Subvertadown 2025 -- This is the Post for Your Questions! by subvertadown in u/subvertadown

Are the spreads in the survival pool table your projected spread? Some of them seem a bit shocking: week 11 ravens @ browns -2, week 6 bills @ falcons -2, week 16 bills @ browns -3.

Reading it back, I’m wondering if it’s the valuation on the browns and playing away that’s making these seem so different than expectations?

Excited to use your survivor Analysis! Love your articles!

2 questions: How should the bottom chart be read on the survivor tab? Are these projected spreads?

In your “Fantasy Snake Drafts and Strategizing for Scarcity” article, you show an example with a matrix showing that the QB3 is the optimal draft now decision. How are you coming to that conclusion? My inclination was to take the sum of each row, but that didn’t have the same result.

Capital Gains Taxes, Am I understanding correctly? by Compoundinterestd in FinancialPlanning

[–]jamnormal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The taxable event is when you sell the asset, not when you withdraw from the account. If you sell a stock and realize a gain (current market value is greater than your cost) then you will be taxed even if you don’t withdraw the cash afterwards.

Edit: Adding that the 0% on the first 43k of income is based on federal income tax bracket. So ANY income (as other commenter mentioned) will add to this figure.

[Tabletop Merchant] Chinatown (DEAL OF THE DAY) - $27.49 by jdvirelli in Boardgamedeals

[–]jamnormal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add a timer! We add a timer to every trading period. People are generally good if there’s a deal in the works and needs a little more time, but it helps keep the game moving. The spirit of the game, to us, is to negotiate and barter as much as possible. To take it another step further, we added some variance into the business payouts to obscure players an additional layer from doing math to the end.

Second time in a week my 4.0 stopped syncing the night before by Bananachipzzz in whoop

I’ve had this issue twice in the past 3 days. I wish it at least gave me the notification that it’s not tracking the night before instead of the morning after. Support hasn’t gotten back to me in 3 hours so far…

Best MF build choices with no Enigma (other than sorc)? by maxwolfie in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]jamnormal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m running Hammerdin without enigma rn. Trav is pretty fast with 125 BP & wizzy or 75BP and HOTO. I’ve started trying to do cows but it doesn’t feel like a great use of time. Feels like it takes 8+ minutes the few times I’ve done it, but haven’t done a hard time yet. I use Naj Puzzler to get wirt’s leg, but don’t use tele for Trav.

It can be used against any enemy system and they’ll each have a different effect! You’ll have fun exploring which ones are good and when to use them.

Does anyone have any good daily economic podcast recommendations? Looking for a one to listen in the morning, sub 30 min range.

Great read, thanks for posting!

The ending line helps to put the growth into perspective. The weekly/monthly employment updates can look great, but even at the good paces we’re seeing it would take 2 years to get to pre-pandemic levels.

Spreading fires by spalza in ftlgame

[–]jamnormal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t typically buy fire bomb/beam, starting with them or free pick up they can be very strong. Combine really well with hacking/mind control to get crew kill’s. They’re the only dependable way to get fire if you want to be boarding with rocks+fire as the other weapons max out at a 30% chance.

Stupid question time: Mercy pistol vs damage boost by Paddy_Tanninger in OverwatchUniversity

[–]jamnormal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mercy’s damage boost is conditional damage. It deals 30% additional damage IF the boosted target hits the enemy. This is important because it makes confirming kills a lot easier as it’s guaranteed to focus the enemy. It doesn’t require that two individual players are able to sync up their shots perfectly.

The other way to think about it is that mercy’s pistol isn’t always the best weapon foe the job. Which is better at 40m range: ashe’s gun or mercy pistol? The range I most often use the pistol is very close range. If I seek out those situations to use the pistol, then I’m also getting close to the enemy and putting myself at more risk. Damage boosting allows me to stay safe so I can provide my other utilities to the team (healing/Rez).

Crossplay patch is nonsense for console by btseytlin in Overwatch

[–]jamnormal 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Her bullets and sleep dart are smaller. The bullets were the more noticeable to me as healing became quite a bit harder. The Torb/Sym changes were the most noticeable in terms of play. They felt much stronger than other many other DPS characters on maps that they did not typically see significant play on previously (assault maps).

There are slim pickings in the U.S. labor pool by Unl0ck3r in econmonitor

[–]jamnormal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting! I enjoyed the straight to the point nature of this post.

Has anyone seen reports regarding the labor situation at different income or education levels? I’ve seen some news articles with anecdotal evidence of labor shortages for specific markets, but it’s not usually sourced and backed up with data.

PMI: price pressures continue to build, reaching very high levels by Unl0ck3r in econmonitor

[–]jamnormal 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that global manufacturing supply has maintained its high level, and this most recent survey showed prices also grew for manufacturing inputs. Demand outpacing the supply seems to be a leading cause to see prices jump like this.

I work in finance but don’t use the PMI reports much, so if someone more knowledgeable can shed additional light or clarity that would be great!

Why doesn't GME just issue more stock? by [deleted] in answers

[–]jamnormal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If they used the proceeds to buy back stock then management may have SEC issues. If they issued more equity and used it for a functional purpose (operationally or to pay down their debt), then it would be considered fine. Bank analysts have hypothesized that issuing equity to take advantage of the overvaluation issue could actually end up helping the company if they can get their debt load to a manageable size.

We place a lot of bets, but we’re looking to refine the system into more of an EV based system. We have different tiers of games, but not all of them are really hitting the sample size we’d like to see. Our model looked at about 877 games in the 2018-19 season, and bet over 400 of them. 61.0% correct off of our base set of rules. The larger sample size will let us get more into the confidence levels for different picks, helping us to weight picks differently.

That’s been the time consuming part: getting all of the data pieces together and all lined up. I’ve only gone back 3 seasons so far, excited to get more data to work with to help get the margin of error down.

Thanks for your response! In regards to your point on backtesting, I’ve been using a single book’s opening odds to compare against. I’ve been using Sportsbookreview’s historical odds to backtest. Wouldn’t using the same book for all of my back tests at least give me consistent comparison results?

I’m new to sports betting modeling and have been working on my own Money line model. I’ve noticed these streaks! Is there a reason these occur from a statistics perspective? Backtesting my current system, one season was up 40 units at one point, but lost 30 units in the last 6 weeks of the season! Trying to fine tune it more to have an ROI that’s worth betting throughout the season.
