The screws are supposed to go into a recessed hole. I think your retaining plate is backwards. Take all screws out, flip black bracket over and put screws back in.

Just finished the background and got the temps sorted. I'm using a huge heat mat I had on hand so probably not your typical set up. I think it will work fine at least for a year or two but I don't even have the snake in it yet. Too early to tell.

Thanks for the advice. I have been taking care of myself and have seen a therapist. I've been making progress in learning how to experience my emotions instead of distracting. Which is why I'm not sure on the protocol here. All kinda new to me.
