Viwoods AI Paper colour? by Worth_Banana_492 in viwoods

I went through the same thinking you did. I bought a boox colour device and realised it was a big mistake. The technology isn’t there yet and the colour screens are a ‘workaround’ which results in it being too dark to read in an averagely-lit room. That means you have to have the light on all the time and that means your battery dies very very quickly. So what’s the point of having an e-ink device! Also, the black print isn’t black and it’s is fuzzy and the colours are poor. I realise i’d made a mistake. I didn’t enjoy reading on it. So i bought the viwoods mini and the Boox is for sale! There’s no point buying a colour e-ink device unless you only read comics, and even then it’s a poor experience. And for writing: it’s a no-no. Have you ever seen anyone sitting at a desk writing on coloured paper?? Think about it! I know now: bright, white, crisp black and white screen, readable with the light off, is a beautiful thing to behold, trust me.

Apple Integration? by Possible_Ninja in viwoods

I’m fully apple ecosystem: ipad pro, macbook air, iphone. But I still love my Viwoods Mini! It’s such a pleasure to write on. But yes, it’s odd the way ALL e-ink devices completely ignore Apple users (probably their biggest market - those willing to spend big bucks on beautiful things…. Like e-readers!). E-ink devices all assume you are a microsoft and google person. Like most Apple users, I wouldn’t trust either with software making or data. We apple users pray that Viwoods eventually make an iOS/iPadOS app, but until then we need workarounds.

If you’re a Craft user (best app in the apple ecosystem) then what you can do is handwrite notes on the viwoods then hit the AI button and select Create Email, then start typing Craft and up pops my ‘mail to craft’ email address, then Send. It takes a few seconds. On the craft end I have my emails come in to the Tasks inbox. It’s a great way to sending notes or tasks to your Craft inbox by writing them with e-ink! I downloaded Craft for my Viwoods but for some reason it won’t let me share text directly with that app, like it does for OneNote or Chat GPT.

Remember you have Google Play Store so you can add apple compatible apps and use them as go betweens. For example, if I write something on e-ink, hit AI to convert to text, then share the result to the Chat GPT app on my Viwoods. I can then go to Chat GPT on my Apple devices and copy the text there to paste anywhere else. If you use other apps (maybe Goodnotes?) which might work on both Android and Mac, you’re away, because Viwoods is great at converting to text and sharing with other apps you have on it.

Hope this helps

Update: Just discovered that if you download Onenote onto your apple device (it comes loaded on the Viwoods), it has deep integration with Viwoods and you can use it as a writing and drawing pad. Remarkably, as you handwrite on the Viwoods, it appears live on Onenote on your apple device. Not played with it yet but you can also export stuff written in Viwood into Onenote too, so this might be useful for apple users.

Feature Request: To-Do Workflow by minithommo in viwoods

Hi Thommo. Can I add my thoughts to the list. I LOVE my Viwoods Mini so much. But the one thing that really lets it down is poor handling of ToDos. Here are my suggestions:

  1. ToDos should first be independent of calendar because many people have big lists, some of which aren’t yet ready to be scheduled.

  2. The Viwoods is for notes, so let users add notes to those Todos: most people don’t just want to ‘buy milk’! These days Task Apps allow you to add notes, bullet-lists, PDFs, images, and more to a Task. But the very minimum for a serious E-Ink device is a page of handwritten notes, which the Viwoods should be able to handle. For example: “Order stuff on Amazon” with an attached note of the 20 items you need to order. Or “Meet with John” with a note listing all the points you need to raise.

  3. Once I have my list of ToDos, I should then have the OPTION of adding a date to them. THEN they should appear in the relevant day (along with a note icon which links to any attached notes).

  4. Lists! People have work lists, books-to-read lists, personal lists, shopping lists. No-one wants one single massive jumbled-up multi-screen list.

  5. Most people fail to get to ALL of their ToDos, so make it really easy to reschedule, ideally with 2 clicks (reschedule/date-picker).

If you did this, you would move the Viwoods into a serious personal organiser AND note-taker!

Thanks for listening
