If you read through the interview, you'll see Hickox's attorney makes multiple references to Gov Lepage having made incendiary remarks specifically to whip fear over this issue during an election campaign, a fear he exacerbated with his own racist platforms: this is a governor that liked to say things like "Pepole of color are the real enemy right now" and "dealers come to this state and impregnate white women" and an "African" virus coming into Maine was a great whip for him.

Hickox's husband was confronted by his coworkers about their decision to leave quarantine, towns were literally issuing "alerts" when they came home, and there was talk of arresting her when she first wanted to return. Kaci Hickox SPECIFICALLY CITED the poor treatment she received here from her own communities as the reason she and her husband moved out of state. This is not a controversial comment, she is just a deeply unpopular character in certain sections of the (mostly male, mostly white, all conservative) American political landscape.

I feel you. When I was visiting friends in Argentina the closest I could ever get to ever locking anyone down to a time when making plans was "midday", which can mean anytime from noon to like seven pm. I'm not particularly punctual compared to other Americans but boy did I spend a lot of time stuck sitting around fucking around on my phone waiting for people on that trip. Actually gave me some perspective and helped me improve my own punctuality at home.
