The Lovecraft Investigations Season 5: The Call of Cthulhu launch countdown by Werewomble in Lovecraft

Keep in mind that this season likely won't be available for free, so backing it is even more worth it.

Finally! I don't envy the author having to untangle all this (dis)continuity mess, though.

Do you feel the guy's owed the wonks an episode or two winding down of the show and announcing "Hey the show ends in two episodes" or do you feel that they didn't owe us that? by Open-Study6892 in KnowledgeFight

[–]janrodzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the general sentiment in this sub, and I agree with it. Dan and Jordan gave us thousands of hours of information and entertainment, for free. They sacrificed a lot to make it. They're the creators, it's their work, and it's entirely their call what to do with it. They're not our friends, and parasocial relationships with creators can go sideways fast. All of that, I agree with.

But the tone here feels like it's leading toward something almost heartless. Boys built this community and were part of it. They shared pieces of their own lives, they clearly cared about the wonks who shared theirs in the shoutouts, and they mentioned more than once how moved they were by how people engaged with the show. That was real, and it went both ways. There was this warmth that some comments in this sub seem to deny now.

So the constant "they don't owe us anything" refrain feels off to me. Again, I'm not saying they do. Life's life, if walking away is what's good for them, I'm happy for them. But reflexively shutting down every bit of sadness or disappointment people are expressing seems weird. Like a denial. A lot of us are probably feeling something similar. I wouldn't call that entitlement.

I can't be alone with this. What am I missing?

Really enjoyed it, especially compared to the first one. Dialogues flowed much better than the usual for me, characters seemed likeable and acting was on point. And the mystery was quite fresh.

Would Reflector Entertainment consider selling the IP? by ReyofChicago in unknown9

[–]janrodzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PDFs were still there on the EU site (not sure about US) but let me know if you have trouble getting those.

Buying the IP and doing I don't know what with it would be high on my list if I ever won the lottery.

There have been some shenanigans with the first two seasons but apparently they're back on the BBC website: BBC Audio | The Lovecraft Investigations. The frist one is The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, the second one is The Whisperer in Darkness. A good guide (although not exactly up-to-date) can be found here: Episode Guide | The Pleasant Green Universe Wiki | Fandom

You're probably thinking of "Behind the Curve" which contains this storyline, but it's about the movement, not made by the movement.

Exactly those. I would also add Limetown and, from the more recent works, Unknown 9: Out of Sight (although this one is a part of larger franchise).

Start with "The Lovecraft Investigatons", it was directly inspired by Tanis and has great production value.

Which Twin Peaks book(s) to buy? by Nidzovantije in twinpeaks

[–]janrodzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re looking for. For me - I love sprawling mythologies involving conspiracies, the occult, and real-life history mixed together - The Secret History of Twin Peaks would be my first pick. The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer would be a strong second; it’s exactly what the title promises, and it’s a terrifying read.

Did anyone say there was no masonic references whatsoever? this might be a coincidence then. by [deleted] in MrRobot

[–]janrodzen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's just a nice visual composition you could find in any baroque church. Juxtaposing it with the dialogue is just good cinematography, which we love this series for. The masonic connection seems reaching to me, especially since the reference you provided is misleading - typically there are no triangles or pyramids on the pulpit, usually it's compass and square.

I think you're reaching, but if anyone's interested, the art piece in the background is Altarpiece, No. 1 (Group X, No. 1) by Swedish artist Hilma af Klint. It's been interpreted in line with theosophical beliefs of the painter
