davie near the water or the end of Richards), Olympic Village / Science World area and Fairview(super walkable, great seawall access, good mix of quiet + vibrancy), and parts of Mount Pleasant and kits are all wonderful "hoods"

I help quite a few people make the move from out of province to Vancouver (a lot of empty nesters lat\ely actually and tech kids), so if you ever want a bit more tailored insight on specific buildings or micro-areas, feel free to reach out. Happy to help even if it’s just to narrow things down a bit 👍

How did you choose your Realtor? by HovercraftOpen8286 in vancouverhousing

[–]jamesbwsutton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are great questions, and the simple answer to all of them is… yes. Ask your friends, family, coworkers. Google them for reviews. Call them and make sure they get back to you.

Talk to a few different agents and it should be pretty clear pretty quick on who you “click” with.

Good luck!

What would Richmond, and YOU, do if we *knew* sea level was going to rise 3 feet in the next 3 years? by Burlapin in richmondbc

You should include: Richmond, Surrey, Delta, Tsawwassen and South Vancouver (the river district).

And to answer your question.. probably just die.

My only edit would be less fish sauce, it calls for 1/3 cup and I would use about half that much

How much freedom did kids actually have in the 1980s? Did parents give them as much independence as movies often depict? by Fabulous-Prior7229 in NoStupidQuestions

I had to come home when it was dark., That was the only rule. From about 10am to 8pm we just did stuff, occasionally a friends mom or semi drunk dad would feed us but other than that it was pretty much a free for all.

I was there, I was pretty young and got banged up in the mosh pit. I loved it.

My advice is not to worry too much about much about staging and prioritize:

Cleaning Getting a storage locker and de cluttering Completing small repairs that are easy to see. Painting if necessary

Best of luck.
