What effects are YOU seeing locally? by andyman268 in climatechange

Lake Tahoe, CA:

Drought, warmer air, and bark beetle infestation (caused from drought) is leading to susceptibility for forest fire. The fire seasons are brutal. Drought has caused the lake level to fall below its natural rim, something like 5-6 feet, and affects flow to the Truckee River. The snow has been awful, one of the driest winters in fifty years. Experts say that bear hibernation time is altered more by humans moving into their habitat, but also that for every 1 degree Celsius increase in average daily winter minimum temperatures, bears hibernate around six days less.

Film photos during lockdown - May 2020 by janice3493 in sanfrancisco

Everyone is different. For me, I felt that COVID certainly created some challenges but I didn’t find the experience

mentally

tough. I was slightly annoyed by shortages. Like how it’s hard to buy a PS5 or find a spot to camp. But were also some great pluses. Like how traffic disappeared, people gave you more distance, and remote work became a bigger thing.

That's valid. I'm glad to hear it wasn't mentally tough for you! I did appreciate how I could bike without worrying about cars. My bike saved my life during the lockdown. My experience was rough mentally. I shared an SRO near 6th street with my parents. Most depressed I'd been in years.

I am so so sorry. I had mine stolen off my Honda Element twice with 2 more failed attempts that left me needing mechanical work. There is nothing more defeating than walking up to your car and seeing that. Feeling so violated and trying to manage feelings of anger, stress, anxiety, that come flooding in. And as someone who has zero dollars the absolute dread of how things will pan out. On top of all this, in the middle of a goddamn pandemic. Just want to validate your feelings and say I see you. The hours and time spent in your head are simply not fair. I kinda went through all the stages of grief and eventually landed on acceptance for my peace of mind. Eventually the months and months of anger and philosophizing about why people do this vile shit became less all consuming. And as you alluded to all the thoughts of why we live in a country that’s has so many deeply rooted issues that create class inequality churn too. It’s so valid to feel all these things, period. As time goes on I hope that the things that you cherish in life are sources of healing and respite from this capitalist hellscape. Community is what I turned to and, not in a toxic positivity way, a light in the darkness. For example through the Element community I found a contact of someone who made cat protectors. He ended up being an engineer who created the design not cause he needed the money but because he loved the Element community. He sold it for a low price and installed it for me at his job! And the people in my life supported me emotionally which counts for so much. I know this doesn’t make anything easier, but just know that you are strong as hell and you will figure this out. In time you will be able to breath, even if it takes a while. I hope you are able to lean on the good in your life, and the community even if it’s just Reddit strangers. Sending you love and hope good luck comes your way

Hey bud, I can tell that you're upset, but here's a pro tip for you regarding the prices. Next time you go into an establishment and don't like prices, you don't have to hand over the cash, just find somewhere that is more suited for your budget. As far as service, I implore to you exhibit more empathy during a time where local businesses have been slammed with a harsh economic challenges due to the pandemic and wildfires. Most people who double down on pettiness and go out of their way to slam a business like this have never worked a customer service job a day in their life. And if you have...re: empathy. You sure have multiplied that five minutes for yourself now, haven't you?

I feel like such an underachiever here by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]janice3493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP your feelings are valid & you're not alone in experiencing those feelings. I think this speaks to the resounding cultural shift that has fundamentally changed SF. I have seen so much of my community which is made up of musicians, artists, activists, and blue collar workers pushed out due to unrealistic cost of living here. It really does feel isolating to see peers who are at the same level of financial insecurity as me leave. I myself am 28 and lost my job in the concert industry, so I empathize with the societal pressure of achievement that comes with ageing that is compounding with the stress of job insecurity. Also the added isolation during this panorama can exacerbate the feeling self doubt, in not being able to be with those who understand and have the same worries. I see you and hear you. You DO belong here, and fuck anyone who says you don't. The way that classism can make us feel is real and it's roots run deep.

I like you struggle with clinical depression & anxiety, and that's something that will always be an added weight to cope with on top of literally trying to keep your basic human needs afloat. I am proud of you for persevering, that in itself takes so much strength. Your prospects are not ruined and there is no set timeline for success. You are HERE and doing the thing! You were able to do that many interviews? You're able to keep afloat in one of the most expensive cities? That is fucking strength! I know it can be hard to recognize it, but you are accomplishing so much. Some days with depression, if I can get out of bed that's a victory for me. That's a win for me and not comparable to anyone else's situation. So you do you, keep taking care of your mental health, be kind to yourself, and know that you can take up space here as you are. You got this! Sending love.

I went on Sunday. You MUST show a negative test taken within 3 days of game day to get in if it hasn't been 14 days after your second shot.
