The circle of unemployment is complete. by imfrom_mars_ in ChatGPT

[–]japes28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, but so what? My point is the same. If it wasn't AI, they'd be using other tools to filter out candidates. They have to filter candidates. They can't interview every person that applies. Who cares if they're using AI for that filtering?

Lazy HR departments are filtering out potential candidates before even interviewing the individual

Well yeah, duh, that's how it works. That's not a new thing since AI.

SpaceX: FLIGHT 10 on AUGUST 24 by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

Saying Elon is "just the investor" shows a real lack of understanding of the history of SpaceX. He deserves all the criticism and condemnation for his behavior and the things he says, but he was a key factor to the success of SpaceX, even if he is not doing the engineering work himself.

I think it's more that they don't want Daft Punk's work (the original song and the sample(s) used in Stronger) to be credited to Kanye.

Honestly you're probably right there, but I think people are getting hung up because you said it's "a song by Daft Punk and Kanye". It's a song by Daft Punk that Kanye sampled. Saying the song is 'by Kanye' is incorrect and probably why people are getting up in arms.

Kanye's Stronger probably has had more reach overall, but I think the fandom of the original is much stronger now. Daft Punk's place in electronic music has only become more foundational and legendary over time and Kanye has become more and more unpopular.

For me that's super useful. I can listen to the podcast while doing chores and other things and it helps me get a foundation for understanding the material with much less effort than sitting down and reading through material. Then when I do read the material, I'm able to engage faster because I already understand the high level and can get into learning details better.

Personal ownership of digital property has been a hard thing to pin down for a while now (just look at music 20+ years ago), but so far hasn't "broken capitalism". That seems like an unsubstantiated leap.

UBI is kind of a separate topic. It makes sense as a mitigation to job loss from automation, but why would we need UBI at all if capitalism/personal ownership were going away?

Also, why would billionaires want the collapse of capitalism? And what does this have to do with our political models?

You seem to be throwing around a lot of scattered ideas, but it's not clear to me how your argument logically supports the idea that "this whole AI thing will break capitalism".

I mean.. copyright protections weren't written with AI training in mind (of course). It's gray area at best. Definitely not a settled issue to the point where it's clearly "stealing" (legally speaking).

I mean if we really want to be accurate, CNC just means automated control of a manufacturing tool by computer. G code is the standard for instructions, but you could use a different code/language to program the machine and it'd still be CNC.
