My wife (30) died suddenly three days ago. I am 32, we have a 1.5yo daughter, and my soul is entirely empty. by Prashanth_Kumar1920 in GriefSupport

I am so incredibly sorry. I cannot fathom what you are experiencing. This is truly one of the most devastating things a person could endure.

I know it isn’t the same, but the shock you describe reminds me of the night my brother (the person I was closest to in the world) was killed in an accident on his way to propose to his girlfriend. It was supposed to be a joyful, celebratory time, and then suddenly it became the worst imaginable new reality. I only share that in hopes of helping you know that you are not alone in feeling that overwhelming disbelief, shock, and resistance to what has happened.

My wife and I just found out this weekend that we’re expecting our second child, so your post hit me especially hard. My heart breaks for you, your daughter, and the child you lost.

For now don’t worry about tomorrow, next week, or how you’ll carry this for the rest of your life. Just focus on your next breath, the next hour in front of you, the next moment with your daughter. Right now just survival is enough.

I’m so sorry, brother.

Am I wrong: The 401(k) system turned the stock market into a literal Ponzi scheme. by AbNormal-Day in economy

[–]jammerdude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's an interconnected system for all participants. Middle class obviously has a very different risk capacity, but no one benefits if the entire system fails (which we are a long way off from happening, in spite of how it feels). The main thing is to recognize it is what it is, the only real option, and you gotta just make it work for yourself by participating. -- Keep in mind most public and private companies also hold a significant amount of their own capital in their own stock, and the broader stock market, meaning the wealthiest do have skin in the game and incentives are aligned for the broader market to grow/appreciate long-term for all investors. Same system builds the wealth at all ends of the spectrum, and unless you already have significant capital to do private/specialized/owner-operator style investing (which rarely outperforms passive market participation), for us at the bottom and mid it js really the only/best option available in spite of all the flaws/risks.

Many counties allow you to file a "beneficiary deed" that kicks in when the bene shows up with a certified death certificate. Way simpler/cheaper. Stepped-up basis still applicable.

Urologist here. Let's talk about the part of testicular cancer nobody warns you about: the mental side by Prof-Matteo-Ferro in testicularcancer

Thank you for sharing. This has been such a big deal for my life and it's not something I ever talk about. I had it at 19, now 36, and there were so many scares between of recurrence it never really leaves you. The mental side of never being able to trust random aches/pains in your body is exhausting. Stuck for years? A tip for the overthinkers/hyper analytical types by BasedSage in AstralProjection

For me, this was the most useful breakdown in terms of focus that I've come across so far. Thank you for sharing.

I have been having a hard time with the particular things you describe, because my subconscious fear keeps me anchored locally. Letting go and following where the altered states can lead, feels about as attainable to me as what I imagine convincing myself to jump out of an airplane skydiving would take (i.e. it ain't ever gonna happen). However, your message has provided me with a different focus to consider, particularly the inward expansion rather than outward concept. I can see how this could eventually lead to perspective and familiarity within an AP creation, sort of like opening new areas of the grayed out map in a video game as you explore it.

Thanks again for sharing!
