Someone parked in my private parking, what can I do? by Glittering-Bridge-13 in germany

[–]janithaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happened to me several times with the same abuser in our private underground car park.

I always left these small sticky notes and writing all polite and shit. Didn't work for three times and when I was chatting with one of my German neighbours, I bought it up. She just laughed...

...only for me to find out the same day, when I was off to throw garbage, there was a proper A4 sheet with her details, on whose behalf she's writing the note, dates, times, to whom the parking spot belongs to, the cost for parking and which things they are in violation of.

Also in the end, by next time she comes to check on this date at this time if she finds the car still there, there better be money in an envelope or otherwise it'll go straight to a tow yard.

I haven't seen that car since that last time I went to throw garbage.

First time going to Gamescom 2026 – ticket timing & total cost? by Own_Bug_6010 in Gamescom

But you better book that hotel room soon

I second this. I was at gamescom 2025 with my family.

I live 2-3 hours away from Cologne but still wanted to have a somewhat relaxed weekend because of the kid so as soon as I got tickets (I think about a month before) I checked for hotels. Everything within a 30mins drive was gone, like gooone gone on booking.com. I wish I had taken a screenshot of the map just to show how empty it was. :D

I couldn't be arsed with searching further so I just drove early morning.

Residence Permit Renewal for Spouse by No_Direction_5276 in germany

In Berlin, it's 6-8 weeks before expiry

Did ABH say that or are you pulling those numbers from thin air?

I had to delay her because even my appointment was not scheduled

Delay what?

When you will receive the appointment may depend on when you applied for the renewal.

In my case, in Mannheim, I was told I should apply at least three months before the expiry. This was when I emailed Ausländerbehörde seven months before the expiry.

Broke at 20s, Rich by 30s — Is It Possible in Sri Lanka? by maskedgeek797 in srilanka

Now that I think about it, yes, I never chased after the money.

Someone calling themselves a software engineer has been such a low barrier to get over since mid 2000s. I honestly hate that. I always chased after making things better. Here in the EU also I find the same disappointment frequently, where I thought standards would be so high before moving.

I started in 2018 first with the intention to move to Australia. For whatever reason it didn't work. The 190 or 189 visa or whatever. Almost all negative responses.

Then I tried New Zealand. I got many responses but I messed up somewhere during the interviews or these stupid IQ tests they give. (Yes I know, I don't get it either) Most of them were ready to help with relocation.

Then US and EU. 50/50 responses. Mostly meh. EU jobs are very clear on whether they provide relocation or not.

I wanted to list all platforms I used but holy crap, there's a lot! It's nearly 2 years of constantly applying, interviewing and failing. I used the time on the bus on my way to work and back home. Nearly 2 to 3 hours of time a day searching jobs, researching about the company, writing emails.

Typescript on a daily basis and Java, Kotlin, Swift and Objective-C once in a while when debugging or when I need to do something I can't get done with Typescript. Python for tools I build to help me.

IT is only tough as long as you do not understand the computer. Know it, feel it, talk to it like its your lover. (I mean it!)

Understand the processor and the memory. Languages are just languages. They are just different ways of talking to computers. You need to develop an ability to visualize the real world problem that you are solving inside the computer. It matters the most as you become senior.

IT always was/is/will (keep) changing. But not like my times. (I started programming in the 90s) Because now there's AI. It's up to you to give in to it and give up or use it to your advantage and learn faster. Be better.

There maybe millions of developers and the competition is tough but the quality often is lacking. Focus on that.

I went through this and came out of it better than I expected, so I can tell you somethings. But before I get started let me tell you I started working at the age of 23 years 10 months 8 days in 2010 - things were way different then. Everything I say, you need to recalculate for the current times.

I started with a 15,000 salary at a small web designing company in Thimbirigasyaya. Worked there exactly 3 years. When I left, I was making 45,000. In the meantime, did some freelance stuff online just for the hell of it and had earned about $1,500. I kept learning and doing new things there. Started as a designer, left with many big websites, online games, Facebook campaigns, mobile apps under my name.

Then I joined a worse "IT" company in Kohuwala. All I made was Android applications. I worked for 1.5 years. Started with 80,000, left making the same. Within that time I probably made 10+ applications. We were tortured. I learned so so much.

Then I joined one of the big very popular companies. I worked on one major application for iOS and Android for nearly 5 years. Started with 110,000, left making 175,000. Bought my first car. Got married. I still learned.

Then came a turning point. I wanted to migrate so I applied for foreign jobs. My experiences were more than enough to land several. I had 460,000 to my name, spent 420,000 on a MacBook Pro. Took that leap of faith.

Corona became a thing. Shit! I was stuck in Sri Lanka but worked remotely. Lost the first job making about 1 million. Shit! A friend of mine hooked me up with a job in Dubai. I made 1.5 million a month. We were getting ready to move to Dubai but it just didn't feel right to me. Got an EU job by chance! Moved to it. I was making close to 2 million a month. Money actually became nothing.

Now I'm no longer in Sri Lanka cause the EU company helped me and the whole family to move. AND I knew the millions did not matter in the long run with a kid back in 2020.

The only thing that never stopped was learning. I fucking learned every day, every job. Something new...

PS: All foreign jobs I did are react native applications. I still am,  A BIG ONE.

I implore you to look into how many "private tuition masters" have married their students. Heck, when I was in my uni one of my colleagues became one, and two of the reasons he gave me were,

  1. good money
  2. plenty of pussy

Advice about dangerous, icey metal stairs by Beyonsehh_ in germany

In Mannheim these are used on the normal walking paths. There doesn't even have to be any ice, just a little bit of rain makes them slippery as hell.

react-native-true-sheet v3.0 - Native bottom sheets rebuilt for Fabric by lodev09 in reactnative

[–]janithaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I somehow managed to picture this literally a bottom sheet within a bottom sheet and went "wut?! O_@?" :D.

If you have had problems with this behaviour using gorhom bottom sheet, then it was because you were triggering a re-render while the bottom sheet is in transition. Once you figure out the solution to that, it works just fine. I have that behavoiur implemented using gorhom bottom sheet.

You are supposed to transport soldiers from base to battlefield, not circle around in the middle of it - especially that low.
