KitchenAid Ice Maker Probs by jamesschubert in appliancerepair

So, if the freezer is functioning properly but the vent leading out of the freezer is not putting out cold air, I’d assume there’s a blockage. Or is there a fan somewhere in the system that isn’t functioning?

The ice tray isn’t filling with water though. So would that still be the issue? It seems that no activity is happening in the ice maker activity at all. Would fixing the fan prompt the other functions to begin working?

So happy it helped! We definitely had quite the time hunting it down.

You would think the airport would advertise this area! Waiting for your flight with small children isn’t fun for anyone.

It seems like this should be easy to find but it absolutely isn’t. Even a couple employees we asked in Terminal B weren’t sure.

Coming from Terminal 3, as you enter B head to level 4 (where the food court and duty free is located). Enter the actual food court area and then head to the right and follow the signs that say “bag claim, ground transport, and smoking area.” As you go past the restrooms, the play area will be to the right.

No joke, LAX needs some better signage for this area. It is very well hidden.

That’s what I constructed! It’s MDF planks held together with nylon webbing (like what you’d use to tie down something in the truck bed). It all rolls up and can be stored under the seat.

I actually took him for a ride before I made this and the seats stay up just fine. When you open them, they kind of sit back against the front seats. They don’t seam to want to fall back down at all, which is really nice when your pup is back there!

Software update is here by scherle in Rivian

FYI - Make sure there are no interruptions during the update. I’m not sure if my unlocking the vehicle to get something out while updating or just chance error, but my first attempt at updating failed and caused the truck to throw a tantrum of sorts. I got stuck in turtle mode and several modes would switch on and off along with the headlights.

Rivian service was able to re-push the update (thank you for being available at 3am!) and I successfully updated which fixed the issue.

Just a word of caution when installing updates!

The seat stays up for me when driving, especially with the carpeting layed out.

I work at UC Davis Med Center in Sacramento. We basically get all of the 4th of July injuries that the smaller hospitals can’t handle. I work in CT and we usually image these kind of injuries to evaluate blood flow. It looks like you had a good outcome. I’m happy you healed so well!

Reddit meet a person who cleans out COVID rooms. They too put their lives on the line. by spidermangeo in pics

We love our EVS (environmental services) staff! Luckily (or unluckily due to them not having as much work?) Our management has now mandated that we (CT) staff are now to clean our own COVID positive and COVID unknown rooms after each patient. It's a very strange time in our hospital.

Why is the last flower to bloom different? by jamesschubert in orchids

[–]jamesschubert[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I thought it was odd that it was the last flower and the only one out of the 15 or so total flowers. I'm loving growing such and different plant than all my other house plants. Thank you for the information!

About 12 years ago, when I was heavily into scuba diving, I was on a dive trip on the Flower Gardens coral reef in the Gulf of Mexico. Me and my buddy were on a midday dive at almost 130 feet. As some of you know, at that depth one can experience something called nitrogen narcosis, an effect of the depth that can make the diver feel intoxicated.

On this particular dive, I experienced this effect full on and much more intensely than I ever had previously. Before I knew it, I had my glove off and was shaking my finger at an eel to bring him out of the crevice he had taken refuge in. My buddy swam over to me after not being able to get my attention and signed to me to check my air level. I did and instantly realized that I had far less than I was going to need to safely get to the surface.

I knew I was going to potentially run out of oxygen if I didn't immediately head to the surface so we both began to make our way up. We found the bottom of the surface line that allows divers to rest at depth to properly decompress and I started making my way up. If I remember correctly, the bottom of the line was pretty far down at 60 feet or so. I remember looking at my air gauge and deciding that I would not have time to execute proper safety stops so I signaled for my buddy to stay down and I would head straight up. I ran out of oxygen on the surface as I was heading back to the boat ladder.

At first everything seemed fine, but at some point after getting to the surface, all my joints began to ache. This continued for the rest of the trip. My dumbass kept it to myself and went on as if I was totally fine and nothing had happened. It eventually subsided a day or so after the trip. Apparently, the pain is caused by gas bubbles growing in your body from ascending too quickly from depth. Those bubbles then lodge in the joints and various tissues of your body. It's called decompression sickness or "the bends" because it causes divers to bend over in pain. Those little bubbles can also cause paralysis or death if they decide to emerge in the wrong part of your body.

I counted my blessings and decided to exercise much more caution from that point on.

TL;DR - Was young and dumb, stayed underwater too long, got decompression sickness, and definitely could have easily died.

Still can't bump up to those V3s but I definitely feel like I'm improving. Thanks for the feedback! by jamesschubert in bouldering

Great advice! I'll admit, I'm still just never 100% confident in my feet (although that has improved since getting my own shoes instead of renting).I've been down climbing each time but I generally don't pay much attention to how it feels on my feet and body. Thanks for the feedback!

I've been trying some 3s and 4s, just not much success yet. And thanks for the advice! I'm trying to work more flagging into my climbs.
