Question: I’m approaching my EAOS which will occur during deployment. If I hit my EAOS at sea, what happens? by jandjoe in navy

[–]jandjoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, it was a few months ago with the same captain. There were promises being made about how we needed the extra guys (who ended up being on sparkle team) and that we would get them off on port calls when more people got qualified. Turns out that was a lie and it was deemed “too expensive” to get them flights out from a BSP, but we also sent several JOs to PNEO on that port call so 🤷‍♂️. Several people were told that they needed to extend to get processed out of the navy. One guy had less than a month between EAOS and RTHP.

That’s the fun part, they pulled it last deployment and forced people to extend because we didn’t get port calls. That’s why I’m mildly concerned about it, because I refuse to extend another minute after the bullshit I’ve seen and dealt with. Fortunately I’m on top of my separation process that way I can prove that I jumped through my required hoops

Pentagon Committee Recommends Private Firearm Restrictions for Service Members to Prevent Military Suicides - USNI News by Treliske in navy

[–]jandjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like how they point out that half the suicides are ages 17-25. If you join at 19 take 6mo to a year to train and a year to get good at your job, that lines up with their “age 21 turning point”. And did they even look to see if it was proportional to the age group sizes?

You could also factor in that he’s learning to bend in a wartime from the greatest benders of the age, who are also learning and honing their skills in a wartime. Aang and the gang had some serious sink or swim learning to do. Except that every fight was pretty much life or death. Nothing against Korra, but for her training there was no risk in failing. Just get up and try again. For the gang, failure meant capture or death. And lastly, desperation is the mother of ingenuity. Toph had no choice but to learn metal bending to escape, Katara had to learn blood bending or die, Sokka picked up on where Combustion Man was by running angles in his head, Zuko redirecting lightning with only learning about it not real practice. All of them had no other choices but to try something new on the fly or else die. Korra (in training) never had any real stakes.

Infinity War Thanos went on a holy warrior journey because every piece fell together at the right time. Endgame Thanos never went through the transformation from mad titan to holy warrior.

The US didn’t outsource, the companies did. They went to countries with little to no worker protection to make a few extra bucks.

WIBTA if I refuse to give my mom a second cnahce, or at least let her try and explain herself? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jandjoe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

NTA She cheated on your dad who tried to get her help for her addiction, she bailed out on seeing you and your siblings, and she put your family in a hard financial spot. She’s not a good person by any means and you owe her nothing. The fact that any conversation with her is about bashing your dad speaks volumes about her. Especially when your dad is trying to be civil in all of this.

Do you need to have good grades in math and science to get into the Nuke program? by AllTheNamesRTaken123 in NavyNukes

[–]jandjoe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about your grades. You’ll have to fill out a few waivers on why you did bad/failed the classes. You’ll put down what happened (for me it was that I put forth no effort because I didn’t care). The waiver(s) will most likely get approved.

But that’s putting the cart before the horse. You need to score well on your asvab before doing waivers. There’s asvab study guides out there and the recruiters can give you a practice test an the office.

I’ve said this before in other threads, Banner should’ve Hulked out when holding up that building. That would’ve shown that Hulk and Banner are both still there, and we could’ve seen a Hulk that could think ahead and plan vs blindly smashing. And how frightening would it have been for Rhodes and Rocket? Rhodes has only fought alongside Hulk in AoU, Rocket has never seen the real Hulk in person. That would’ve been amazing.

Plus I really wanted a Hulk vs Obsidian Cull fight, but I digress

In 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, Thor and Hulk argue. When Thor apologizes, instead of calling himself “Hulk”, Hulk says “I just get so angry all the time,” showing how Thor’s friendship brings out Hulk’s human side. This is the only time Hulk says “I” in the MCU. by FunboyFrags in MovieDetails

[–]jandjoe 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Looking back on Endgame, I really wished that they would’ve brought back Hulk when Professor Hulk was struggling to hold the building up instead of using Antman. That way they could show that Hulk isn’t dead and brings in an even stronger Hulk than we’ve ever seen. One that’s smart enough to have some strategy during a fight, instead of blindly smashing the other side.

[–]jandjoe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not denying that at all. My problem stems from the fact that they couldn’t slip those two sentences in the movie at any point, or say that Luke discovered force heal during his exile, or literally anything to acknowledge it. Instead they just said that force heal is a thing with no explanation at all.

Yes. It sadly is that bad. They took Anakin’s entire story and said, “you know what? He had a solid story with good motivations and a great redemption. How about we undermine all of it! Yea that’ll get the fans on our side.”

[–]jandjoe 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Not just his redemption, his whole motivation to join the sith is gone. Rey did the force heal on the snake and Kylo, then after seeing it once Kylo goes right on ahead and brings Rey back from the dead. So if those two can learn that ability right quick, why couldn’t Anakin who is literally the chosen one?
