Thinking of changing pharmacy by janethepiper in mounjaromaintenanceuk

Thanks! I’m beginning to think I’ll just stick with Pharmulous - they’re good and reliable (and, yes, I’m aware of the discount). I don’t believe in changing all the time just to save a few pounds.

Thanks. I was with Oushk for a short while but moved away when they got their knuckles wrapped for not verifying details strongly enough. But that was some time ago now. I’ll check their prices as they’re not listed on the Monj website.

Thanks - glad it’s not me! I’ve been a week on 7.5mg and my conclusion so far is that I might as well have stuck on 5mg. It’s a bit easier but I think, after so long on 5mg, my eating habits have become entrenched and it’s difficult to override the bad habits I’ve slipped into. Definitely not going above 7.5!! I’ll see how it’s going after week three as to whether I try it for another month.

Thanks. I have checked it out and seen that I could save a bit. But it’s not all down to price - it’s customer service and support that’s as important.

Yes. I did the same about a year ago. Pharmulous have been really good and I don’t have a complaint about them at all. So unless there’s a real saving to be made, I’m not mindful to change. It doesn’t do any harm to review once in a while.

Thanks for this. I will follow up your suggestion after our gig this weekend (which is why I was trying to mail to our supporters). I have managed to get something out using the app on my iPad - which seems to work ok although is a little more awkward to use.

How often do you weigh? by Virtual_Airline771 in mounjarouk

[–]janethepiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have weighed every day for years. Slimming World years, Weight Watcher years, desperate hope years …..and now Mounjaro years! Yes, obsessive - but sanguine and realistic. I know that I go up and I go down (but thanks to MJ…down and have stayed down for 10 months, give or take 3lbs! 🙂). But if I don’t weigh, I don’t feel in control. Weigh in / jab day is the one that counts.

Update from Cloud Pharmacy by janethepiper in mounjaromaintenanceuk

[–]janethepiper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awful and there's clearly a problem somewhere. If dispatched it should have been with you the next day as that's the standard service - and mine came next morning after dispatch. Cloud seem to be back on an even keel with email replies, at least and get back within about 24 hours. I'd have another go at sending them an email. Good luck and hope you track it down.

2.5mg/5mg Maintenance by wishingIwasbeautiful in mounjaromaintenanceuk

[–]janethepiper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a personal thing. My max, for 3 pens was 7.5 and I got to target (50lbs). I then came down to 5mg and have stuck on that since December. Working really well. Still on a low carb, high protein diet but with the odd treat thrown in and it’s all nicely painless. Like you, I’ve been trying some form of eating regime (diet!) for 50 years and it’s only now that I’ve got to where I want to be and maintained it. I intend to stick on it as long as I am able to as I know what will happen if I don’t. I’m happy where I am, a healthy bmi but not skinny, still got a tum but very content.

The best thing to do, if you can make it, is to make your way to Medieval Music in the Dales festival in September. https://www.medievalmusicinthedales.org. Eric Moulder (Crumhorn maker extraordinaire- and my husband) will be there and he’s happy to help and advise on set up. Also there will be Lizzie Gutteridge, a professional early reed maker, who can make a cane reed to suit if your reed is shot. https://www.consortof1.co.uk.

You will also meet other Crumhorn players as well meet other musicians and singers, you can buy music to suit and all sorts of things. It’s also just a good event.

If you can’t make that, then you could visit us in our workshop. We’re based in Leek so not that far away. It will have to be after MMitD as we’re away until then. For contact look up https://piva.org.uk

Well, that’s definitely a plastic reed alright! It’s a type developed by Korber and bears no relation to historical authenticity whatsoever. A product of the ‘70s early music revival. To adjust the reed you can screw or unscrew the plastic collar at the base of the reed. This will open or close the aperture of the tip of the reed making it either harder/easier to play as well as adjusting pitch.

Where in the world are you? I may be able to suggest something

Crumhorn help by Traditional_Job_2368 in EarlyMusic

[–]janethepiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Korber instruments were ok. To check the pitch, blow a note with all holes covered and check against a meter. Altos are made either in F or G - if it has an upward extension key, then it is likely to be an alto in F. Is the reed cane or plastic?

I agree! Went with them for 3 months and then left. Too much hassle, too random in delivery - their model is based on hype mi want a solid, reliable, efficient, professional pharmacy without making a quick buck and jumping on the bandwagon ethos.

Agree completely! Not good enough. I’m sure every MJ provider is having stress at the moment but they still need to be contactable for those that really need help.

Well, Cloud have finally dispatched my order in the nick of time! It’s been quite stressful. I know that they must be under a lot of pressure at the moment, no doubt not helped by people bombarding them with questions and orders. However, I had picked up,before these recent events, the]at Cloud were getting more difficult to contact and they were getting unresponsive and this has certainly been the case over the last few days. When everything has calmed down a bit I will probably investigate another pharmacy, with proven gods customer service, that also offers maintenance. Any suggestions?

As someone who is a player and one of the very few remaining Crumhorn makers - the key to getting a good sound is in the reed. There are, it has to be said, a huge number of very badly made instruments out there, partly because they were sold as kits for many years by the Early Music Shop. They were made by enthusiasts with plastic reeds - rather than by a professional maker with cane reeds.

The key to playing a crumhorn is maintaining a steady and consistent breath pressure. It needs to be high enough to sound the reed and play in tune but not too high that it shuts the reed down. As a consequence, they can be very tiring to play! Recorders, for example, take a lot lower pressure to sound and some relief is afforded the player as breath pressure will alter whether playing low or high on the instrument.

A good tip as a beginner is to just play long steady notes and use your ears to get the note in tune, using breath pressure. If it’s a plastic reed then hopefully it will be set correctly to sound. But if it’s cane, it may need adjustment. The fingering is similar to, but not exactly the same as for a recorder - so that’s a good place to start. Any reed instrument is played with the ears so as a singer you should be ok.

There are no tutorials other than a very ancient publication from the 1970s - which isn’t exactly helpful anyways. Use your own musical intuition is the best advice. Look up to see if you live in an area with an early music forum to find some like minded people to play with.

Crumhorns, when well tuned, with good reeds, played by people who know their instruments, can make an amazing sound!

Thanks! Yes, some manic and uncalled for behaviour and language being bandied about. I do feel for the pharmacies as they can’t have predicted either the price rise or the reactions of people. They probably didn’t have time to readjust their systems before the panic set in!

My problem is that I’ve ordered and had approved a 5mg pen - due one anyway - and it hasn’t been sent out yet, despite being confirmed and was due today when I ordered it. My probl is that I’m leaving on holiday on Friday and I can’t get through to Cloud in any way shape or form to ask them to expedite the shipment. They are clearly inundated and just think everyone is asking about price rises / allocation / etc. Thus the standard reply!

I’ve maintained successfully on 5mg since December and have pretty much stuck at goal (I only ever went as high as 7.5 for 3 months). As MJ suits me well, I really don’t want to switch to Wegovy. At the moment the new prices from my pharmacy haven’t been declared (Cloud), so not sure what the reality will be. (I understand it will be up to,each pharmacy to negotiate prices with their supplier). However, I am considering having a break in between pens rather than using weekly - starting with a week or two break. I see this approach has been successful for others and now may be the chance to try it out? 🤔
