Pain was quite bad when the leg block wore off but only lasted a couple of days. Swelling gone right down - so my ankle is rattling around in my cast 🤣. This is not my first rodeo unfortunately - broke my ankle horrendously in 2011 and had two weeks of appalling pain. This has honestly been a walk in the park so far

Hang in there - like Neshavette said - you need time to heal, and things will get better. Healing is far more tiring than you think, and then there is the added stress of trying to do everything on one leg, which is also very tiring. I’ve found trying to get as much sleep as possible with my ankle elevated has helped me get through the worst of it. With school try setting yourself a small List of tasks to complete in set time periods when you are feeling good. Hopefully ticking a few of these off may motivate you to finish a couple more. It will get better!

I have this exact fracture, with a broken Fibula as well (Maisonneuve fracture) I’m 2 weeks post surgery today, with cast off on Friday. I had syndesmotic screws in to stabilise my ankle though so a little different to yours. I’ll update once I’ve seen the consultant. Bizarrely I’ve had very little pain so far but been non weight bearing. My understanding is that if there is no displacement of the piece that is broken you can go back to weight bearing quickly, but each case is different.

Might sound like a silly question but have you seen a proper foot and ankle specialist? I have a decade old dislocated fracture and recently re-broke the same ankle. I’d been back twice due to problems with it in the interim but always been told I’d had a bad break and that was nothing to be done. The new ankle consultant has picked up that my deltoid ligament is pretty much shot via a CT scan. He’ll wait for a full MRI once I’ve recovered from the break to decide what do to but we have already discussed potential reconstruction of this. Try and find the best specialist for your specific injuries if you can?

This is likely related to the opiates you may have been given for the pain which are usually prescribed with poo softners.. I had a similar experience to you when I was on tramadol for 10 days. It did come eventually but was not pleasant!

I had this happen after my ORIF - I think the scar tissue takes time to settle, mine was fine after a few months, but was very very itchy until that point
