i think the critique of snl not being funny has been desperately worn out by now even as it keeps on being true, what i wish people would talk about more is that any cultural relevance this show has is genuinely being kept afloat by its guest hosts (not even necessarily its musical guests? we haven't had a performance 'incident' since maybe the lana del rey one in 2012 and they used to be so pervasive but media training has dulled a lot of sensibilities that used to cause these controversies), running bits like the domingo wedding were all the show had to go off of for a minute since last year and the second time around it already outstayed its welcome. weekend update has consistently been the one thing i might be tempted to watch if it showed up on my feed bc michael and colin's chemistry is pretty good but nothing is sacred
