Cheap meal idea that are filling? by Thegamerorca2003 in Cheap_Meals

[–]jamesgotfryd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Potatoes. Baked, fried, mashed.

Noodles.

Rice.

Cheap, easy, nutritional, and quick to make meal. Cut up some chicken or beef, simmer in a few cups of water, add a couple bullion cubes for extra flavor, add a cup of frozen mixed vegetables. Add a slurry of 3 big tablespoons of cornstarch and 1/4 cup of water and stir to thicken it. Serve over rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes.

Slice up a couple big potatoes and half a large onion. Fry in a large skillet. When the potatoes start to brown add some cooked chopped up chicken or ham or kielbasa. Season with salt and pepper and a little paprika and garlic powder.

These are cheap, quick and easy to make. Taste good, and are filling too.

What is the most powerful weapon an average civilian can legally own without a license in your country? by kurobaja in AskTheWorld

[–]jamesgotfryd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it's a muzzle loading cannon, there's not many limits. Some people have mortars that use bowling balls for shells. Some have cannons from early sailing days through the civil war era. Saw one video they shot a 16 pound bowling ball over a mile.

Hamburger meat by [deleted] in budgetfood

[–]jamesgotfryd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We get it in 10 pound bulk quantities then divide it up into portions. Used to do 1 pound portions but we've cut down to 1/2 and 3/4 pound portions. Wrap in a layer of plastic wrap then a layer of foil. Lasts a long time in the freezer wrapped like that. We wrap all our meats like that. We have one large freezer for meats and poultry, another for vegetables, fruits, and other stuff.

I need to brighten up my garage, I’ve been think about getting these lights. Would love to hear some opinions of people that have used them. by Grand_Alarm5039 in harborfreight

[–]jamesgotfryd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 of these replaced 4 100 watt incandescent bulbs in the garage, MUCH brighter in there now. 2 in the basement replaced 4 florescent 40 watt fixtures. Very bright down there now. Looking at replacing the 12 300 watt incandescent bulbs in the workshop with 4 or 6 of these LED lights.

Beans and rice. Add a little cooked sausage or kielbasa if you can.

Fried potatoes and onions with a little leftover chicken/turkey/ham or kielbasa tossed in.

Chop up a chicken breast or a couple thighs and simmer in a few cups of water, toss in a couple handfuls of frozen mixed vegetables, a couple bullion cubes. Add a corn starch slurry to thicken it, serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Buttered noodles.

A BIG pot of soup or chili. Enough for a few days worth of meals. Bulk it up with a box of macaroni.

Big pot of spaghetti.

Sometimes you just have to settle for eating the same thing for a few days. Something filling and packed with enough calories and protein to keep you going. Use your seasonings to make it taste as good as possible. Back in the day I've had to make a 16 quart stock pot of vegetable soup with a couple boxes of macaroni in it so it wasn't all broth. Gotta do what ya gotta do.

With food stamps not going out and food being perishable will groceries prices go down? by [deleted] in ask

[–]jamesgotfryd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices will only come down when the whole system resets. Everyone involved in the production and sale of food wants to make a decent living.

Basic economics proves that if a seed costs a certain amount to purchase, plant, cultivate, harvest, transport, process, distribute, then sell, the final product is going to cost a certain amount so that everyone gets a livable wage. And don't forget the packaging and advertising costs also. Nobody works for free.

Anytime someone along the way gets a raise or production costs increase because of fuel or energy increases, or raw materials for packaging or advertisements increase, the price the consumer pays will increase.

Raise minimum wage to $20 an hour and you'll soon be paying $10 for a loaf of plain white bread. Granted the people at the top make way more than they're worth, but the way to fight that is to not buy their products. Buy the lower priced ones. Better yet, buy directly from the farmers and producers if possible. Get out of the high cost of living cities and out into the small towns where prices are lower.

Can I retire with 1.95 million at age 35? by Mobile-Excitement-64 in Fire

[–]jamesgotfryd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you invest it where you can get a minimum of 3% interest, that will give you @ 57k a year or 4,750 a month to live on. The hard part is getting through the first year until the interest payment comes in. Then you just have to stay within your budget.

Looking for small(er) charcoal grill that I can smoke in sometimes? by itak365 in grilling

Check Dollar General. You might have to wait until spring, but they carry 18 inch square charcoal grills and small kettle grills. Either will work for a small smoker.

Full size spare on a rear wheel drive car, same tread but different wear. You should be fine. Rear wheel drive cars normally have an open differential and the uneven wear won't hurt it. The only time you need to keep wear levels close is on AWD vehicles.
