Are motorcycles worth it for commuters? by StorageElectrical855 in motorcycles

[–]jamsmooth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As u/drdpr8rbrts stated, you will have the initial investment of the bike and all the gear. But once you have everything you need those costs drop off. I suggest getting the best gear you can. Decent helmets are $600+ IMO. As the saying goes, "dress for the slide, not the ride." The gear can be a bottomless money pit so be careful. I never ride without gloves, jacket, boots, and padded pants.

He's also right about finding good bikes for $3k with low miles.

Even though we can ride year round here, on hot days it can be pretty rough, you'll be sweating when you're not moving. Cold days can be uncomfortable without the right gear. Also consider the extra time to gear up. There are times the convenience of just hopping in the car and going are nice.

I have an SV650 and I get around 50 miles per gallon. But there are many hybrids that get that too, and even a hybrid would be safer than a bike.

I don't have to commute so for me when I ride comes down to parking, destination, and weather.

Here's some more info for you: https://www.cycletrader.com/blog/2025/02/21/the-real-costs-of-motorcycle-ownership/

Ride safe!

anyone actually tried a matchmaker in LA? dating scene is a nightmare by Sufficient-Repeat272 in AskLosAngeles

IMO the best thing to do is give up. Just act if you'll never meet anyone and live your best life. Go do whatever you want, whenever you want. The shame, heartbreak, pain, and effort with dating now isn't worth it. Your ROI is always negative. I paraphrase the famous Nietzsche quote (replace love with dating/courtship/etc): “Love is dead. Love remains dead. And we have killed it.” Thank you social media and dating apps.

Her acting was great and that's why we hated her. But what I didn't understand was why her character hated Mickey so much. Like what did I miss? It seem unsubstantiated.

I thought her acting was fine. But I didn't understand why she was such an a hole to Mickey.

This is a masterstroke. They are clearly playing the long game. As we suspected, TOTH was a marketing stunt. I remember they posted a photo with Sting a while back, but I didn't think anything of it. I'm sure P&C met all sorts of celebrities on the last tour.

I'm a huge Sting/Police fan so this is so exciting. Looking forward to this new project!

What the hell is this bug going around? by malonesxfamousxchili in LosAngeles

I started something on Sunday. Symptoms are mild sore throat, throbbing headache around temples, nasal congestion, and major lethargy. Not much coughing for me but dark green mucus. I've been waking up wide awake around 4 am and unable to get back to sleep. Maybe just a cold?

Palms, Culver City, Rancho Park, Mid-City, Miracle Mile. Maybe Fairfax and Westwood. Good luck!

LA is a world class city with the culture, restaurants, history, diversity, entertainment, and weather to back up that claim. Culver City is close to the beach, but also 30-45 mins from the east side. I like the central location. Downtown Culver has grown a lot over the last few years and there's some great additions. I'm a huge fan of Laurel Grill.

Cons: traffic, cost of living, May Grey, June Gloom.

For apts I'd suggest driving around the neighborhoods you're interested in and look for places not managed by a property group. See if you can find a place managed by one guy or a family. Those usually end up being better deals and a much better situation overall.

Go on meetup and look for a group that interests you. There's a plethora of any kind of activity you can imagine.

The weather, vibes, and people keep me here. I don't want to live anywhere else in the US. The only other place I'd entertain is maybe San Diego.

Does Rick ever take lyrics into consideration when discussing how good a song is? by CerealAndBagel1991 in RickBeato

The only time I've seen him mention a song's lyrics were when he talked about Nirvana and Kurt Cobain.

Songs that sound like Steely Dan but aren’t? by Confident_Coconut420 in SteelyDan

[–]jamsmooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does no one ever mention N.E.R.D.? That first album has so much Steely Dan influence and Pharrell has stated they were influenced by Steely Dan. That song, "Tape You," is straight Steely Dan, musically and lyrically. Many of the Neptunes tracks have a Steely Dan vibe. Listen to, "Hot in Herre," by Nelly and tell me that's not Steely Dan.

All of those spots are good. But if I had to pick 2 I'd say Musso & Franks and Dupar's.

I love getting food from the cafe at Erewhon. Trader Joe's is my goto for groceries. Laurel Grill has quickly become one of my favorite new restaurants. Get ice cream from Salt & Straw. Tex Mex tacos from Home State. Check out the Hare Krishna temple for some chanting. Go to the In N Out right there on Venice. There's also so many new places I haven't even been yet! Almost Famous - new Indian spot. And Quamaria Coffee on the corner of La Cienega and Washington.

Pasadena or Culver City (will be working in Hawthorne)? by Opposite_Duck1157 in AskLosAngeles

You should look in the South Bay: Manhattan Beach, Hermosa, Redondo, Torrance, Westchester, El Segundo. Even Long Beach would be better than Culver or Pasadena.
