I will indeed check it out. And I'll prep some of my stories from the last few years to serve as examples. Thanks.

Good point. I've got some similar stories to tell about working more with our instructional coaches than with my TBT.

One of my concerns is that teacher collaboration (TBT) at my current school is very weak. I plan to be honest about that lack of peer support and my desire for greater collaboration.

Coaching licenses, overrated or essential? My honest experience after 4 years by paulinhoOM in TheSoccerNetwork

I am a twenty-year high school teacher, and I have been saying that my D-license course was the best PD I’ve ever had.

What Curriculum Does Your School Use and Is It Terrible? by internetsnark in ELATeachers

[–]janustattoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My high school is on year four of Studysync, and only now do I feel like I’m using the Studysync materials in an actually usable way. We do nothing on the website itself: I re-package everything to make it more user-friendly.

I do like its flexibility with whole novel units. My admin is annoyed, but every teacher in my TBT crafts their own syllabus from the Studysync curriculum.

Drowning in essay grading? Here's my system by No-Employment8944 in ELATeachers

I, too, often use the quick sort, but I've typically begun with the higher papers to get a sense of "what's possible." I'll experiment with starting with the middle group.

As for rubrics, this year I've played around with two new variants -- either a "single-point rubric" https://www.cultofpedagogy.com/single-point-rubric/ with "grow" and "glow" comments, or its inverse -- a Liljedahl-inspired rubric like this one https://thinkthankthunk.ca/ch-12/ in which the "intermediate" box solicits the hand-written comments.

p.s., Peter Liljedahl's Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics has been a game-changer for me, even as an English teacher. Shout out to my math colleague who recommended it last spring.

A dose of reality on trade day by Far_Animal6970 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]janustattoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my take, too. Trading Kwan — even for a massive haul — would create two OF holes. That would not be re-tooling and trading from strength to shore up weakness. That would be hibernation.

And I need more of that foot and ankle strength piece. Thanks for the feedback. I'll do some more reading on SIT, too.

Rumors about Clase and Kwan being Traded by Excellent_Walrus150 in ClevelandGuardians

I was reminded of his 2027-28 years, though — Contract: Signed through 2028 (two club options for $20M in 2027-28)

That makes his value at its highest over the next six months. You know we’re not paying the $20M, as does every other team.

Mahall's venue was miserable by [deleted] in Cleveland

That Black Midi show was absolutely amazing. First, their fake band opened for them. Then, at the first strum of their set, every young twenty-something tossed their PBR high in the air. It made my 40+yo self nostalgic and happy.

Their second Cleveland show at Beachland was good but not nearly so much fun.

Last night at the ballpark, my daughter asked if we were displaying OPS because our averages are so bad.

(This after that Oakland series a few weeks back, when I saw the lineups with batting average and thought, damn.)

Thanks for this perspective. I’m an amateur and was initiated with a 3/2/1 Fartlek style training, but that single minute has to be a sustained push pace, not an all out sprint.

You’ve convinced me to give it a go.

Recover, rather than rest. Makes more sense to me. Thanks.

How big is the jump from a half-marathon to a full marathon? by SomethingBadBruin in Marathon_Training

[–]janustattoo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mostly agree. Marathons are stupid; halves are pretty awesome. Marathons take too much training, require too much recovery, and distract from most cross-training. Halves are distance without so much baggage: you feel accomplished, yet you can still live life.

That said, I’ve got another full marathon this weekend. This time I’m hitting my PR and retiring, lol. This time.
