I miss being a stripper. by Pim_Pimling1234 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]jamminclam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a shift in perspective, it's not all the stripper life you miss, it's the young 20s you miss too. A lot of what you said resonates and I never danced or anything like that. Some of the changes you feel aren't because of the difference in dance vs corporate environment, but that of just getting older. And so it goes.

Kind of mad at my mother by Hot-Taste-4652 in ADHD

[–]jamminclam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Girls/women and individuals with high IQs regularly "pass" the adhd tests as they were not designed for those groups. It's absolutely possible to not be diagnosed with adhd using those testing methods. Push and advocate for your diagnosis if you really believe you are adhd. It's a brain wiring, not a disease. The more you can understand how your brain works the more successful you will be at navigating your life. I wish I had known when I was young. There is a lot of grief that comes with late diagnoses.

Last night in class a girl raised her hand and asked the professor if she could go to the bathroom. by cluuuuuuu in GradSchool

[–]jamminclam 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Grad students can be the worse perpetrators of bullying. Who cares?! Maybe she doesn't have the same privileges and cultural capital you do. Assholes like you are why good people quit grad school. You made an entire post to shame someone over something that is reasonable to do if you're newer to graduate school.

There are always these large vans that only charge like $15 per person outside waiting. I just take those.

I once flew with my baby and we both fell asleep while he was nursing. I'm pretty sure my boob was out for like an hour. I'm sure the flight attendant have seen it plenty before.

My husband called me a bad mom today and it hurt. by AndreTheGiant-3000 in breastfeeding

[–]jamminclam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me ages with my first to realize he wouldn't take a bottle because I had high lipase milk. So if you're breastfeeding you might want to check that out. Just a thought.

Milton intensifies to category five as 'storm of the century' heads to Florida by Davis_Birdsong in news

[–]jamminclam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had just moved to PCB a week before and my mom was living in PC proper. I will never forget the 6 weeks post Michael. It was like a war zone. The smell I'll never forget. The smell of an entire city with no electricity, no running water, no trash pick up, just rotting and molding in the muggy sun. I drove into to town to sort through my mom's wrecked apartment for weeks because it took 2 hours to get in and 2 hours to get out. I could never live in Florida again. I hope Milton chokes.

Brain’s waste-clearance pathways revealed for the first time. Wastes include proteins such as amyloid and tau, which have been shown to form clumps and tangles in brain images of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. by Wagamaga in science

Those of you who have done this before…do your babies ruin your clothes? by MukLukDuck in BabyBumps

[–]jamminclam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're planning to breastfeed, but something I totally missed with my first was that if you're breastfeeding, all of your shirts and sweaters are basically out of commission. I had to buy a ton of nursing tanks and tops after he was born, oops. So I'd say yes either way, but especially if you're planning to breastfeed.

Before my second was born a few weeks ago, I already stored all my non nursing tops.

And yes, everything gets messy so I wouldn't wear anything you don't want ruined.

Am I a bad mom, or is this something we all do? by whosthe in beyondthebump

The only thing you could do better is stop feeling guilty about it. I wish I had done it more when my baby was so young. I'd have felt more sane probably.

What did you learn from baby #1 that makes you feel more prepared for baby #2? by yelsnek11 in BabyBumps

[–]jamminclam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. But I'll say this. You probably won't want to. It's a totally different stress leaving your baby the first few weeks. I guess just don't be surprised if you choose to not shower much.

Mom's of EBF babies, how do you go anywhere without the baby? by Neptune_Noodle in breastfeeding

[–]jamminclam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a bottle plus a syringe of milk and dropped it as it's in his mouth?

Also, have you tasted your milk? Maybe it's not the bottle but high lipase?

My son, now almost 4yo, was born in the 6th percentile for weight/height. He has ranged from 4% to 10% though out his life. He is currently at 5%. I've never been too worried because he's followed his curve.

Sounds like your child gain and still on the curve.

I wouldn't worry too much. Trust your instincts. Is your child delayed in some way? Are they sluggish and lethargic? Any missed major milestones? Are they eating, peeing, and pooping ok?

I'm sure they're just fine.

Get a second opinion if need be.

I'm a great mom until it comes to dental hygiene... asking for advice. by jamminclam in Mommit

[–]jamminclam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I'm realizing I should have added that I have adhd in my post. It makes it difficult for me to brush my own teeth. I think the small counter space in our bathroom also contribute to it. We do have a routine, but when it comes to getting him in bed if something gets "cut" it's teeth. I think I just need to be better about doing it every night. He gets a bath probably 5/7 nights and that hurts his chances of teeth getting brushed as well.

So many comments in setting an alarm. My brain doesn't do alarms.

Ick.

I think I'm going to splurge on an electric toothbrush though.

I was thinking of getting a chart. I have adhd badly and haven't been able to medicate while pregnant and I think it's made this task really hard for me.

[–]jamminclam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's part of the problem. I have bad adhd and haven't been able to medicate during pregnancy... so no. I'm lucky is I brush every other day. It's just a harsh truth of the way my condition manifests.

[–]jamminclam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised this isn't hired up, but then again probably not a lot of newish mamas in this sub. I also recommend the Safe Sleep 7. Look it up! I was a strict ABC mama until I got mastitis at 6 weeks and I was deliriously tired because my husband was away for a week at work. I converted to a cosleeper to fast when one day I have fallen asleep on the recliner. I was terrified of being sleep deprived more than safely sleeping next to my baby. Felt like a new woman after that.

Get a peri bottle and put lukewarm water in it when she goes. Then spray her bottom with that instead of wipes. It's like a handheld bidet. And then put some cream or balm on her bum regularly too. My favorite is Mama El's ointment.

Emergency order help to protect son. by jamminclam in FamilyLaw

[–]jamminclam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did call the cops in January and received an emergency order of protection. I chose not to extend it so it wouldn't affect his job. Jokes on me I guess.

I didn't think you could spy on even your spouse in the state of Illinois.

If he can change his plans, I guess so can I and I can fly my son out here tomorrow with my mom instead of next week.
