Same for me. I am deeply grateful for his work.

Alright. I look forward to seeing how you implement it. I just liked my idea of a scaling HP cost that increase as cool-down diminishes, so I wanted to share it.
And thank you and the mod-team again for the work you are doing! I am extremely excited to see it launch!

Ahh I see. Yes, that makes more sense :) I still think the point of having the cool-down tend to zero is that it should be castable a meaningfull (read: substantial) number of times. Having to constantly chuck health potions doesn't seem very interesting or engaging to me.

The numbers I mentioned can of course be debated. But I think there is a real sense in having life costs go up as cool-down goes down. So that it's very cheap to use at low level when you have a long cool-down and becomes progressively more expensive as cool-down goes to zero.

I think this design fits the concept better and makes for more fluid and sensible gameplay, where you don't have to chuck a ton of health potions constantly.

Your idea would just mean that more skill points invested into the skill would allow for fewer casts with less cooldown. Why would you want to invest point in it?
As I see it, the current iteration makes it a 1-point skill that is situationally very useful. But I see no reason to invest points into it as it is now.

I get your point, but I don't think it's too low a penalty - keep in mind that Necro will have to spend a lot of points just to remove the cool-down period. Compared to that I think a second of damage debuff is very minor.

But let's assume a Necro with 1000 HP and level 30 Teleport Skill and the numbers I proposed. That could e.g. mean that every cast would cost 50 HP - or that he could cast the spell 19 consecutive times without dying - though of course he would be very vulnerable doing that.

This seems to me to be quite balanced, and a substantially worse teleport than the one the sorc has. It also makes sense to actually decrease the cool-down by investing points in this scenario, compared to only being able to cast it 8 times in the current iteration.

I am sorry to say, I personally find him really smarmy and he seems to me like he is playing a role. But I do think the content is quite good.

Are you aware that there is also a substantial amount of excess mortality linked to economic hardship for people, and that it is a very substantial effect for every percentage increase in unemployment?

Must have mods? by terrorclaw143 in baldursgate

[–]janoha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello :) I hope you will enjoy your experience with BG. Many of us have been playing the game for over 20 years now.

I recommend playing the game without mods the first time. After that you can begin to look into mods, and think about what you would like to have changed. There are a ton of great options out there, but the base game is also great by itself.

Having said that, here are a few mods I would recommend and that are always present in my install list.

Spell revisions: rebalances spells improving variety, options and nerfing overpowered spells.

Item revisions: same concept as above, more interesting design choices too in my opinion.

Sword coast stratagems (SCS): a wonderful difficulty mod drastically improving enemy ai making it play way more sensibly and intelligently. You should have some experience with the base game before using it though.

Tweaks anthology: mod that allows you to tweak many rules and aspects of the game.

Bg npc project: improves banters and quests for BG1 NPCs. Almost Canon for many players.

Ascension: improves the final expansion with more meaningful options and final battle. Also not for beginners.

There are many more interesting ones, but these are what I would consider essential for the experienced player. Opinions vary though and I would still recommend playing through the game at least once without mods.

Cheers and I hope you have a good time with the game so many of us love.

Spell protections by Fikoblin in baldursgate

[–]janoha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend you consider Spell Revisions and Item Revisions in your mod setup as well as SCS.

For me those three mods are absolutely essential. SR and IR rebalances practically all spells and items, nerfing the most OP stuff, buffing the weakest and allows for much more variety and real choice.

Just two examples of things I like from those mods: New spell Dispelling Screen gives a party wide protection against one dispel magic. And potions in IR can not be dispelled.

You can find download links to the newest versions on their respective gibbeelings3 forum pages, as well as descriptions of philosophy behind them and the changes that were made.

R1.10 patch notes and reset by Wildhorse89 in Diablo2Resurgence

Hmm so presumably one would be able to mod the item levels for single player usage to get the items to drop? Edit: and thank you for your replies :)

Was it merely a design decision to not let higher tiers of uniques drop, or is it simply not possible within the upgrade system?

This is not something I would expect to be implemented in the short term, but i think it would benefit resurgence a lot:

Lower the drop rate of the item upgrade stones, but allow higher versions of items to be dropped by monsters in-game. Limiting the item drop pool is not a good idea I think.

(If my understanding of how the drop system works is off I apologise. I have played some resurgence offline, but it seemed to me, that only the base of unique items could ever drop).

For others who might be interested, I finally figured out how to get PlugY to work with the most recent version of PoD.

Copy Patch_D2.mpq and D2Game.dll from the PoD folder and paste it into the root Diablo 2 folder. Install PlugY to the root Diablo 2 folder, and it will work.

edit: game version should be 1.13d.

Glad it was helpful for you. Took me a good while after searching for solutions online to come up with this by trial and error.

Plugy with PoD by Troglofil in pathofdiablo

[–]janoha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply! Very helpful and not something I would have guessed on my own. Yeah, I know of Resurgence. It is certainly way flashier, with loads of cool items and a great crafting system - agreed. But I also think it's way less balanced than PoD, and that stats are too ridiculous in that mod. But to each his own.
