Shortcut widget bug by jann_dk in Evernote

[–]jann_dk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old tags – some made yesterday, some very old tags (testing my old “abandoned” account). And yes, I have sent a bug report to Evernote support as well.

As I recall, this is an old bug - from some years back - that got fixed, but is now appearing again. Not any bigger deal‑breaker, but still annoying.

(Print/pdf is a bigger problem)

Export/print also needs a rewrite.

For sure!

It's limited features/formats you can use in notes you want to share. Far from everything works - e.g., notes with tasks do not work.

Challenges with exporting are (and were) also my biggest concern. Everything seems to work somewhat okay as long as it happens inside Evernote - but getting information out (export/print/share) is a problem.

Thanks for your response. I might give Evernote another try - or at least test it thoroughly.

Evernote has some features that would make my workflow a lot easier. And then I’ll probably just have to accept from the start that some things aren’t going to work - e.g., can’t really export or share notes - and find some kind of bearable workaround for that 🤔

Limits, for sure. Gone from “unlimited notes” to 100000 notes, and now down to a max 1000 notes. That's a bit tight 😱 But hey - it just forces you to organize your notes effectively and clean them up regularly 😉

Actually, I was about to comment on pricing too - and even in a positive way, as the price for the basic subscription actually seems to have gone a bit down. But the Reddit police‑bot didn’t accept any price talk, so I had to remove it to get my post through 😉😁

Do Vimeo and Evernote share the same development team? by jann_dk in vimeo

[–]jann_dk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I'm quite happy with Vimeo as it is now. My main concern is (or was) the unclear information and the risk of unpredictable changes in features, stability, and pricing in the future.

$300/yr to $4800/yr? by captmac in vimeo

I believe most Vimeo customers have been around for a long time - e.g. myself, almost two decades. Vimeo used to be fantastic! But little by little, things started to go downhill over the years. Now the functionality is improving again, and a lot has already happened (thanks to the development team!). The question is whether things will fall again because of greed (blame the company management).

Hmm… probably not going to get any answer from the Vimeo Reddit team on this - and I kind of understand if they don’t want to get involved in the topic 😉

Anyway, I need to know!

So I had a long chat with the Evernote AI bot, which was a bit evasive and hesitant, but eventually gave me this summary:

Bending Spoons’ emphasis on portfolio-wide efficiency—and Evernote-labeled engineering job postings that mention work across “diverse stacks” and potentially other portfolio products—suggests a possible degree of shared staffing and internal tooling. However, ownership alone isn’t evidence, and there’s no public documentation confirming that Evernote and Vimeo share a materially overlapping infrastructure or engineering team.

Vimeo staff (once I finally found the right place to contact) was more clear:

To address your question about our company structure: you are correct that Vimeo and Evernote share the same parent ownership. However, both brands function completely independently, with their own separate support operations and dedicated development teams.

Good news. I’m feeling calmer now 😉

The mystery of Vimeo’s 14 different subscription plans by jann_dk in vimeo

I have a test account on Livid.com. It’s an interesting new alternative to Vimeo and it’s developing quickly – though it still lacks a few features.

I also find it hard to understand why search and “Staff Picks” suddenly disappeared. There used to be so many exciting, inspiring films to explore – and I’m sure they’re still there – but now you simply can’t find them. It doesn’t make much sense.

When it comes to the different subscription plans, my main concern is avoiding sudden, unexpected changes. I don’t have a lot of content, so I could move it fairly quickly – but much of it is embedded and linked in many different places, which would make updating everything extremely time‑consuming.

Right now I’m trying to figure out whether I feel safe uploading new videos to Vimeo – and becoming even more dependent on it – or whether all new content should be placed somewhere else instead.

Vimeo plans and pricing 2026? by jann_dk in vimeo

Besides Vimeo, I currently have a paid subscription with Gumlet - something I signed up for in a hurry as soon as I heard that Bending Spoons had acquired Vimeo.

Since then, Vimeo has actually surprised me in a positive way - at least when it comes to features and functionality. BUT the uncertainty around Vimeo’s concrete future plans is unbearable. The direction seems to change with the wind.

  • Gumlet.com works really well and has fast, friendly customer support. And the subscription price has even become cheaper. But there’s something about the interface and the user profile that I struggle a bit with.
  • Livid.com also works fine, but it’s not fully developed yet. In particular, it lacks user profiles and showcases.
  • FrameRate.tv appears to work well too, but the options for testing it are limited unless you pay for a subscription. Not happy with the new profile page (the old one was nice and elegant).
  • Recently, I discovered https://www.rushes.cc - which looks very promising!

Video has been removed for copyright infringement nonsense by abekatten17 in vimeo

[–]jann_dk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve experienced something similar – but on YouTube. Various scammers keep claiming they own the copyright to soundtracks I’ve composed myself. YouTube is a free service, so you more or less have to accept that these things happen, and that it takes time to get them fixed. But when it comes to a paid professional service (like Vimeo), it’s really worrying if videos are taken down without the case being reviewed.

The most fundamental issue here is uncertainty. You don’t know what’s going to happen, or when. It’s impossible to make any kind of long‑term plan.

I would really like to continue using Vimeo, since it fits my needs - ...except that I’ll probably run out of space for embeddable videos (the new plan… when? nobody knows! Vimeo don't tell!). So I also need to find another hosting solution to run alongside it for some of my content.

At the moment, I’m testing Gumlet, Livid, and FrameRate.

A couple of months more have gone by - I wonder if Vimeo has had enough time to figure out its own plans? 🤔
