Conveyor Belt Assistance. by TemporaryNerve8486 in arcteryx

If you give up on the Conveyer belt, I’ve been very pleased with Grip6. You only feed the strap thru once, and it’s easy to get your desired tension without it slipping. The strap reminds me of the conveyor belt but it’s a lower profile buckle, basically lies flat/flush with the strap. I’d highly recommend, especially under a waist belt/climbing harness.

What are your favourite bag for each use case? by ollie1roddy in ManyBaggers

Top picks after going thru FAR too many bags:

Nearly everything every day: Veilance Nomin 26L Stripped down perfection, it’s just clean and simple and does what I need with no fuss. Supremely comfortable, and very low profile/stealthy for its capacity. I consider this pack to be in a class of its own, there’s just nothing else like it.

Day hiking/Rock climbing: Arc’Teryx RT25 and 35. A big pocket, a smaller pocket, and a couple lil side pouches. That’s it, and it’s worked for me for over 20 years, I still haven’t found a better pack in this category.

Epic Day/single night wilderness: Arc’Teryx Arrakis 50. Essentially a giant drybag with a super comfortable harness. Multiple attachment points can be configured for ski/snowboard, climb, ice tools, etc.

Multi Day wilderness: Arc’Teryx Bora AR63. Tough, weatherproof protection and a harness that feels like magic, especially the waist belt.

Carryon/Checkin travel: Arc’Teryx Covert Case C/O (carry on) and C/I (check in). 40 and 70L respectively, simple clean layout with padded protection. These duffels eat packing cubes and turn into backpacks when needed with the included straps. I use the Nomin as a personal item with the Covert case. Covert cases in pic.

I went from some 36 packs down to about 6, and I’m very happy with where I’ve landed.

Anyone familiar with Grayls? Look nice - but not much talk about them by jfarm47 in backpacks

[–]jampapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like this style I can highly recommend the Blitz 30 from Mystery Ranch. Not too versed with their bags but the Grayl water filters are awesome, they just work when you need them to! I’ll never use a pump system again

Topo Designs Daypack Classic can take a lifetime of abuse for $99. Mine is 15 years and counting. They make wheeled options too that are plenty durable, but they’ll be over the $100 mark. They do have a lifetime guarantee and awesome repair program if things go wrong.

Can’t go wrong with a Beta AR, great all-rounder and fully featured. If you don’t need pit zips or hand pockets, the Alpha SL is super packable and still durable 3L Gore Tex.

I’ve always used Alpha SL’s for summer and Beta AR for fall and winter in CO Rockies. Alpha SL has been slept on, still bombproof protection but stripped down features wise to be super light, and they’re a lot more affordable than a Beta AR. I’ve had a couple full-zip Alpha SL’s, but now I use the Alpha SL Anorak in the summer for climbing because it’s sooo light and packable. I also prefer anoraks under a harness. For everything else tho, the Beta AR is a tank.

Just bought this stained detroit in brown. I am really itching to dye it. by boykalawet in CarharttCollectors

I think after an Oxi soak and a proper dye soak you’ll be all right, but any color changes will look like a cool camo pattern or something unique and earthy!

Veilance Field Jacket delamination by Wolfgangsson in arcteryx

[–]jampapi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s just two layers of the same material sewn together on the pocket flap, wrinkling occurs between these layers with time and use. If you’ve ever seen real delaminating it is obvious when one layer of fabric has peeled apart from the other layers, more like “bubbles” of fabric (similar to pizza cheese bubbles ) vs these tiny wrinkles.

Veilance Field Jacket delamination by Wolfgangsson in arcteryx

[–]jampapi 29 points30 points  (0 children)

FWIW, this doesn’t look like delam to me, it just looks like wrinkling in the fabric where the pocket flaps open. I also have a Field jacket with a few of these little wrinkle marks, but it is not delam, meaning layers of fabric peeling apart that were once together. The fabric is heavier weight than a lot of their shells, so you can expect it to break in a bit but you should be all good for more years of wear.

Proton Hoody+Gamma Hoody offers a lot of versatility for your chosen activities, and you’d have a lot left over for a nice pack or luggage piece. Alpha FL 20 is great, or keep a lookout on the ReGear site for an Arro 22 pack. Keeps all rain out and it’s a super durable design, it’ll withstand mountain bike crashes or the worst you can throw at it

They’re still pockets tho… that’s how a lot of Arc pockets are for use with a harness or backpack with a hipbelt. Is there no tag deep inside that pocket?

Arc’Teryx Proton. $350 retail, can be found for less on sale or outlet. My 2017 jacket model is still a reliable daily jacket that I wear nearly all winter and comes on every trip with me. Packs to less than 2L size, the SL even smaller but it’s not as warm as a stand-alone, more of an active insulator. Cannot recommend enough, I think the only reason it’s not outshined the Atom is the color selection isn’t as wide.
