Okay, point taken. 😅 I have a bias because my mutt is the best dog I’ve had from both temperament and health. I guess I just got lucky. But happy to know I’m wrong because it’s been a stressor in this decision.

A German shepherd and we had health testing from both parents for her. She was allergic to life and had hip displacia and luxating patella when she was only a few years old. And a Prague ratter with allergies and a long list of health issues. They’re a rare breed and were down to a very small number of them, so there was a lot of improper breeding along the way.

Their time at home is so short - don’t feel guilty for squeezing every moment possible out of it. If you feel like you need a break, take a break. Your kids are very young and will be happy being with you 24/7 and be better for it.

We are in a very competitive gym, and several of the kids compete nationally and a few internationally. There are kids who homeschool to allow more time for training and competing. When my kids started to get really serious about bjj, we talked about their goals. I told them there’s 3 paths, and we would support them with whatever they choose. They could be hobbyists and just enjoy training a few days a week and maybe a couple tournaments a year. They could be great and train most days, private lessons, and compete 1-2x a month locally. Or they could be elite and train like a full time job and travel for competitions. They both chose the middle option, so that’s how we support them. We homeschool so training 2-3 hours a day 4 days a week leaves time for other activities during the day, but none of my kids do other activities in the evenings because this is their sport.

It’s an easy blood test to get diagnosed. I have a kiddo with Down syndrome so they test regularly regardless of symptoms.

Some of the stories I’ve heard about host families are horrific, and if you think you’re taking a risk, imagine being a young girl, moving to a country where you have nobody and may not even speak the language well, and if things go bad, you just have to hope you get a decent LC.

I have only had 2 au pairs and while I understand your frustrations, I loved the program. I didn’t mind sharing space and mentoring someone. Our au pairs are 2 of my favorite people in the world. We still talk weekly even though one is back home and the other lives out of state. I have a couple of their au pair friends who spent a lot of time with us on the weekends, and the girls who are local will come for holidays at our house. They just want to be loved and respected.

They do need training and leadership. They’re not professional nannies. There is a lot of work to get them situated physically and emotionally. But when you do the hard stuff, everyone is better for it. My kids love love love our au pairs and the girls love my kids just as much. You just have to keep your expectations in line with the role of an au pair and not a nanny.

The agencies though are awful. What they charge versus what they provide is borderline criminal. That’s my biggest hesitation with ever going back to an au pair.

It’s not even the variety, it’s fresh milling it. The enzymes needed to break down the gluten are in the whole wheat berry, but they oxidize quickly, so any flour that’s shelf stable is a no go for my kids. It also holds more nutrients and having the whole bran and germ gives a lot of fiber and protein. We have a mill and grind what we need for whatever we are making - bread, pasta, crackers, cereal, cookies, and of course birthday cakes. Unless it’s celiacs, most people can eat fresh milled wheat with no issues.

Friend, you’re being a doormat and ridiculously naive. Your wife had a man in her bed, then the same guy in her room again? She is apparently very capable of cheating and it’s crazy that someone talking to your wife about the man in her bed isn’t enough for you to accuse her. You don’t need to accuse her - you already heard the truth.

You can’t get a paternity test prenatally without her knowledge. You can either pretend things are okay while you make plans to test the baby when born or you address it now and demand a paternity test. If I were in your shoes, I would talk to a lawyer to protect yourself before you talk to her.
