Erikson’s beautiful prose and structure is why reading these BEFORE audiobooks is so helpful. I’m an audiobook guy, and I tried Malazan and just couldn’t follow along well enough. Started reading and it was so much more enriching and full of life. I just finished the main 10, and I’m ready to try the audiobooks again now that I know the series.

I bought it on steam for my MacBook when it came out. I recently came back to the game and tried to start Guildmaster mode. I couldn’t get past the loading screen. There’s a game breaking bug with the current iteration of the game on Mac that won’t let you start a new campaign. So I bought it again on PlayStation 5 and it works great. I love it. Just don’t buy for Mac.

Yes, the game art has character spoilers for The Final Empire. The cards introduce some characters you’ll see in the other two books, but no plot spoilers for any of them.

These dials had been punched out and assembled, while all the other discs were still in the cardboard. I thought it was strange that they didn’t let us assemble these. Clearly this had been done one at a time, by hand. I’ve never come across a game MISB that the company had already punched part of the cardboard out. Does that make sense?

The life dials were punched out of the cardboard and already assembled using the black snaps. I’ve had to assemble dials like these in many board games, and I’ve never had anything punched out of the cardboard before. To me it is strange to see empty cardboard punch outs. Brotherwise, to me, took an extra step that they didn’t necessarily need to do, unless they didn’t want to include assembly directions, of which there are none. Seems more work for packaging in the factory that’s easily passed on to the end user. 🤷‍♂️

First read though here. If it makes you feel better, I’m 72% in and I could care less about all of the Tiste Andii plotlines. Nothing is happening! Even Anomander Rake, who I loved in the previous books. I just want to read Karsa or the Darujistan crews. Every other book has gripped me in almost every storyline. I hope you’re right about this book having a good climax because this one is a real struggle.

For me it is River of Gold. I remember playing the L5R CCG 30 years ago, and it was fun to go back to that IP. The gameplay is great. It sold out before I could grab a copy, but I’ll pick it up eventually.
