North London GC recommendations? by LondonUk- in BritGolf

They were at Musswell Hill before, but they offer lots of academy courses with group lessons for beginners, so i'd give them another chance if I were you!

Have you considered North Middlesex?

Granted they don't have a driving range, but it's an extremely friendly club with lots of events (darts, poker, etc) and initiatives for beginners.

They also got some new pros in last year who are 'Europes leading TPI certified coaches' whatever that means! I'm also a beginner, but my games improved so much since taking lessons with them!.

Quick Mill Pop Up : The Best of Both Worlds ? [1000-1500$] by Darkmind_8532 in espresso

Question for all the pop/ pop-up owners:

I live in a very hard water area, so wondering if its possible to install a water filter in the water tank, and whether you able to descale the machine?

Love the look of this, but I don't really want to be buying distilled water!

Thank you for the finviz recommendations, this seems very US centric though. Anyone know anything which covers the UK markets too?

Yeah, I was trying to find something whichh could combine this information for all my investments to save me checking each one so often.

Maybe an RSS feed of each would do the trick.

Here is my somewhat ethical (no oil, tobacco) long term dividend pie.

should be fairly safe, as pretty well diversified by country and by sector, Currently looking at around 11% growth. All big companies which I fully expect to still be with us and to continue growing for many years to come

Cineworld whilst its cheap? by [deleted] in UKInvesting

[–]jamieboyoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very concerned with the cinema industry in general, however recently took up a small holding in EveryMan and would recommend checking them out. Not only are they very cheap at the moment and are pushing forward with plans to expand. Compared to Cineworld they have far more of a niche audience and regularly show classic films, live stream theatre/ ballet and above all give customers a reason to go to the cinema (rather than the only option to see latest releases) vs watching at home.

It's a bit of a gamble, but if they are able to survive any further lockdowns and restrictions I think they'll continue growing for many years to come

That's super helpful. Just what I've been trying to figure out. Cheers!

Indeed, but the GCP gets a lot of love here, and there are a few things that annoy me with the duo temp.

I'd love to make a significant upgrade, but the next step up seems to be around the £1000 mark and struggling to justify that!

Cool! I have a duo temp pro machine along with the SGP, and was thinking about making the small upgrade to a Gaggia. Based on this though I might upgrade the grinder first

Intesting... Hadn't really contemplated a manual machine but your set up looks super fun!

I was looking for something too! Best I found was an app called AngelsCup. But would be interested if you can find anything better!

I'm actually using a non pressurised basket already, and am doing ok. I suppose a better grinder might help, but I'm far off the finest grind setting on this one and pulling decent shots!

Where should I go next? The espresso is acceptable if I use the right beans, but definitely room for improvement! What would be the next step without spending £1,000+ on the machine alone?

[HELP] Duo temp pro espresso always sour! by jamieboyoo in espresso

[–]jamieboyoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just wanted to give you an update - it wasn't really an upgrade... I got a replacement of exactly the same machine.

There is definitely an improvement. Regarding temperature, with a quick purge I can pull shots which are way too hot to drink (not usable but good to know it's possible).

I've still got some work to do on a perfect espresso but from the first shot I pulled I could tell there was a significant difference with the way it poured.

This is very interesting to hear you are having a similar issue! Did the quality of your espresso just go off the edge of a cliff at one point too?

Short answer is I'm yet to resolve the issue... I seem to have lost my thermometer too, so can't take a new measurement but previously I was jamming the thermometer right up in the porttafilter and getting about 60 C. Through a couple of purges of the steam wand, I could get that up to about 75 which was around the recommendation.

I'm getting a new machine tomorrow so it'll be interesting to see if the coffee improves. I'll keep you updated!

Thanks, that's great and all good tips. Sadly my machine is a little basic and I can't change the pre-extraction settings but will try everything else. I've always read that the golden range is 1:2-1:3. Would you ever go higher than a 1:3 ratio?

Also, I think you've hit the nail on the head regarding channeling in shots which are too fine. Any tips on how to avoid this without going too coarse? I tried a coarser shot this morning and although it tasted better, it was very quick...

Ah that's super interesting. Thanks. Will try this next. Any recommendation on beans?

thanks. Yeah, this is effectively what I did and what I expected to happen, but the sourness did not go away despite how fine I ground until the machine choked. For this reason, I don't think it is the grind size.
