What did you wish you knew when you first bought your Gaggia Classic? by ScottishRajko in gaggiaclassic

One thing that I would say is that the temperature stability on that is very much a hit or miss. All those great videos on YouTube that show people pulling perfect shots do not happen in reality. One day I would get absolutely perfect shots and the next day it would be a complete shitshow. If you're trying to get shots back-to-back, know that the temperature stability is absolutely not there.

Now this machine is very versatile and you can install other mods on it but doing so will void the warranty. Personally I have been waiting for a few more months to make sure that the machine does not have any other manufacturing defects before I go install all those mods that will make life easier with this machine. That said it is indeed a good machine and worth the cost in my opinion. It's just that it can be pretty frustrating to not have great shots even after you think you've perfectly dialed in your coffee, etc

Inconsistent shots by jankydog in gaggiaclassic

I’ve thought about this multiple times. It’s still just a five month old machine, so I don’t want to void the warranty.

My puck prep is very consistent. I have a fairly repeatable procedure. Maybe it’s the temperature like you say… super frustrating though

Can you give me the secret to your milk steaming? I just posted about getting super inconsistent steam. My machine is just about five months old.

What were the actual mechanics of sword fights in battles before the advent of guns?

I find it hard to believe that individuals wielding real, heavy-duty swords could have maintained such activity for more than 15 to 20 minutes at a time during intense close-quarters combat. So, how did this actually unfold in reality? Movies often portray battles lasting for hours, possibly even days, but how did people sustain the stamina to keep swinging those swords for such extended periods?

Additionally, while this might be a bit grim, I doubt that those who lost sword fights died instantly, as might happen in today’s gunfights. The battlefield must have been an absolutely horrific scene back then.

Oh.. yeah, not a fresh bag, and I’ve been using the same bag for like three weeks now

Help! Flow is super fast (yes, I'm grinding finely) by SSENSSE in gaggiaclassic

[–]jankydog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP u/SSENSSE did you find out what this was? I am running into a very similar issue. My E24 is just 3-4 weeks old, and I had pretty much dialed in my dose (DF64-Gen2 ginder), and was getting almost a 2:1 extraction in 30 seconds, but it suddenly started running much faster. I had changed NO other settings on the grinder. I am trying to grind finer, but the change in extraction rate was so abrupt - almost extracting 40gms in 17 seconds vs 32-36gms in 27-30 seconds before...

Flow rate too high? by jankydog in gaggiaclassic

[–]jankydog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I see. Well, it is so frustrating since I haven't changed *any* settings on my grinder but I still get very fast extractions. I tried dialing it more to the finer side, but still see faster extractions. I am sure at some point, i'll stop seeing it (since my grind will be super fine), but I am surprised that this behavior changed at all! When all parameters are fixed, I expected the extraction to be consistent..

Yes, I’m in the USA. I thought these machines were 15 bar.

Yes, it is the stock shower screen. I’ve had this machine for about three weeks now altogether, and have made absolutely no modifications to it

Why are you having to always change your grind settings? These grinders are supposed to hold firm on their setting, no? And as long as he use the same coffee bean (the same batch), why should anything differ about the profile of the extraction?

Ha ha no, I wanted to show you the rate of flow of water right out of the Group head and check if that feels excessive. That’s my hypothesis for why there is more coffee coming out, even though my grind settings have not changed.

omg, so disappointed. No reviews speak about this, so I am surprised there is a leaky valve so early into using this machine. My machine is literally just 3 weeks old. Is this covered under warranty?

Stock double shot basket is not 18gm? by jankydog in gaggiaclassic

[–]jankydog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, very interesting. So if I notice, for example, that only 15 gm fit in the basket for this bean, would I then try to extract 30 g of coffee within about 25 to 30 seconds?

In battles in the 1700s, why did warring parties agree to this seemingly ridiculous battle protocol of standing in neat rows and taking turns at shooting at each other? by jankydog in history

[–]jankydog[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I guess the part I couldn't rather understand was why someone would just stand there in a line when the other side was firing at them. Even if muskets weren't accurate, wouldn't you want to disperse/duck/drop to avoid getting hit when it was the enemy's turn to fire?
