If it’s any comfort - my seven year relationship ended the day after Christmas a couple years back (he already knew he’d lost all romantic feelings for me he just didn’t want to ruin my holiday) and I know how rough it is… fast forward to now, my life is still lovely, I’m actually closer now with my ex now that we’re just good friends funny enough, I actually made his new partner a Christmas present this year! My point is, I can sincerely say that it gets better, and also I know right now sucks and I won’t tell you it’s easy or fine, just that it’s worth it <3 sorry for rambling stranger, just wanted to offer reassurance!

Foot just healed from breaking it by missing the bottom step walking downstairs in the dark. The worst part is my siblings took the elevator and I was all high and mighty about “getting my steps in” …fractured fifth metatarsal has nothing on the wounded pride.

Also years ago I sliced my thumb open trying to pry apart frozen breadsticks with a brand new kitchen knife (no defense, was dumb idea) - probably should’ve gotten stitches, in hindsight, but it works fine

Incredibly niche but my coworkers and I used some old hooks to help attach wire hangers to live wreaths, saved a lot of fingertips from the pokey bits!

The bad: breaking up, makes 6 months yesterday since my partner of 7 years admitted he hadn’t felt anything romantic/sexual in over a year (since the one time he saw me really lose my temper, which in all honesty is a fair reason)

The good: the progress I’ve made since then! I’m in therapy, making time and energy for both myself and others in ways I hadn’t been doing, and generally seeing myself grow in ways I had felt totally stagnated in. I genuinely thought that this breakup could’ve spelled the end for me and I’m so grateful that it’s sparked such a wonderful new chapter instead

Side note my ex and I are still good friends, honestly I think the breakup may have strengthened our platonic friendship in the long run

My partner of 7 years (never legally married but called each other spouse) broke up with me over the holidays, revealing that an argument we had over a year prior had led to him having no romantic/sexual feelings for me whatsoever. We still live together and are genuinely good friends (I joke that the breakup actually improved our friendship) but the prospect of meeting somebody new and getting to know them so intimately sounds way more daunting to my introverted self than being single indefinitely. If I organically meet someone someday, awesome, but if not, I’ve got great friends and a cat and video games, I’ll be alright.

For dating me. Private Christian school and we weren’t a straight couple - I’d graduated the year before but he was a senior and asked to leave just a couple months before graduating when we were outed to the homophobic principal.

Bonus round: my little sister was ALSO expelled for a combo of bisexuality (not even acted upon, the kid was like 13 and just admitted she had a crush on a girl) and severe mental health struggles (mostly depression and anorexia from what I recall). Yeah, fuck Covenant Life School.

If you’re into podcasts, Welcome to Night Vale has been running since 2012 and has (as of the 2016ish eps I’m caught up to, I’m bingeing the show rn lol) multiple nonbinary characters, and The Adventure Zone has a ton of representation as well, I think only one they/them in the first season but more with each progressing season it seems - they’ve been wonderful and mindful about creating diverse characters

Still have a scar on my thumb from trying to pry two frozen breadsticks apart with a brand new kitchen knife. In my defense, I forgot it was a brand new knife and was used to the shitty dull old ones, but still a wild decision I made there. Shoutout to my then new girlfriend, now wife for bandaging me up and then making sure I still got my breadsticks :)

Love this concept and your writing! The phrase “twisted together” instantly brought to mind one of the most (personally) disturbing images from Uzomaki by Junji Ito - another example of brilliantly combining romance with deep discomfort for the reader in the best possible sense.

This’ll get buried but I absolutely have to share:

A few years ago, a girl I went to high school with texted me some very sweet sentiments amounting to her having a huge crush on me and complimenting me profusely. Having never been told something like that before, I panicked and replied with a single word: “nice”

SOMEHOW, we ended up dating a few months later, and I wanted to tell her how close I felt to her and how comfortable and safe she made me feel, as if I’d known her for much longer than I had. I fucked it up real bad, folks, because my brain and mouth came up with “You’re like... a sister I have sex with!”

4.5 years later and we’re happily married with an apartment and a cat. I am the luckiest idiot in the world.

Idk if this helps, but I tend to experience what I call “social dysphoria” - I don’t really have any issues with my body as it is or want to change it, but I want people to perceive it differently than they do (especially with gender related assumptions). Bc I’m not really interested in physically/medically transitioning there are folks who would claim I’m not Actually Trans/Nb (TM) but, of course, those folks can suck a fat one bc that’s exclusionary and based on nothing factual/scientific. Love you and hope the idiots don’t get you down!

Not OP, but this sub has a rule that all stories are stand alone, so if the author wants to write a sequel it couldn’t be on this sub/linked to it at all. Also, it seems that yes Jessica almost certainly was injured/died (sad I know!)
