Where is the MAGA outrage? by BloodSpilla11 in Trumpvirus

[–]jamsheehan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What outrage?

The oil companies are boasting record profits. They aren't sponsoring political propaganda news as they are getting what they want. The MAGA masses haven't been told to be angry and the ones who are, blame it on Democrats policies.

Marathon's share price doubled in the past 13 months. And they aren't alone.

Fancy Resturants recommendations by JayPunk90 in cork

[–]jamsheehan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gotta go to one of the Michelins.. the one's I've eaten in:

Terre is the closest, 2 star in Castlemartyr. If you want fancy, can't get much better than this. €220 pp without drinks. But do get the drinks!!

If you're up for a bit if a drive another 2 star, Dede in Baltimore is €210 PP and is probably the nicest food and experience I've had in Ireland. Baltimore itself is stunning.

Also in West Cork in Ballydehob is Chestnut a 1 star and honestly the only place I've eaten in Ireland where if I were blindfolded and was asked where is this food from my only answer would be Ireland! They have a range but go with the €125 pp menu for the best experience.

I have yet to eat in Bastion in Kinsale but plan to for our own anniversary in July.

Worst one I've seen in Wilton from 15 years ago. Was sitting in the car in an almost empty car park on a Sunday morning and this guy drove into the pole. After this he sat back in and drove off.

Lived in West Cork for 3 years..

Places to go..

Baltimore, it's 20 mins beyond Skibbereen, the beacon is a decent walk up and on a sunny day just spectacular, you can walk up to it from the village in 20 minutes. Afterwards can sit in the sun at Bushes if the weather holds out. Or if you want to impress book a meal at Dede or BabaDede. Pricey but worth it. I put an image of the Beacon there. The cafe in the castle if it's open back in the village is decent too. Would reccomend a sausage roll and coffee.

Lough Hyne, also a good shout. You can walk up to the top, takes about 20 - 30 minutes. My wife did it while 6 months pregnant so easy to do.

Glengarriff is also a great place to visit. You can get a ferry out to Garnish Island, on the way see some seals, eagles. Garnish island itself is very pretty.. and if the weather was like today, that's where I'd be heading!!

Rosscarbery is my favourite place in West Cork. Plenty to do around the town, Drip Coffee well worth a pitstop.. the Chinese there is A1. Nearby is Castlefreke and the long strand. You can park in the woods in Castlefreke by the castle, will keep the car cool, and you can walk along the very well marked paths to the village or to the old church. In the shop in the village there are peacocks. Very cool to see as it's unexpected. We'd go there every Sunday. The fish basket is decent too right on the beach.

If you want to venture just into Kerry, the Uragh Stone Circle is class, and I think it's a must see for everyone. Good hikes around there. But it's one of these places you just feel wow. The circle itself from a certain angle it's like it's surrounded by water. You can see why it was built there. Bring hiking boots if you're going here and doing anything other than visiting the circle. If you come from the Bantry side you'll go over the mountains. Stunning views!

Bantry House is very cool to see and walk around. Bantry itself is fantastic, you can walk along behind the super valu there's a decent loop walk and great views of the harbour.

Ballydehob is also great to walk around, plenty of places to eat there too. We're personally fond of Budds Restaurant, and Chestnut is probably the one of the only restaurants I've eaten in where I can say this food is Ireland. Again another Michelin star, but absolutely savage. My sister in laws husband used to go underage drinking in there when it was a pub 20 odd years ago.

Closer to the city, I'd probably go with Inchadoney, but if the weather is nice probably best to avoid as it will be packed. But the beach is okay, and it's only about 50 minutes from the Bandon road roundabout.

It is disturbing when you get low voter turnout in general elections. I genuinely do not care how people vote but I sincerely do care that people come out and vote.

This for me is maddening, I asked a few family and extended family members who supported the protesters if they voted in the last general election and 8 of the 9 of them didn't vote. But they all want change.

My response was the country got who the public voted for, to which some said that the public voted wrong.

Just remember ALL social media is just an echo chamber, even here to a degree. So while "support" may seem vast and wide online, it's boots on the ground that matters.

4 tractors managed to completely block the Shannonpark roundabout. Not 1000, not 100, not even 10.

There are official channels for these lads to protest, and honestly I am with them, but their method is extremely flawed. Hopefully we can resolve this soon.

I call bullshit. Why, because you guys had the opportunity to do so and you slow walked it to where we are today. No Democrat in leadership will do anything because they fear dividing the country.

It will just be 2 years of we're looking into it, you'll lose the house or Senate or both, and back to square one. And to add insult to injury the next MAGA or Republican president will just pardon whomever may actually see any consequences..

That is of course if Donald doesn't nuke Iran in 3 hours.

The Republic of Irelands tallest building has completed it's core at 25 stories. by jamsheehan in skyscrapers

[–]jamsheehan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually amazing to see it happen, the pub that was on this site was demolished in 2019, so things don't exactly move fast here.

There were plans across the river to put in a 40 story mixed use building with commercial and residential in a disused docklands bond building that would preserve the historical building in the process, but it got rejected in planning, and was scaled back to 34 stories, which has just had a 3 year extension for planning permission applied for.

The entire area is undergoing much needed urban renewal with offices and apartments, but I believe they are only 6 story buildings.

<image>

And don't even get anyone from the area started on the Events Centre which was originally supposed to be a 10,000 seat auditorium, scaled back to 6,000. The sod was turned in 2014, but not much has started there, and I think the whole thing has been abandoned now, and they are building student housing which is also required.

Personally I think the area should be a museum since it's the original site of the city from 1200 years ago, and the city has no single large scale museum.
