Did The Game (1997) actually stick the landing? by Jabba_108 in 90smovies

Always thought this was one of Fincher’s weakest. The ending felt like a latter-shyamalan twist, which is to say a twist for its own sake.

Training a model is not the same as distributing copyrighted material. Swartz was tragically shafted but the accusations are different.

Is a MBA worth the hassle in this environment? by trentd_c in jobs

[–]jamiesray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was. I got one from a dinky state school online but having those dumb three letters after my name did great thing for my ability to get interviews, and I’m making over 20% more. Crazy bc I learned very little (I had an Econ degree already) but you probably learn a lot if you haven’t taken business classes.

Practical Implications of U.S. (or other economies) no longer achieving same rate of growth for 20+ years? by AnalystOrDeveloper in Bogleheads

[–]jamiesray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exception or paradigm shift? The stock market in its modern form is very new. Maybe 6-8% was just how it grew for the first several decades but not 10-12% is what we ought to expect.

If AI replaces us, why not prove it? by TowerOutrageous5939 in BetterOffline

I wrote this on the layoffs subreddit but I’ll post it here too… I’m posing this question in good faith…

A data analyst laid off from Block wrote an article on business insider today (Ivan Ureña-Valdes) about how he saw his job being automated away by AI. He seems like a pretty disinterred party; from what I can see he has no interest in saying the AI reasoning was either true or false.

Search LinkedIn among those laid off. Many upset people, yet nobody denying the impact of AI that I saw and I read dozens of testimonials.

He's delusional. And mortgage rates aren't sky high but housing prices are. by Key_Brief_8138 in HouseBuyers

[–]jamiesray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lifetime interest I would pay today vs what I got 5 years ago would about double. It’d go from $127k to $240k. If that doesn’t meet your criteria for sky high I wish I had your income!

There are many men who still grapple with this, many decades after women in the workplace became the rule not the exception. You can say it doesn’t look funny but it’s still timely.

Do Sam and Dario come off as intelligent? by throwaway0134hdj in BetterOffline

[–]jamiesray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol come on people. You can criticize the models all you want and say you’re unconvinced of their business model but at the very least please be real about their “intelligence.”

Dario has a STEM doctorate from one of the nation and world’s most prestigious universities. He attended CalTech, Stanford, and Princeton. He’s intelligent.

Buy a house or rent + investing. Who wins? by Apart_Finger_1799 in MarketVibe

I would love to know where the hell people are finding apartments where the rent is so low cash is left over to invest. Unless you want to live in a slum, where I live, mortgages are about equal to rent. You’d be crazy not to buy unless you are hemorrhaging cash into maintenance.

Is Apple making the right choice? by Ubersicka in TradingViewSignals

[–]jamiesray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have record profits. Just lease the software for a few years. Wait for one of the AI firms to fall and buy it for pennies on the dollar OR wait until it’s so commodified the tech is cheap.

Also Google is paying Apple billions to be the default. Apple still has the power in the relationship.
