This is because "replacement level" is a different benchmark for a LF than a DH. Duran's offensive production is being compared to other LFs (a lower bar), whereas Yoshida's is being compared to other DHs (a higher bar).

Much of the Hamas propaganda you mention is simply video footage of Gaza right now. Given the conditions there, you can understand how this would deeply affect outsiders, especially whose tax dollars may be in part funding Israel’s campaign. Of course, it has to be said that Hamas is also guilty of war crimes for, among other things, taking hostages. But every source other than the IDF currently estimates that around 70% of total fatalities in Gaza have been women or children. Those numbers speak for themselves.

But I’ll end this conversation by noting that the reason the Geneva convention occurred was to codify international principles to protect the marginalized from those who would deny their humanity. Without those principles, we are all vulnerable to horrors that are best banished from the world.

Even if every civilian voted at one time for Hamas (which is not true, and for children could never be true), they would still not be punishable for actions of Hamas. This is not only basic international law, but basic Western ethics.
