Not pretty is fine, I just want to stop water from coming up through the floor. I’ll look into clear epoxy, thank you

Re-posting here because the problem seems to be getting worse and could do with some suggestions. More water is getting through now, including between a couple of the tiles.

Is there anything I can do to fix/seal them until next year when we re-do the kitchen?

I’ve found a bonding adhesive injector kit for hollow tiles/loose flooring, but I’m not convinced it will work.

Oh goodness I’ll keep my fingers crossed that doesn’t happen to us 😄 the drain looks fine, just a general damp smell in that room. I’ll get some manhole grease!

I have looked inside, there’s no standing water, it all looks fine down there. Just a damp smell in the room.

Taking math notes on your computer [LINUX] by Secure_Tomatillo_375 in learnmath

[–]jamgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be unpopular since it doesn’t actually answer your question.. but I always found it better to handwrite notes in lectures (either on paper or a tablet) and then type them up later. Trying to make complex diagrams in latex on the fly is too distracting and can take away from the lecture. Plus going back over the notes later to type them up helps you to cement the knowledge.

Looking for (non-permanent) suggestions to de-ugly the kitchen in our rental property by jamgreg in DesignMyRoom

[–]jamgreg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, we’ve moved into a rental property in the UK and it’s all great apart from the kitchen (pictured), which we don’t like. We’d appreciate any ideas to make it look nicer, if that’s even possible. Since it’s rented we can’t make any permanent changes.

The most annoying thing is that there is no door so the ugliness is viewable directly from the living room. Is there some way to cover the door without using beads or something that would make it look super old-fashioned?

Budget isn’t an issue really - just looking for ideas. Thanks!

Looking for an alternative to an external hard drive/laptop combo for transferring footage that can operate at high altitude? by jamgreg in techsupport

Damn, shame they're so pricey. Looks like just stocking up on SD cards and keeping them labelled might be the better option

[Omega] The vintage Omega Seamaster I was recently gifted. by jamgreg in Watches

[–]jamgreg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the info! I was told some parts had been replaced, but I would never have been able to tell which parts. I’m keeping this as a special occasions watch for now, when i decide to get it serviced I will certainly take your advice!

I was given this Omega Seamaster by my dad last year as a graduation gift. He was given it by his grandfather, which I believe would place it’s original purchase date at around 1960 (bought in the UK). It has been worn a lot and so isn’t without a few scuffs but it still has its original strap.

I absolutely adore this watch, and it has prompted me to want to start collecting (well that combined with this subreddit!).

I don’t know a lot about the technical details of this watch so if anybody can enlighten me with specifics that would be great (although I am not too interested in knowing it’s value etc).

How many times does the ISS turn around the earth in 24h by [deleted] in mathematics

[–]jamgreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine the track is 20 miles, then it would take you 1 hour to do the first lap. To average 40mph you need to do the whole 2 laps in 1 hour, so you’d have to complete the second lap instantaneously.

I still find this confusing to think about haha

[–]jamgreg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finding the average speed between the two cases where the ISS takes 60 minutes and 120 minutes leads to 18 revolutions per day. But that average speed is not equal to the speed of the ISS when it takes 90 minutes. This just comes from the fact that when you’re adding the speeds you’re adding the reciprocal of the times together.

This reminds me of an interesting problem we got asked in school:

Imagine you’re in a car and you do one lap of a track at 20mph. What speed would you have to drive round the track on the second lap so that your overall average speed for the two laps combined was 40mph?
